Kjar was so excited that it was hard to think. He'd taken to following Tasnim around, hiding so that he didn't frighten her. When she did happen to spot him, Kjar gave the excuse that he was worried for her safety. She didn't seem to mind after that, which was good - because in truth, he was so obsessed with her that it was hard to think of anything else. He wasn't in love with her - no, no, not by a long shot. But he wanted her. He wanted to claim her. Kjar was almost 100% certain that Tasnim had never been taken by a male, and he wanted to claim her so badly that sometimes it was hard to think of doing anything else. His first problem had been thinking of how to woo Runa so that she might give him permission to take Tasnim as saltwife, second wife, whatever - it didn't matter. That's how desperate he was. As he strode into the den he shared with his wife, Kjar dipped his head immediately. "Runa."

Runa didn't know about her husband's newfound obsession. She generally assumed Kjar was busy with his duties, or busy teaching new thralls the ropes. What he did with those thralls was of little interest to her. Whatever female thralls he might be hounding, Runa was indifferent as long as they weren't dragged into her den. She smiled when Kjar entered. It was still pleasantly new to have such a devoted (and handsome) lion for a husband. She rose to her paws and went to meet him, raising her head to brush her cheek against his. "Kjar," Runa purred, her green eyes sparkling. "And how has my fine lion's day been?"

Kjar rumbled softly, pressing his cheek against Runa's in return. She was such a fascinating creature, his Runa, and her strength and fire truly caused a hunger deep in his gut that he knew he would never tire of. He was a selfish lion; Kjar recognized this. He could not help himself - he wanted everything. He wanted his spitfire wife, and he wanted the pale, pure Tasnim.
"Today has found me well, dearest wife. And you?"
How could he ask? How could he get what he truly wanted? Both females in his home. Both his.
He had to think of a way to make it seem as if having a second female in the den would benefit them both.

Runa lashed her tail idly, pleased with Kjar's show of affection. Many in the pride considered him a brute. They were fools. He was simply a passionate lion.
A passionate lion that seemed somewhat distracted today. Runa had always been good at reading lions, and she could tell that something was preoccupying Kjar's thoughts. She wondered briefly if he was thinking of cubs. All the females in the pride seemed atwitter with talk of having cubs these days. It was revolting.
"I've enjoyed my day, my husband," Runa said. She fixed him with her keen gaze, wondering what he was thinking of. Kjar was normally very straightforward. "What troubles you, husband? I can tell your thoughts are not all here, with me."

Kjar figured that she would appreciate honesty and bluntness, and any attempts to persuade her would be looked down upon. If he merely told her what he wanted, perhaps she'd be more generous with him.
And if not, well. He would deal with hit and do his best to strike Tasnim from his mind.
"I.. there is a lioness, Runa. I have no urge to.. there are no warm feelings in my heart for this lioness." He wasn't making sense.
"I want her. She is .. I just. Please."

Runa's eyebrows raised slowly as Kjar babbled at her. By the time he was done, they were quite high indeed.
"I didn't marry a babbling idiot," Runa remarked, somewhat coldly. She didn't care what he did with his filthy thralls, but they had no place in her den. She certainly didn't want to hear about Kjar's lusts, either. "What are you telling me?"

Kjar set his jaw. He recognized the look in her eye, the chill in her voice. He narrowed his eyes.
"I wish to take this lioness as a saltwife. Not a thrall - though she'd look after the den, keep after any cubs. You will always be first in my life, Runa. Never doubt this. You are perfection - she is just... a toy - but a toy that I want no other to touch. One that belongs only to us."
There. He'd said it.

So he wanted a saltwife? Runa lashed her tail irritably. She didn't have anything against saltwives. She had actually meant to find him a saltwife herself. Runa liked her mate to have a virile reputation, and she liked having a female around that would serve her and wait on Kjar if Runa was busy.
But she didn't like Kjar finding one on his own. How was Runa to know if this lioness was suitable? Even if she was suitable, it meant Kjar's eyes had been wandering to the Freeborn females, and Runa found herself quite disgruntled at that.
"A toy?" Runa asked. A toy for us, he'd said. Hmph. "I don't know if I want a toy, husband." She wrinkled her nose in an expression of distaste. "You have plenty of thralls to play with, if you need toys."

This wasn't going as planned. This was going worse than planned, actually, and Kjar took a moment to rethink his approach. Should he play the forward, demanding husband? No, that wouldn't end well. Kjar dropped his head and pinned back his ears, a hopeful expression on his face. Yes, it might work. "Perhaps if you met this female you would feel the same way, wife - and if, upon meeting her, you do not feel the same way - well, consider the topic dropped." He felt sick just saying it, but a happy wife meant a happy home, truth be told.

troll toll Hmph. Runa was wary, waiting for Kjar to try to bully and demand the stupid white outlander. Runa was ready to deal with that. Sharply. She was no pushover, not like Kjar's dull little thralls. Kjar's deference pleased her slightly. Runa waited a moment to think it over, wanting Kjar to agonize a bit as he waited for her words. A marriage was a partnership, of course, so if Kjar was willing to concede on the matter of the saltwife then she should be willing to at least give it some thought. "I will meet her," she said at last, reluctantly. She looked at Kjar coolly. "I will think about what you've said, husband, and consider whether she will suit my needs as well." pinchmonster Kjar made a low, pleased sound - just as she'd intended, he had agonized as he waited for her words. He knew that he was not the one in control of this relationship - and to be frank, it pleased him greatly. He loved having control in his duties, beating the rebellion out of any thrall that needed it - but here, at home, he knew that Runa ruled the roost. He preferred it that way. "You please your husband, wife, with your gracious ways and endless patience." He would have to find a trinket of some sort to show his gratitude.
