Aquila was on her way across the lands- she had just gotten out of her training and was trying to learn to get used to the sweltering heat. She had been growing accustomed to it in her time in the roguelands- she decided a while ago to get used to the weather. Long before her challenge. It had sure helped, though, she couldn't say she was 100% used to it.

The sun was beating on her back, but it was on its way down- the sand was starting to get warmer than the air. She was loving it now, though, her training had been just what she had sought for so long. The serious training lifestyle, and the strong organization of the Firekin was what she had always needed in her life- now that she had it, she felt complete. She padded across the sands of the pride's lands, tail flicking lightly behind her.

Goal, to live harder, faster and stronger. Reality, Wook was wandering the border, the sun beating down on his pelt and the hours were beginning to do their worse, he was not immortal after all and heaved a grateful sigh when the familiar face of another guard came into view and he was relieved of his duty for the time being.

Limbs basically numb from the slow day he stretched and aimed directly for what little cover they had where he was. Staying there only briefly he chose not to waste his time off and began his usual routine. Wandering.

From wandering on the job, to wandering off the job. The only difference, one wasn't a jobs need.

The heat in mind, he was near deciding to hole up for the day when he spotted her. A femme, an odd coat pattern and a particularily bouncy way of stepping. Perhaps the sand did not sit well with her paws, or maybe she was simply to happy, the tail flicking gave it away.

He said nothing, but began a slow walk towards her, wary.

She was still an unknown to him.

The sight of another firekin on the horizon began to materialize over the sands and Aquila couldn't help but be a little bit uncertain. She knew... Pretty much nobody, but she felt a need to get to know some of her pridemembers outside of work. Of course, she had to ensure the other was out of work. And in the mood to talk at all- that was pretty important. Still, she had to get to know some people.

That thought in mind, she altered course slightly towards the plainly wary male. She gave him a brisk nod and slowed as she approached him. "Good evening," she said seriously, but in as friendly of a tone as she could. "Are you on duty?" She asked- it was important not to be disturbing one who had bigger things to do. However, perhaps she could learn a thing or two from the lion. Aquila would quickly admit she was new- and any advice she could get, she would definitely take into consideration.

The interaction began oddly, she was a very serious individual and had a clearly given statement of extremely great work ethic. He smiled at her warmly, but not to much so, he carried himself in a laid back fashion that he hoped would encourage her to do the same. Being off duty meant taking a moment to relax, at least to him. He wasn't completely certain about some of the members, but he figured they relaxed at some point.

"Evening.." He spoke in return, a subtly deep voice. "No, just returning from a border patrol." Wook smiled again, female company directly after a boring shift on duty, what was the luck of this! Well company at all was truly a lucky scenario, and one whom was not discussing problems to boot. A win win if there ever was any.

Though he hadn't considered this before he took one more look over her, she was showing signs of heat stress and was unfamiliar. She was new to the pride, if she had truly joined, suspicions rose and sharp lightly. He would not jump to conclusions that she was an outsider. Not yet. "The sands don't treat you well yet?" He asked curiously, he was born in the sweltering heat and lived by it. Nothing was better. She was clearly familiar with it, but not friends with it.

Being excessively laid back wasn't truly her style, but she did feel a little bit more at ease after she found he was off duty as well. "I'm glad I haven't disturbed your duties," she said honestly, a hint of relief in her voice. His own laid back style began to settle lightly on her, but it was only noticeable in a slight relaxing of her stance. Aquila had been prepared to keep moving if he had been busy, but he didn't seem to mind the company. "Ah, it's that obvious, huh? I had hoped it wasn't by now," she said, lifting a paw and glancing to it. It already felt nice to have it off the ground. Though, she had found if she kept from moving, the sand acclimated to her temperature, but for now it was a little warm for her. Sure, she was better off than she was when she got here, but there was still clearly some rogueland-pansy in her.

