Galning took a while to stop gaping at the thing that had come out of the water. It was huge. It was like ten Bilijos put together. Well. Bilijo was really hefty. Maybe eight Bilijos. Just thinking about the quivering, gelatinous mass of flesh that was Bilijo made the spotted reaver grimace.
Ru had commanded him and the others to hold, which was fine by Galning. As much as it shamed him, his first instinct had not been to attack the great shining sea creature, but to back away slowly and hope that it wasn't hungry. He had not expected a sea monster to have legs. Or wings. That just wasn't fair.
The questions he put to the group made Galning uncomfortable, but not nearly as uncomfortable as the reaver felt once he realized that this creature who spoke in the first-person plural was a god, specifically of fish. Galning had no idea what dolphins and whales were, but he was fairly certain he'd never eaten one of those, which was a shame since the "magnificent" god didn't seem to like them and it would've been nice to give him good news.
He decided to try again to make a good impression on the others with his bravery in delivering unpleasant news to this god by admitting, "We do eat fish. But mostly during the season when our herdbeasts can't be culled without damaging the population."
And then, because he was basically an impulsive lion, he added, "What's a whale?"

"What's a dolphin, for that matter...? Can you... Can you show us?" Then Munyu suddenly realized something. This god hated whales and dolphins, whatever they were... They were monsters to him! "Can we... Get one of their TEETH? It... It sounds like you don't like them... So they must be monsters... In the sea... Sea monsters... We weren't told the sea monster was a FISH, just that it was a monster in the sea..." It was, as far as he could figure, a genius notion. If these whales and dolphins were monsters, maybe this god could help them get a tooth from one.
The vulture preened at her feathers, listening to the god and the lions. After a moment, she hopped back off the cliff, gliding down and landing by the god. "Nondo tell stupid-lions, they STUPID! Nondo WARN them... But they not LISTEN!" She wagged a wing at the lions, trying to scold them. "But they STUPID lions! Stupid, stupid, stupid lions!" She clacked her beak at them, ruffling her feathers. "Stupid-lions should be fed to big-fish-lots-teeth!"

It never pleased him to hear that mortals fed upon his creations. Even the Pride where his own son lived ate fish. As much as he disliked it, he had come to accept it, but only in very specific circumstances. Otherwise, he wouldn't think twice about wiping out a Pride that ate his creations without any control or respect. The fact that this particular Pride only ate fish when other prey was scarce was quite a good sign.
"Whales and dolphins are mammals of the sea. They are poor imitations of Our fish, with numerous flaws. Ugly, noisy, incredibly stupid and completely without dignity." He snorted. "We were here first, and in all of Our countless lifetimes, We have yet to encounter the one responsible. We think they are avoiding Us." Bahari'nswi blinked as his thoughts returned to the matter at hand.
As if one of the mortals read his mind, they suggested that he get them a tooth from one of the true sea monsters. Of course, he wouldn't do that simply because he would enjoy it. He would have to get something in return. "Long ago We came to accept the harsh reality that mortals sometimes have no choice but to prey upon Our precious creations. We do not like it, but if mortals pay Our creations the necessary respect that is owed them, We will not retaliate." A small grin touched the God's whiskered face. "Worship also helps."
Bahari'nswi lifted a paw and started raking his claws through his lustrous mane, a thoughtful expression now gracing his face. "If you mortals promise to continue only to hunt fish when there are absolutely no other options, and to worship Us in whatever way you see fit, We will bring you a sea monster."

Ru's back paws shifted uneasily, but in a way he hoped people would think was just due to settling sand. He was relieved that they would not have to fight this god, because he would have ordered his band to attack if it had proven necessary. If it had proven necessary, he would have tried to rip one out one of the fish god's teeth. Fortunately, he'd not had to do any of those things.
Just the same, he was not quite comfortable with imposing worship on his band. Not all of them had been raised as Stormborn, and perhaps had their own beliefs. Ru, himself, believed in gods because he could hardly deny their existence, but he did not really worship any of them, even those which were said to be the ancestors of the Stormborn. They were not, after all, his ancestors. And yet it was little enough that the fish god asked of them.
"I believe that I, for one, can keep to those terms," he said. "But I will not speak for the others present."

