Mwiba'makachu was still a young lion, though his mind was hardly malleable by this point. He knew his place and his station in life and it showed in the way he carried himself. There was a certain air of pride around the young Toka. He was, after all, from Caddoc and he was a proud and noble creature.

The soldier slipped from the den that he and his compatriots shared, at the base of the mountain, and parted his maw in a massive yawn. His break had been a deliciously peaceful one and his joints popped and stretched as he prepared to embark on what would be a typical afternoon's patrol. He hadn't seen much action as of late, not that he had been alive long enough to say he had seen much, but things felt quiet, almost placid, over the past few days and part of him was hoping some trouble would rear up, if only so he could quell the situation and show off his prowess as a soldier in doing so.

Of course, he couldn't scorn the silence too much. The pride was doing well and it was safe, which was all he truly wanted. It was his job to protect and serve.

The tan and crimson lion, finally after having stretched and prepared his body for the rest of the day, left the den's mouth and moved along the well worn paths, his spirits high and his young, strong limbs eager with energy.

"Are you going to be grumpy this entire trip, my dearest?" Ygraine asked, vexation creeping into her loving tone. She looked at her mate evenly, and he glanced at her from the corner of his eye, not turning his head to her.

He knew if he did, he would smile, and he was trying to maintain a very severe expression.

"Perhaps," he replied.

They had come down from the castle mountain to spend time amongst the people, and so far it had been pretty relaxing and interesting. Even uther was having fun, for all his attitude, but he was determined not to show it. mostly because he knew it bothered Ygraine when he acted this way, and he liked seeing her so vexed.

She nuzzled him, to his surprise, and he knew she wasn't really mad at him. Just like he wasn't really mad at anything at all. They were near Caddoc now, and they spotted someone coming up the beaten path they were traveling on. Ygraine smiled, as she always did, and took the lead in greeting him.

Mostly because Uther wouldn't have at all, if left to himself.

"Hello there, young sir!" The Queen called sweetly. "Are you from Caddoc?"

Schedule rarely changed and he was a lion who preferred order and routine. The young soldier knew the stops he would make, the routes he would take, and it almost never varied, unless orders were given to him from those he answered to. Rigid might not be the right word, he was not quite as solid in his ways as the cobblestone-like patterns that marked his pelt, but he was a solid and reliable lion. He tried to do what would be right for all of the pride.

It was during his usual walk along the well beaten path that his paws knew so well that the usual normalcy of his day changed quite drastically for him. He had never personally met the King and Queen who which he had pledged his life for, but he was familiar with their scents and knew of them well enough through schooling and training in his younger seasons. He hadn't thought he'd have the good graces to bump into them on a simple afternoon patrol, however. At being addressed, he stood at attention.

"Yes ma'am, Mwiba'makachu of Caddoc." There was a nervous giddiness in the youngster's heart, but he did his best to appear composed, as he had trained to do from his cubhood.

Ygraine smiled at the young lion, charmed already by his youthful look. She recognized the earnest in his eyes that Uther had when they first met. A dutiful servant of the king, aspiring to serve and perhaps to further his own career.

"Mwiba," she said with a nod and a chuckle. Uther stood beside her, tall and proud. She was eager to meet everyone and treat them as equals, but Uther never forgot his place, and made sure no one else did, either. He was King, and would be treated as such.

He watched the soldier, looking him over with a different kind of eye. He wasn't looking at the lion's personality or potential: he was looking at his stock. How good was this soldier? How strong was he? How determined? Uther needed lions who would defend the Kingdom well.

"Are you out on patrol, Mwiba?" Ygraine asked, as Uther remained silent and stubborn as always.