"I joined not long ago... I won my challenge after trying to get used to the climate, but I personally know I'm not quite accustomed to it just yet. I'll get there," she said, mentally urging herself to get there faster. Many firekin were competitive, and equally many were judgmental- such a weakness would find no pity here. And that was the way it should be, at least to her mind. But still, she hoped that others wouldn't notice. "My name's Aquila," she said with a small bow. "Would it be alright if I kept your company for a short while? If you don't mind, that is." she offered, a small smile on her muzzle. She hoped she wouldn't have to explain: she needed to make some friends, or at least acquaintances.

The work ethic was unbelievable in this lioness. Her stance told of a structured need to be always doing something, with someone, but certainly not dependent on the individuals whom took part in providing company for her. Wook watched as Aquilla seemed to slowly relax, not but much, but he was sure it was a lot to her. Without further talk of it he simply listened.

He smirked slightly. "It was more a hunch." He almost laughed, but held himself still, though the smirk quickly turned to a smile. "Would you like to continue walking?" He asked her as she removed her paw from the warm sand. Wook was sure it felt nicer to walk, he knew from experience. Even his paws were susceptible to the heat the ground provided.

"Getting accustomed to our lands takes much time, from cub to adult I too need some adjusting here and again. Same as many other lions." He knew he was different, his idea of compassion was certainly misleading some of the pride members whom were more competitive and found his ways of speech and more a little.. weak.

Wook, he didn't personally care, due to his being born here he of course had his quirks, and if they couldn't accept all of him, he would keep his ideals to himself and do his duties. Nothing more, til asked for.

"Company?" He was surprised and pleased all at once. She didn't need to ask, but he figured she was still a little nervous and held her own ideas aswell. "My name is Wook, and of course I will accept company." The smile he bore before returned, meeting hers.

"Well that's a bit of a relief," Aqui said honestly with a small chuckle. "I was afraid I was sticking out too much," she said with a little head tilt of dismay. His offer was really tempting, but she didn't want to make it seem like she needed to walk. She could stand here and lightly sizzle her paw pads, if she needed to. But she supposed... She didn't need to. "Walking would probably be good," she said, though she wasn't quite sure of a heading. The lioness had nowhere to be immediately.

She took a moment to memorize the name to the face, and to make sure she would put this encounter with him. She had to get to know people, after all, and that meant more than just a name to a face. It meant a nature to that association as well.

She walked beside him and listened to his words, paying close attention. "That long, hmmm? Well, living in a land like this wouldn't be easy to adjust to, that I knew," she said, looking up at him without turning her head directly. "... But requiring constant adjustment, maybe not so much." However, she knew she should have expected it. The world is always changing- she'd have to make adjustments all her life if she wanted to stay sharp. Why would that be any different here?

"So Wook... You were somewhat far out- you're probably... A guard, right?" she asked, this time looking up to him directly. Ranks were something she had already learned, as were the jobs associated with them, but she still wanted to ensure that she got them right. She felt a need to get to know better lifestyles of the different ranks, and she felt something like that was a safe topic anyway.

Wook smiled slowly, she had a unique humor and it amused him. Upon accepting his offer of walking he did just that, no direction, no idea of a place to head, just started to walk. Sometimes, he felt, it was better to have no direction at all. You can find more than simply unique things, the whole world was probably found by accident her presumed.

"Well.." He spoke quietly at first, trying to think about it. Life was ever changing, how could one simply get used to it and not have to grow anymore than they already had? He presumed ignorance like that could be left with tree dwellers. Those who knew little of change due to their climate being such a larger land mass. Though he chose to not get grouchy and connect that to this single lioness. "So long as you understand." He said simply, a change of thought seemed to come over the females maw as she understood what he had meant. Perhaps those who did not experience things like a drought couldn't understand nearly as well? But she seemed to accept.

"Ah yes, the ranked assigned to me. Guard." He said with a sincere grin. "Though.. even for a guard I had traveled beyond my limit, seeking shelter in a shadier climate briefly. Though, it can't hurt me I suppose, my watch had ended moments after." The last bits were spoken more to himself, but still out loud. He looked away then back again at Aquila." What is it you do for us here Aquila?" He asked, a welcoming grin returning to his maw as he spoke.
