User Image Talaitha stretched and heard a few things crack as she did so. It was so nice to have that finally happen. The last few days she had been feeling a bit off, mostly since she had gotten run over by a Thrall in way too much of a hurry. She had grumbled at the Thrall, made sure it was unharmed, and sent it on it's way. She was sure she was getting a reputation for being a very soft spoken and meek Freeborn, but she still had a friend in the Reaver Lesedi so it mattered little what the others thought of her. It was not as if she was searching for a husband or such for it to matter.

Although, she could think of a few Reavers that would think her reputation a good thing for a wife. Tal frowned as this hit her. Hmm, perhaps she should change her mild and meek if she wanted to avoid being sought out for marriage. Nah. They had enough other choices that they would leave her be. Besides, she might eventually find one she liked. Maybe. She had other things to focus on. The lioness carried a few things a short distance from her den and set up to work. She had things to do and could not let herself get distracted by others opinions.

Tal worked for a while in peace and enjoyed the sunlight on her fur. She could get lost in her work out here, especially when most others just hurried past without so much as a word to her. Thralls either had something to do, or did not want her to notice them and give them something to do, Freeborns were more interested in going to bother Reavers to find mates or ordering Thralls around, and Reavers, were usually busy going to train or to patrols or Viking. She was just a lone little island in the sea of motion. Or perhaps an anchored ship in the sea of motion?

User ImageErling, like so many others, did indeed seem to be busy.

As much as the older lion enjoyed passing the time with his daughter, his brother, and his good friends, he was hardly retired. He was still a Captain, even if he was the slightest tiniest bit past his prime (or so some might have said). He was on his way to observe some of the Reavers training. He hadn't been out viking in a while, and was beginning to think he ought to gather a band together to do just that.

Distracted as he was, it was no wonder he tripped over the lioness flopped in his path. Erling staggered, cursing. "Fool woman, what are you doing?"

Tal was not expecting anyone to run her over. She had tried to stay off to a side so she was less likely TO get run over. She gave an inward sigh when it happened though. Especially since he managed to flop on her tail a bit in the tripping. Her tail smarting from the abuse and her attention broken away from her crafting, the Freeborn looked around at the male. From the way he spoke and held himself, she would have guessed Reaver, but one never knew. "Are you harmed? I do hope you are not addressing me as 'fool woman.' That is quite rude. My name is Talaitha, I am a Freeborn, and what I am doing, is making jewelry that a few of the others have asked be made."

Her voice might have been soft and sweet, but there was that tone, that tone that rather reminded Tal of her mother when she thought about it. "There really is no reason for such hostility. I was off to the side for a reason, though you seem to have found my tail rather easily. One might think you were not watching where you were headed. But by the looks of you, you are a Reaver, and such distraction would be out of place. I am sorry my tail got in your way." She had to throw an apology in there just to be polite, but it did not mean she thought the male wasn't being a bit doofy to be yelling at her when he was not watching where he was going.

Erling didn't know this Talaitha female. One could hardly be expected to know all of the pride's Freeborn females. They seemed to be multiplying every time he turned around, what with Reavers dragging their outlander-born sisters in, for the gods only knew what reason, and Reavers hauling in yet more outlanders as wives and saltwives. She might even be thrall-born, for all he knew. Whoever she was, it irritated him that she didn't know his rank. It was unreasonable, maybe, but there it was. It also irritated him that she asked if he was harmed. A proud Captain, harmed by a stumble? He felt insulted.

"Freeborn women can be fool women just as well as any other women," Erling snapped, annoyed by the lioness's scolding. "I'm Captain Erling, Talaitha, Crafter of Jewelry."

Tal took a moment to listen to the male and gave another inward sigh at his manners. She was going to have to smooth this over somehow. It was not as if she could twist Lesedi's paw to set it right if the male was a CAPTAIN. Another Reaver maybe, but not a captain. "I do apologize Captian Erling. I am afraid I do not know that many members of our pride yet. My askorun was not too awfully long ago, but I do try to know at least enough to tell general ranks from mannerisms. I may be a fool to you, but you could at least be polite enough to make sure you did not harm someone by tripping over them, Captain. That big lump of muscle you call a body could squish someone, you know."

That last comment was half compliment and half insult, but Tal was trying. "I do not just make jewelry. I make all sorts of things, cloaks, armor... pretty much anything one would want. I believe in being useful to the pride even if I do not have the endurance for such a thing as Viking..." She watches a Freeborn sitting on it's tail ordering about a Thrall and sighs aloud. "I am glad that you are well, other than perhaps your pride for my mistake of rank." The lioness hoped she had not pissed the male off, but at the same time she was hoping he would come to his senses and realize just how rude he had been since she meant no harm and HE had not been watching where he was going. There really was no need for him to get all upset.

Erling snorted. The big lump of muscle he called a body, eh? Well, he wasn't so sure about the word 'lump', but he supposed it was somewhat of a compliment.

He was a bit disgruntled to hear that this female had fought an askorun, but at least she wasn't going out on vikings. He wouldn't treat a female Reaver in his band any differently from a male one, but he was firmly against the idea of female Reavers in the first place. This lioness would probably try to talk her enemies to death if she ever went viking.

"You do go on and on, don't you?" Erling asked. He sighed. He had only just met this female and was already weary of her, but he had to remind himself that he should try to be a bit more respectful even though he was annoyed. If females didn't get any respect at home, they would want to join the ranks of the female Reavers. "Well. I will try not to trip over you in the future, Talaitha. I am sure your crafting is very useful."

Tal chuckled at the Captain. "I do go on and on, but it does distract you, doesn't it?" She put a smile on her muzzle and went to playing nice now that he wasn't being so nasty. She had no idea about the male's opinion on female Reavers, but she certainly knew she wasn't one for such a thing. She had other things to do that did not involve going out trying to capture others and such. She would leave the 'Viking' to others, mostly males. She could always wish that those that were Freeborn were a bit more useful, but some things she could not change. She would just have to deal with them.

The lioness pulled her tail around to inspect it now that the male wasn't being such a grump. It looked fine and did not seem to have anything broken from what she could tell, so all was well. She turned her attention back to the Captain. "I would appreciate that if you do not mind the effort." She winked at him and picked up her work which was a rather heavy necklace of teeth and other things for one of the male Reavers. "I am sure at some point you will want something made to show off your importance as a Captain. Let me know if you do as I will gladly make such a thing."
