Quote: "That whole family is like, really weird," Nits applied one last dollop of crap to his cousin's shoulder before de-mucking his paws in the dirt. By the time he finished he was relatively disgusting, which suited him just fine. Nits didn't care about that kind of stuff like Resi -- or even Sindri -- did. Whatever. It was just dirt. "Maybe we could, like... maybe I could come beat him up and then you could show up and be all like NO NITS DON'T HURT HIM and then like.. I don't know, I stop kicking his a** or something." That thought momentarily sent Nits into a small daydream about growing up to be the biggest and most badass Captain in the pride. "Or we could just jump him and beat him up real good." That sounded like a good idea too. Quote: Giving Nits a sidelong I can't believe we're related look, Resi turned his attention back to Yolla. He gave his cousin a thorough once-over, reassuring himself that each and every scrape had been tended to. Only then did he give a thoughtful hum. "Maybe the time will just.. be right. And you'll know it. Maybe planning is a bad idea." That sounded good. Maybe then the right time would never happen, and Yolla wouldn't get his butt kicked a second time while bringing Nits into the mix.

"Really?" Yolla asked, intrigued. He knew nothing about the cub's family. He didn't even know his name. "How do you know?"
The idea of Nits beating up on the creep wasn't quite as satisfying as the idea of doing it himself, but Nits' idea definitely fulfilled all the possibilities he'd set down when outlining his secondary, ought-to-please-Resi plan. It even managed to include the jerk being beaten up still. And that was a very nice thing indeed.
"Probably both of us jumping him would look bad. Even if it would be retribution," he grumbled.
In turn, he gave Resi his own I-can't-believe-we're-related look. He really just did not get the whole concept. A family member had been hurt, and more importantly humiliated. Doom and destruction had to rain down on the offender. That was the way it worked, wasn't it?
Maybe Yolla was a little bit of a Stormborn after all.

Quote: "I don't know all the details, okay, but I do know that their mom is the forest ghost. I heard stories, okay. I listen to what's going on." Nits gave Yolla a strange look. "That's my job." After holding the stare for a few moments, Nits went back to tending to his greasy, muddy paws. "I mean, you said he was creepy, so I assumed it was one of those weirdos. Maybe it wasn't - but a lot of them don't even live in the pride, I think. A lot of them live out in the woods. Because they're a bunch of creepy weirdos." Nits cleared his throat. Being helpful, Nits. Doing it wrong. Quote: Resi caught the look and fell silent. He did so hate to fight. It simply wasn't the stuff he was made of. Quote: Bored with the talking, Nits clapped his paws together before beaming at Yolla. "Well, whenever you want to kick his butt, I'm ready. Probably not today though because I'm hungry, but maybe after I eat."

"I'll keep that in mind," Yolla said.
The b*****d's mother was the forest ghost? That didn't sound good. It actually made him seem more ominous and creepy. What in the bloody hells had Yolla gotten himself - and now his cousin-things - into?
"We'll get him next week or something. When I'm all healed up and we're all a little bigger," Yolla agreed. "Thanks for the idea. I like the one where you beat him up and I 'save' him."
He grinned and almost looked wicked for a moment, but the moment passed. He was not a wicked boy at heart and except in moments of anguish or extreme anger it did not come naturally to him to be cruel or even violent. That was not the way his mother had raised him before his father's coming.
"Thanks, you two. I knew I could count on you. I think I'm gonna go home now and 'fess up to Dad." That wouldn't be any fun at all, but it would have to happen sooner or later.
