Kerra leaped backwards when their mother's paw came down on Bakar's tail. Gulp. He didn't want to get pinned down like that! No way! "We'll be good, mum. We promise." He bounced on the tips of his toes in barely contained excitement. If there were going to be arguments and fights between the adults he definitely didn't want to miss out on that. It could be very educational! Buuut, getting Vesta to take them might be more difficult than convincing their parents they would be well behaved. She wasn't the bravest lioness in the pride...
Why couldn't they have a more adventurous babysitter?
"Well, since I've delivered the kids safe and sound, I'll be on my way." Azar said, getting back up onto his paws and flexing his shoulders in preparation for the short hike back to the training grounds. He spared a short look in Heti's direction and then, with a short nod towards Armada, he turned and began off across the sand, his pace unhurried.
Heti sighed and, when he was sure his father was out of earshot, said: "Well, he wasn't in too bad a mood today. Perhaps we should send the cubs his way more often..."

Armada smiled, a rumble echoing in her chest. A rare expression on the otherwise terminally serious female's face. She had her suspicions that Azar was better with kids than he thought. Heti was a good male, and he'd trained Hraga well.
As long as they didn't inherit his...lesser qualities, she could think of very few others she'd entrust her children to.
"I think he likes being a grandfather," she mused. "But he'd better not convince the entire litter to be guards. I won't be able to show my face if we don't get a couple of good soldiers out of the lot."
Bakar grinned toothily. "I already told you mom, I'm going to be all the things!"
She gave him a passing glance behind her, and then moved beside Heti. At least for now, she could enjoy simply being a parent.