To say that Kree was anxious was putting things lightly. In all his seasons living on the ocean, he had never seen a lion god, let alone a lion god of the fish. He ate fish... Well, he ate many things, but he did prey on sea creatures and to meet their god, well that had the gull feeling somewhat apprehensive. He had taken to the air as the god spoke, putting some distance between himself and the ground, though he was sure the god could follow him if it really wanted.
The god spoke of whales and worship and the lion leader seemed to accept, at least for himself.
He had been hoping for a big sharp tooth fish, not this. He came to rest near Aluka yet again, her being the only lion he felt he could trust. It was in his nature to flee, but he'd feel bad leaving his sort of new friend to die at the paws of this sort of sea monster.
"Lion god big." He whispered quietly, placing a feather on his chest as he did so. He couldn't remember a time he felt so intimidated.

Halvdan hadn't had much chance to try to get the gulls' attention, but as it turned out they didn't have to negotiate with the birds after all. Something bigger had turned up. Much, much bigger. He couldn't help staring at the fish-god, and much like the others he was thankful that no fighting seemed to be neccessary. When the god introduced himself he nodded in greeting, but didn't offer his name in return. It seemed redundant.
"I'll give up fish if that's what it takes," he said. He wouldn't be able to look at seafood without thinking about the fish-lion-god anyway. It just looked wrong! He could probably manage the worship part somehow too, if only to make sure that the slimy looking god wouldn't have any reason to come by and demand vengeance or something.

Asper had been rather distracted by pretty shells and smooth sea stones. Suffice it to say when the massive fish-god rose majestically from the water, he froze. It took him a long time to realize that it was talking, and his eyes nearly popped right out of his head.
RIGHT OUT OF HIS HEAD.
It was, after all, the first time Asper had ever seen a God, and it was everything he'd imagined - and more, truthfully.
"No fish," he whispered breathlessly, forcing himself to take a deep, briny breath of salty sea air.

Munyu swallowed, then gave a bow of his head. "I... I think I can live with those conditions..." Not that he really ate much fish. It wasn't much to his taste under even adverse circumstances, so it wasn't a hard sacrifice to make with eating not much fish.
Nondo eyed the big-fish-lion-god, fluttering her feathers a bit. "Nondo not care what fish-lion say, Nondo vulture, vulture eat only already-dead things." She then looked at the lions, considering her options. They were an interesting lot... And if she stayed where she was now, living by the sea, she might bring the ire of the big-fish-lion-god... Or one of the big fish lots-of-teeth. She'd seen those jump out of the water and snap up birds... And that was some of the SMALLER ones. The vulture clacked her beak, before hopping over and pecking at the white and black lion. "You! You carry Nondo!" She didn't give him an option, hopping up onto his back. "Take Nondo with! See MANY things!" She held her head high, clearly set on this idea.
Munyu gave the vulture a flat look. "Why should I carry you, and why should we bring you with us?"
The vulture shrugged. "Iunno, because Nondo's lazy? And stupid lions did stupid and brought up big-fish-lion-god! Stupid-lions deserve annoyance of Nondo around them!" When the lion gave her a sour look, she swatted him with a wing. "Stop looking at Nondo that way!"

Thus concludes this portion of Ru's quest. It can be assumed from this point that Bahari'nswi follows through on his part of the deal and produces a sea mammal tooth for the band to bring home.
You are all welcome to continue posting to wrap things up if you like, but there will be another part to the meta coming up in the near future.
Now let me just count things forever and a half.

Talencia Congratulations! You've won one of Jakyra's cubs. This handsome freeborn to be precise. For more information about the family and circumstances surrounding the litter's birth please PM Princess_Feylin. Also, please send any naming information to her as well. He and his litter will be posted once they've all been homed. For everyone else, step right this way. More adventure awaits!

So...all they had to do was agree not to eat fish anymore and worship the god of fish in their own way? To Galning, that sounded a little too easy. This was not, so far, shaping up to be much of an epic quest, in his opinion, despite the appearance of fish gods.
"I solemnly vow that I will never consume fishy flesh again," he said. It didn't seem to him like anyone else was really taking the matter seriously. Certainly they weren't speaking very formally. He'd already forgotten his outburst about the whales.
"And I will do my best to worship you in a way that is appropriate to your...er...magnificence." He had no idea what way that would be, or how he would explain that he now worshiped the god of fish. Maybe he just wouldn't mention it to anyone, and do these things quietly. Yes. That was what he would do.
