The war against humans and elves has risen. Humans have been cutting down the wood-elves' forests and all the elvish races have vowed to protect their tree dwelling cousins except for one. The Drow have always resented all their elven kin for driving them underground so many ages ago. This war has given rise to mercenaries looking for easy money, assassins collecting heads for both sides and road bandits that prey on what little trade there is now. Their are also simple travelers in this time that care little for the war and it's sides that just want to make a living.
You are one of these things. You have stopped at a neutral city by the name of Solitude. It is a Dwarven town so as you can guess already it was built into a mountain. It is the last Dwaven city on this side of the world and has not taken a side in this war for fear of being destroyed. It also connects to the Drow underdark, where the dark ones dwell and prosper. Welcome to The new age.
Races
Drow have lived in their underworld home for ages and because of this they are blind or nearly blind in sunlight, and see in the dark perfectly. They are naturally stealthy and graceful with some unique magical abilities.
Humans are a young but proud race that has fought with itself for longer then anyone can remember. They have been at odds with the elves for a long time but never provoked them until now. Humans can take a heavy pounding and are very strong. They have some very minor magic abilities.
The wood elves have the sharpest eyesight of all the other races. This makes them deadly shots. Because they have lived in their forests for so long they can communicate with animals as if they were people. They are very gifted with healing magics as well.
High elves the greatest scholars and magic users of the world. They are the soul of the magical world. They hunt down magic users that have broken the law so they can be tried in a court for mages and the like.
Dwarves are the most gifted smiths in the world. Most of the Dwarves where killed of by a race of human-like mushroom people that breath out poison spores. Because of this Dwarves are resistant to poisons of all kinds. They are the strongest of all the races and can go into a rage that will make them nearly unkillable.
