Thanks for all the entries, guys! Contest ends in just a couple of days!
As a note, though, judging might not be all that fast. My pet snake died today and I am feeling pretty rotten, so it might be a few days before I feel like doing Gaia related things!

::Just Like Dad:: Name: Sadaf Meaning: Arabic for Seashell Personality: Sadaf is overly confident, but has nothing to show for it. She gets better as she ages, but she will always have an air of confidence about her. She is afraid of many things, however she never shows it. In fact often times she goes out of her way to face her fears. Prompt Response: Prompt 1 Sadaf let our a sigh. Her siblings got lost again. She didn't understand why they ventured away from the pride, only to get themselves lost. She looked around and sighed. It seemed her mother had yet to notice the others disappearance. She hoped that she could slip away as well without her noticing. Quietly she starts to look for their tracks. It doesn't take her long to get completely lost herself. She glanced around. 'Don't worry, everything is alright. It shouldn't take me too long to find the others and get back home,' she thought.
As she walked on, getting herself further lost, she heard a rustling noise. She jumped up and turned toward the sound. "Reveal yourself you wicked beast!" She yelled. She was about to pounce when Upendi and Tamu appeared. "About time I found you! Now come on. We need to head home before mother finds out we are missing!"

::Just Like Mom::
Name: Dalia Meaning: Gentle Personality: Dalia has few dreams for herself as she grows older. At the most she hopes to one day be a Corsair like her mom, but she may not even make it that far. You see Dalia is a very frail, soft spoken female. She's very skittish and nervous of those around her. She fears loud noise, and even more she fears interaction. It isn't that she fears those she's been around her whole life, its just that she has sensitive ears. Those sensitive ears make even the tiniest of noise enhance much louder than a lion can withstand. To keep from startling or harming herself, she has perfected a very soft whisper of a voice. She does her best to watch her moms skill set so as to one day be just like her. But she still hasn't tried to get close to anyone in the pride, because a cub with a whisper of a voice and a fear of noise is just a little too weird for their tastes. Or as least that's what she thinks. Prompt Response: [1] Dalia paced manically back and forth across the little patch of land in front of their den. She'd seen them leave out of the corner of her eyes, and had even tried to stop them. But her soft voice hadn't reached their ears before they were out on some new adventure. She knew this couldn't be good, it had been some time since they'd left, and still there was no word. The day was losing its light and she had no idea what to do about it! She couldn't very well go out and search for them, she'd only get herself lost in the process. Her other siblings were all off doing their own things as well, what on earth was she going to do?
Looking down at the rough patch she had worn into the grass, the timid cub frowned. She had no idea what to do .... there had to be something. A look in the sky proved she was right, the night was coming in fast. At least soon her Mother would be home, then she could go out looking for them! Yes, that is what she'd have to do! She would have to rat them out to Mom, but at least then they would come home safely. Sighing, she was torn with her decision, she knew her siblings wouldn't be happy, which would probably end in them driving her crazy for it. But there really wasn't another option.
Looking up at the sound of an incoming lion, her eyes brightened when she saw her Mom. Immediately she darted to her side, rubbing softly against her leg and muttering in her soft voice all of the days events. "And I tried to tell them not to go. But I don't think they heard me. I didn't want to follow them, because I didn't want to get lost. But they never came back." Worry was written all over her face, but it washed away as she looked at her Mom. She knew she would find them with no problem. Now she would just have to deal with them.
::Just Like Dad::
Name: Aaliyah Meaning: 'To rise up' in Swahili Personality: Aaliyah is a lion with a high sense of self. She feels she can do anything she really sets herself to, regardless of the skill level required. She's strong willed, and hard headed. Seriously don't try to reason with her! She's the type that will throw her side of an argument in your face, until her last breath - even when she knows she's wrong. Which happens most of the time. She'll declare the sky is green and the grass is blue - and we all know that's wrong. Aaliyah is the type to believe she should shoot for the moon, because even is she misses she'll land among the stars. Though she refuses to think of the stars as an option - its the moon or nothing for this girl! [ She'll have slight Daddy issues, if that's OK xD ] Prompt Response: He was offering her a choice? Who was this guy to just show up and ask her to leave with him? Oh right - he was her Dad. Well he sure wasn't much of a Dad! Where had he been for her life so far? Aaliyah's nose wrinkled in distaste as she ran over the idea in her head. There were many things that could result from her leaving, One of which would be a lack of her becoming a Captain! She couldn't risk that, she had such high hopes for her one day crew! As she stood there, lost in her own thoughts, she listened to her other siblings. Each one had their own questions, their own ideas of what would become of them. But did any of them care that he hadn't even been there until just a few hours ago? It would seem not.
