ENCOUNTERS

'Encounter' fights are small-scale confrontations that can be set up by anyone. These aren't fights over specific locations like oases, but run-ins between individuals or small groups. They are the most common type of fight, occurring either when patrols meet, or an individual or small group intentionally crosses into enemy territory to pick a fight.

The maximum number of lions that can be involved in an encounter is 3 per faction (for a total of 6).

1 per side involved: The winner of the fight wins the encounter for their side. Simple!
(Example: Spill the Red from My Heart)

2 per side: If Qyrhy A and Qyrhy B found Burkut A and Burkut B, Qyrhy A and Burkut A would fight each other, and Qyrhy B and Burkut B would fight each other. If both fights are won by lions from the same faction (Qyrhy A and Qyrhy B win), then that faction (in this example, Qyrhy) wins the encounter. If there is a tie (a Qyrhy wins one fight and a Burkut wins the other), the winners will fight each other to determine which faction wins the overall encounter.

3 per side: Again, opponents pair off and face each other one-on-one. Since there is an odd number of pairs, a tie is impossible, so whichever side wins the majority of their fights (2 out of 3, or 3 out of 3 if they're really lucky!) wins the overall encounter.

Lopsided:
1 vs. 2 or 1 vs. 3
The lone lion faces his opponents one by one until he defeats them all...or loses. If he wins the first fight, he has the option of retreating if he doesn't want to risk successive fights with decreased health. If he continues to fight and wins the second, he again has the option of retreating instead of facing a third opponent.

2 vs. 3
This is more complicated, I'll figure it out when I have to.

Consequences of Losing an Encounter Fight
(This does not apply to pre-subforum encounters, or to practice fights between members of the same faction.)
Let's face it, these guys really hate each other, and given half a chance, will kill each other - not let the opponent they just beat run away! But it also wouldn't entirely fair to kill off lions left and right...but, again, it doesn't make a lot of sense to have it so no one's in any true danger. Enter the randomizer. Again.

If your lion loses an encounter fight, roll a 1d100: 1-98, your lion escapes; 99-100, your lion is killed. In other words, the loser has a 2% chance of dying. On the off chance the dice decide to hate you, though, you will be compensated with a replacement lion.

BATTLES

Battles can only be set up by Meepfur, and involve multiple lions fighting over a piece of territory, usually an oasis (or, very rarely, Baj-Jer). Sign-ups will be held prior to the battle, with no limit on number of lions involved; the only requirement is that it be an 'even' fight, with the same number of opponents on each side. Opponent pairs will be assigned via randomizer. Depending on how close the results of the initial set of fights are, either a victor will be declared, or the survivors will face off against each other to determine the final winner.

As with encounters, there is a risk of death in battle! If your lion loses an individual fight, but is from the side who wins the overall battle, roll a 1d100: 1-99 and your lion survives, 100 and it dies. If your lion loses an individual fight but is from the side who loses the overall battle, roll a 1d100: 1-97 and your lion survives, 98-100 and it dies.

Again, if your lion dies, you will be given a replacement.

Fight Mechanics:
((Just realized this post was missing...I'm so sorry!))

Both combatants roll, and whoever has the higher roll does the damage for that turn. Damage is determined by the difference between the rolls, as follows:
0: Dodged/Missed, no damage
1-2: Light Hit, -1 HP
3-6: Medium Hit, -2 HP
7-9: Hard Hit, -3 HP
Each combatant begins with 10 HP (adolescent fighters get 8 HP). The first to reach 0 will be forced to retreat (or die, but you probably don't want that xP). In battles with more than one combatant on each side, players will be put into randomized (except by request for IC reasons) pairs to fight, and whichever side has the most winners wins the battle. If the number of winners is the same on both sides, the winners will be paired off with each other (their HP does not reset from the previous fight), and the outcome of those battles will determine the winner.
