[1v1] Sand and Feathers (Kiwi & Shaheen)

Kiwi had been up bright and early today. He was determined to work on his abs. They simply ... were a bit less than desiriable. He'd also come to find that sweating it out in the heat seemed to focus his mind away from the whispers, and allow him some clarity of thought.

Halfway through a set of inverted crunches - dangling from a lower treebranch - he happened to spy a figure coming across the reserve.

Was that ... Shaheen?? ... An idea crossed his mind, and with an unkempt grace the Famine horseman dropped to the ground. "Ah, Shaheen! Would you happen to have a spare moment by chance??"

He wanted to test something.

Walking along, minding her own business (except for the fact that her eyes were darting around suspiciously, trying to see everyone and everything at once) the last thing Shaheen expected was to hear a familiar voice calling to her from..

..A tree?

Well no, coming from War, that really wasn't so strange. What was strange was seeing Kiwi hanging upside down from the tree branch, and the chieftain tilted her head to the side with a frown, golden eyes staring into his.

"Kiwi?" She sounded wary, and she winced a little at his dismount from the tree, half expecting him to crash into the earth head first, though surprisingly he kept his feet beneath him. Still, while she did not exactly know the horseman from famine well in this world, she found herself taking a few steps towards him, though she still eyed him as though he might jump at her and yell "boo!" at any moment.

A spare moment? Well...ya, she really had nothing going on, unless she wanted to spend the day helping to build things, and that just got tediously boring after a while.

"I am free right at this moment." She nodded her confirmation of this fact, and waited for him to continue.

"Wonderful!" the horseman beamed, and then slowly tilted his head thoughtfully as he continued. "You see, I haven't really been able to test my limits on my own. And I wouldn't mind a little one on one workout, if you're up for the challenge??"

The battle-hungry grin on his face was obvious. Kiwi may have been a Famine clansman by birthright, but war was in his nature.

For some reason, just the simple way that the other horsemen tilted his head to the side sent a jolt of alarm racing through Shaheen, and she felt herself taking a small step backwards and away from him before she gave herself a bit of a mental slap. This was Kiwi, for deities sake! He was hardly going to suddenly attack her by surprise for no reason.

"Oh." She replied, raising an eyebrow and pretending to be fine, even as she forced herself to take back the step she had lost. "Well, of course!" Never not sparring, training, working out, or battling for this chieftain of war.

Suddenly a smirk was alighting her face, marred only by the grey that swirled against the corner of her lips, before she barked out a laugh. "A challenge? Let us just see who is more of the challenge, little faminer."

A blade suddenly flashed to her hand, and her wings twitched behind her in anticipation.

Her body, and her dagger, were ready.

A grin spread across Kiwi's face at her answer.

"You better bring it!" He beamed, summoning his sickle in one hand as he launched the blade towards her. It wasn't a direct hit, but it wasn't a miss either.

He was fast, but her grin matched his own, with perhaps just a little more feral nature laced in, even as his blade lashed out towards her. She raised her own dagger to block the blow, but his glanced off and still managed to graze against her arm, forcing her to step back with a swift beat of her wings, rather then risk further injury by pressing forward.

She would take her time, and strike when the opportunity that presented itself was ideal to do so. She knew how to wait.

"I wouldn't dream of not." Her eyes narrowed into dangerous slits. "But you have to promise the same."

Kiwi was nothing short of stoked. "On my honor as a horseman." And whirling the chain, he let the blade fly, catching into and tearing at one of Shaheen's wings. But he didn't stop there. The Famine horseman leapt forward, sending several stout kicks to her shoulders and back, as he reclaimed the scythe and tumbled past.

Well...she had really asked for this, hadn't she? Even her careful and cool calculations of the man from famine that she hardly knew, yet still felt a sense of comraderie with since their stint in the dream world together, wasn't enough to prepare her for his vicious attack. She was not as familiar with combating the type of weapon that he weilded, and she while she attempted to dodge, she felt that steely blade tear into one of her wings, and she grimaced, a low snarl escaping from her throat. Anyone who knew Shaheen would know that her wings were her pride and joy, and that she hated--no, she absolutely loathed having them messed with.

Still, it was exactly what Kiwi needed to shatter her calm, her eyes flashing with anger as she took the barrage of hits to her back, teeth gritted against the rage that was welling up inside of her. Part of her wanted to transform into her mount form, to let loose in a manner that was more wild and reckless, with teeth and claws. But no, it was an unfair advantage, and she had not asked for permission before hand.

So she would do this the old fashioned way. With teeth bared she moved, her wings folding against her back, then flaring as she jumped into a spinning kick, aimed for the faminers stomach.

Kiwi hadn't expected his attack to anger her so. But coming from one with damaged wings, he could sympathize. This battle though, was no time for sympathy. The Famine colt grunted as he was thrown back into the dust by the force of her kick. Coughing, he slowly pulled himself back to his feet, centering himself before launching his weapon once more. The chain whirred out and curled round her legs. One solid tug, and it was Kiwi's turn to pull her into the dust.

I'll make this up to you when it's over, he promised silently.

Pull her into the dust he did, and the tall and toned war chieftain fell to the ground with a solid "thud." her wings tucking in tight to her back, and her teeth gritting against the impact. She kicked her legs to loosen the hold his weapon had on them before slipping them free, spinning in a spray of sand back to her feet, her wings beating to help send her back upright.

"Very impressive." She gave him a feral grin, her eyes narrowed, and her dagger was summoned to hand just moments before she lunged forward, striking with quick slashes of her dagger, left to right then right to left in diagonal motions, aimed straight for his chest.

Pain wracked Kiwi's tiny frame, the force of her blows dropping him to his knees. But only for a moment. Kiwi's fingers wrapped tightly round her arm as he brought himself to his feet, aiming a grazing blow for her side.

"You're not so bad yourself," he smiled genuinely, launching back to lift his sickle and chain at the ready. With a little luck, she wouldn't knock him from his feet this time.