She didn't like this one bit, obviously she would be staying with her Mother. What proof did she have that her Dad wouldn't just disappear on her in the middle of the night? Exactly she had none! Aaliyah nodded to herself in triumph at her own deduction. She was getting a little smarter each day, and this only helped to prove it. Looking up from the dirt, she traveled the length of the male's leg and followed it up to his face. She looked almost identical to him, and the thought only hurt her further. How could someone who looked so much alike, be so different?
Taking in a deep breath, Alliyah opened her mouth to speak. "Well i'll be staying with Mom." She looked deep into the males eyes, challenging him to question her judgement. But he didn't, and for that her heart beat with triumph. And with a stiff nod of her head, she make a quick scene of leaving her Father in the dust. She wasn't going to let this hold her back, she needed to go back to training.

::Just Like Mom:: Name: Kiwe Meaning: Pebble Personality: Kiwe is a rather big girl, and very unlike her mother. She is the type to stumble on her paws and get in the way of someone's path. However, because of how popular her mother is and the way she carries herself, Kiwe has high aspirations to take after Uzuri. As a youth, she doesn't quite get it - she will be more awkward than graceful, and just won't know what to do in front of those in crew. She won't be particularly flirty - she would act like that, however, because it is a normal and standard thing for her to do; in the future, she would be the type to want to be loyal to one man, whether or not she ever fulfills that desire would be up to whoever she idolizes (if she loves someone and he doesn't return faithfulness, that'd be good dramatic conflict too)!
What Kiwe lacks in poise she makes up for in earnestness and devotion. Whatever she puts her heart into, she dedicates and puts whatever she can into something to achieve it. She would be the type to grow up into a homely, nice, and reliable corsair. Prompt Response: o1 Upendi and Tamu were at it again. Upendi was so sweet, so innocent, and that innocence often led to her curiosity of the world. She had told Tamu that she wanted to explore, and like the big brother he was, he agreed to accompany her and take care of the both of them while they walked. Unfortunately, this was one of the times when they walked a little bit too far; they were out of Kiwe's vision just a moment after she turned her attention away.
Maybe Upendi was a little too sweet to deny; maybe that was why Tamu followed her along when she wandered out too far from the heart of their pride. Kiwe looked around nervously, remembering that their mother had told them to not wander off while she went to talk to a member of the crew. She looked down at her creamy paws, dark green eyes filling with worry as she shuffled her legs. She looked up again - perhaps they would be back now?
She frowned. No, they weren't back yet. She saw the direction the two headed off to, and started pawing along the same path. The other cubs were lying around, sleeping. No, she couldn't take one of them with her... She didn't want to bother any of them, and what if she got in trouble for leading one of her other siblings away? So, she journeyed forth, keeping a close eye on the ground for the very vague and tiny two sets of pawprints she knew to belong to Upendi and Tamu.
"Tamuuuuu?" she started calling, once she neared an area that contained a lot of foliage; she figured she should call him first, as he would be more likely to notice and reply back, being the more responsible one.
"Tamu?" Kiwe continued as she walked along a path with a lot of rocks and bushes, turning her head this way and that.
"Oof!" she exclaimed, suddenly tripping over a large lump of grey something.
It should have hurt; it was a rock! All grey and lumpy and... it should have felt like a stone! She shook her head after her tumble, and swore that the rock sort of said something to her right after her trip.
"Shh. I'm hiding, Kiwe!" said the rock she just fell over - it was Tamu, whose head was ducked and peering through the bush he laid beside.
"Tamu!! We're not supposed to be playing hide and seek here!" Kiwe said concernedly, "Come back!"
"Aw, Kiwe, Upendi wanted to play out here and she was so excited!"
"Okay, well... fine! Come back after you're done or I'll be worried!" Kiwe exclaimed, taking her leave.
