	I really want to learn Japanese so that I don't have to read subtitles on my favorite shows anymore and so I can eventually fulfill my dream of going to Japan and being able to go around without a translator or cheatsheet. please help? crying

I suggest starting by memorizing the hiragana and katakana characters. I started from scratch when I started college and that's where we began so I think it's a good starting point. Plus that will let you get into some resources not put in romaji.
