Hakuna yelped when he got a bite at her throat. It wasn't firm, not yet, but it was enough to cause pain, and to cause an emotion in Hakuna that hadn't come to the fore in a very long time: fear for herself. She'd feared for the lives of others, but for the first time since cubhood, she feared for her OWN life. She tried to twist, to lash out at the leopard further, to get FREE. She had to get free. She didn't want to die. She couldn't die. Not only did she fear for herself...she feared for her grandcub still unconscious nearby. If she died...what would stop the leopard from going after him?
Runya had never seen her little niece so...distraught. The normally unempathetic lioness laid down, curling around the smaller form of Sio. "Ringwe and your Papa will make sure everything's okay. They're big 'n' strong. Trained by your Grandma, too. They'll make sure everything's okay." She hoped. Dear Sparda and Morifaer, she hoped. ********, she was willing to pray to NON-DEMON GODS if it would keep her mother and nephew safe! For all Runya's faults...her loyalty to her blood was strong.
Tavar heard his mentor's sounds of pain and panic. He'd NEVER heard her panic before, but he knew her voice. She'd only drilled him more nights than he could care to count. As Ringwe pushed himself, so did Tavar, the Iar-blooded lion feeling tendrils of fear creeping into his heart. Something was very, very wrong.

Everything was quiet. She heard nothing, saw only blurred shapes. Was this the end? Hakuna felt in her gut that it was. And though she'd been the Nameless Death for so long, she...felt fear. She didn't want to die. To die would be to leave behind her pride, her family...Te and Verge. She wasn't ready for death!
Runya saw the leopard throw her mother, and saw Ringwe knocked over by her body. No...Sparda and Morifaer, NO. Her blood boiled, and something clicked in her. She wasn't Ilfirin'runya for the moment...no. The rage inside her made her demon bubble forth, and for the moment, she was Occasus. And Occasus charged the leopard, leaping over her toppled brother and her mother's body.
Tavar dodged to one side when his mentor's body was thrown at them, and was about to charge the leopard when he heard Sio, and small sounds that spoke that her brother nearby was waking. Then Runya charged past him, and he gave Ringwe a look that told him to go take care of the two cubs. He and Runya would take care of the leopard. And then he darted forward to join Runya in the attack on the rogue.

There was her grandmother, limp body laying on the ground, still as the grave, not even making a sound. Tears flowed from mismatched eyes, the young cub, usually so emotionless and calm, and she immediately (almost without thinking) moved to stand by her still unconscious brother. She had to protect him. The only thing left in the little cub's mind was that protection was her job. She had to be older, had to be mature, and most of all, had to make sure that her little brother was safe from harm. Her claws dug into the ground as she stood over his prone body, and rooted herself solidly there. Siochana would not allow that leopard anywhere near her beloved family....she couldn't allow herself to lose another family member. Now her grandmother was....Gone.
It hit the small cub like a two ton boulder. Her grandmother was dead....gone....she wasn't getting up, or coming back any more...and something within the youngling snapped. Her eyes deadened, and her face fell into a blank mask. Sio felt different inside. Very....cold. Almost as though nothing was really there any more, and she didn't even care if she was bowled over....It was her fault.....her grandmother was gone...and it was all her fault.