Unbeknownst to Tamu, Kiwe had made enough rustling noise through the bushes she walked around to attract Upendi's attention, shortly after letting him be spotted.

As an apology to everyone else who took the time to enter and did not win, I cannot offer you lions, but I can offer you some art for your troubles. c: If you would like a piece of art, just pm me with a character you would like for me to doodle. Winner Winner Chicken Dinner Again, terribly sorry for the wait, guys! RL been eating me alive and I had some drama going on that wasn't too great. I am back now, though, and more than willing to rp with ya'll! Will have your cubs posted for certing as soon as I can gather the rest of the info from the other owners. c: FOR THOSE WHO DID NOT WIN: Pm me a character you'd like me to draw and I will do that between work over the next couple of weeks. <3 Our winners arrrrrre: ChaosTheories ::Just Like Mom::Name: Mnandi Meaning: Zulu adjective/suffix meaning "sweet" Personality: Mnandi idolizes her mother, but she doesn't possess quite the same natural flair for preparing fruits or garnering male attention without degrading herself. As an adult she will try her best to be a proper lady and to offer some of the best fermented fruit herself, but she won't ever quite measure up to her own standards and may develop a secret addiction to her own fruits in order to cope. Though she will be hard on herself, she will still treat others with kindness and respect since she will also have her father's open-mindedness. Prompt Response Prompt 2The moment her father appeared, Mnandi didn't hesitate to start getting to know him. Whenever her siblings wavered in their questions and comments to him, she would jump right in with a big grin and fill in the gaps before a silence could settle down on them. Normally she would have acted a bit more aloof around a strange male in a partial mimicry of her mother's behaviour while she worked; however, excitement got the better of her and there was no doubt in her mind that the male was indeed her true father. After all, she and her siblings shared quite a few of his markings, and Upendi was even the same shade of grey! He also had his own stories to tell. Mnandi listened eagerly, loving to hear about the outside world. There was so much more outside the pride than she could have imagined! Then, came the offer... The offer to leave Maestros Del Mar and to travel with him. Mnandi had to quiet down and think about it. Her first instinct was to jump at the chance to see the world for herself. But then, she remembered how comfortable she was among the pirates. If she left... she would have to give up her dream of becoming a great corsair, didn't she? She doubted anything that she had learned so far would help her outside the pride. Then, there was the matter of leaving the rest of her family! Though she didn't want to admit it, she would miss their familiar company. Would she ever get to see them again? In the end, it was something completely different that made her decision final. She didn't have to go out to see the world... The pirates she would attend to when she was older would bring back all the stories she would ever need! And if she was to become like her mother, it wouldn't take much to convince them to tell her all about their adventures. She would never have to leave the comfort of home. As politely as she could, Mnandi excused herself to return home early. Her siblings could do what they wanted, but she planned on staying right where she belonged. Lilbabe808 ::Just Like Dad:: Name: Virvatuli Meaning: “will o' the wisp” Personality: Virvatuli is a very trusting cub. It is not that she is completely naïve. She just trusts in situations and likes to believe in the good of others. So she gives everyone a chance. If proven wrong, her trust is hard to gain back. She is a curious little thing, always wanting to explore and try new things. This can lead her into some bad situations. All in all, she is just a hyper little thing that loves to just live. As she gets older, it will show that she came from the Maestros Del Mar. She will develop a habit for swearing. Prompt Response: o2 Virvatuli had never met her father and had never thought she ever would. Now she knew that she shouldn't ever think like that. She stared up at the great, big lion that looked very similar to her. He told her that he was her father. She smiled up at him and her tail swished behind her in excitement. Of course he was her father! They looked so alike. Even if he didn't look like her, she wouldn't have doubted him. He wasn't being mean at all. It turned out that her father came from the rogue lands beyond the boundaries of the Maestros Del Mar. He wanted to know if she would go with him. There promised to be adventure out there in the lands beyond. She became torn between her family with the pirates and exploring with her father. On one hand, she loved her mother and siblings very much. On the other, she wanted to get to know her father and discover lots of new things that she wouldn't be able to by staying. In the end, her curiosity won out. She just couldn't say no to new adventures. That and her father seemed really nice to her. She already knew mother and her brothers and sisters. Daddy would be fun to learn about while exploring.
