Maji was not happy. This was unusual, as the cub had a very great deal to be happy about. Yes, he was without a mother, but he had two grandmothers, an aunt, an uncle and two brothers. They all lived together in a cozy den and he never had to be alone if he didn't want to. Then Grandma Tarafa had brought home another boy. An older boy. Named Kestven. Maji was trying to like him...but why did they need another brother? And he wasn't even a lion, he was a cheeton! Luckily he was not in the den right now, which was just fine with Maji.

Ua was neither happy nor unhappy, he was indifferent. Today was about as average a day as there could be, as far as he figured, and an adventure outside the den to find a way to make the day extraordinary was a bust. So the little pink cub was dragging his feet all the way back to the den. He left no little paw prints on his way back, only lines, occasionally broken by accidental steps.
"Maji!" he cried in surprise when he arrived and realized one of his brothers was still at the den, "I didn't think anybody was still at home!"

"H'lo Ua," the blue cub mumbled, still grumpy. "Find any adventures today?" he asked his brother, trying to stir up some interest. He'd declined to go out earlier when everyone else had left, and now he wasn't sure if that was a good or bad thing. It was nice to not have Kestven around, but now he realized he'd been kind of lonely. After all, there were usually lots of people in here!

Maji's grumpy tone wasn't helping Ua cheer up after a failed afternoon of adventure-hunting. He flopped onto the ground, stretching out all of his legs and then just laying there, sprawled out, shaking his head.
"Nothing!" he said, "There's nothing to do today, I couldn't find aaaanything."
He'd avoided where Grandma and some other Bards were likely to be found, though it was probably the safest bet when seeking entertainment. After all, that was a lot of what they did. But because it was Grandma.. it just wasn't the most appealing option to try first.
"Do you have any ideas?"

"Uhhhhh..." Maji was caught of his guard by the sudden request, though he supposed he should have seen it coming. So he sat back and thought about it. What could the two of them find to do?
They could wrestle. That was always fun, though it hurt and Grandma Tarafa tsked about how dirty they got.
They could go and find interesting rocks. That would take them all over...but their feet would hurt from all the walking and there'd be no way they could carry all their interesting stones.
They could go watch Grandma Mittere teaching the big lions how to fight. That had good and bad things. Good - they got to watch all the practice fighting! Bad - someone might step on them if no one noticed them. Good - Grandma Mittere always had new and interesting names to call people! Bad - if Grandma Mittere noticed them, she'd make them practice too. Oh, and of course, there was the same Grandma problem as seeking out the Bards.
Finally Maji's gold eyes lit up as he settled on a suggestion. "What if we went out? All the way out to the border?"

Ua blinked when Maji finally settled on a suggestion, surprised that it should be to go all the way out to the border. The little pink cub didn't even have any idea of where that was but it sounded reeeeally far away.. and he had a feeling he'd been told at some point not to go too close to the border. But that was as much in favor of going as against.
"Do you think we could really make it that far?" he asked, sounding interested but doubtful. It would be an adventure, there was no arguing that part of it.

Maji grinned wickedly at his pink brother. "Of course we can! And if we can't, it'll be because one of the grownups catches us. That's the trick, you see. To get all the way out there without anyone sending us home!"
He was getting really excited now that he'd picked something. He'd even forgotten about how he'd been so angry at Kestven!
This was going to be the best adventure ever! The blue cub headed up to the opening of the den, turning back to look at Ua.
"Well, you coming?"

Well, that was one way to look at it! And that was all Ua needed to hear to be convinced. He hopped back up to his feet, stumbling a bit from the effort it took but then hopping along after his brother.
"Definitely!" he said, "Check if anybody is out there."
It wouldn't do to be caught before you even left the den! If someone was there, they would just have to be extra sneaky getting away. The trouble of getting caught being sneaky leaving the den never crossed his mind, though.

Maji looked around quickly. He saw lions, but they were further away, and none looking in their direction. Most importantly, he couldn't recognize any of them. That was great!
He turned back to his brother. "We're clear! Let's go!" The blue cub couldn't help grinning wildly as he led his brother out. Oh, how fun this would be! Going to see the border! He bounced as he walked with excitement.

Since it was more fun over-acting stealth, Ua came out behind his brother and looked around carefully even though Maji had declared the coast clear. Once he was convinced by his own eyes, he scrambled after Maji.
"OK!" he cried, louder than he intended but certainly excited. He didn't know which direction would take them to the nearest border, any direction seemed like it would be far, far away.. he just hoped they picked a good one.

They were off, they were on their way, they were going to be the greatest adventurers in the entire pride-
Maji stopped abruptly, sitting on his butt in the dirt as a green lioness bent over them with an expression of curiosity.
"I wonder where the two of you are going, hmmm?" Jani asked with a gleam in her eye.
The blue cub was silent, eyes wide as he looked up at his aunt. He hoped they wouldn't get into big trouble, since she didn't actually know where they'd been headed.
"Come on you two troublemakers, let's get back to the den. It is your naptime after all," the lioness informed them cheerily, expertly herding the boys back home.
The border would have to wait for another day.
