Moi_Fleur I have friends that live in Canada that used to live here. Needless to say they prefer it there, I have to agree Quebec, Canada sounds muuuuch better then the U.S.A. smile I would like to travel all around the world though but if I had to live somewhere it would either be India, France or Canada. I hope you speak French! Otherwise you'll feel like a second-class citizen in Quebec.

Aoi the Crossdresser I heard that your universal healthcare doesn't cover dental or vision, but they DO COVER MEDICAL so I COULD GET CHECKUPS IN s**t!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could be dying and I do not know it, so I guess I Have live that life until I find a job that will cover me for healthcare. So yeah, America sucks. You'd never wanna move here. In case you haven't notived, Canada has the highest voted rating so far. so yeah. IF THERE IS REALLY ANY PROBLEM THAT I HAVE CANCER OR SOMETHING I WOULD PAY MY PARENTS 200$ so I could be in their healthcare plan to cover me. To check me out. I get that until I am 26. So yeah....it just shows taht I am not independent and still rely on my parents if I can't find a stable job by the time I am 26. It'll only cover "checkups an' s**t" if you a) are lucky enough to find a general practitioner with openings (we seriously lack family doctors) b) have paid for medicare through your taxes OR through a private plan like your parents I could be dying and not know it. I haven't seen a doctor since I was 15, and that was only because of my jaw. I haven't had a checkup since I was in elementary.

It's yours. If anything you should get a lower priority of treatment for doing that s**t to yourself. I don't even have the possibility of having my own doctor. If something's wrong, you go to a random clinic or hospital and tell them your medical history if they need it. Vancouver is 3,000 miles from where I am. And in another province. Each province has slightly different rules for healthcare. But I know you have to attain Permanent Resident status and start paying taxes. It takes a few years of being here on a work visa or other special permission to become a permanent resident. You can't just drive across the border and start living and working here. They'll kick you out. You need permission to stay & work & live here. Similar rules as the US.

Then I fear that you know how ppl from Mexico are fleeing to the UNITED STATES IN stuff right now cuz of the stupid DRUg Wars happening there right now and they don't wanna die, the same will happen in a few years with the United States people will start to flee to CANADA since they have better benefits and stuff than the US cuz the US sucks right now and probably will be in a few years where many people will receive non-free healthcare here. I DONT EVEN HAVE ******** FREE HEALTHCARE!!!!!!!!! IF I HAVE CANCER I AM DOOMED TO ******** DIE!!!!!!!!!!! ITIS THAT BAD!!!!!!!!!!!! SO if our country continues to have it's bad ways and nothing happens and we continue to be stupid in stuff and continue to be in debt, FLIGHT TO CANADA WILL PROBABLY OCCUR!!!!!!!!!!! If I feel that Canada is the best place to live, I fear that 10s of millions of american will think the same way the way the american way of life is going right now. crying

But they won't get access to 'free' healthcare just because they ran across the border - you have to be a permanent resident. Sure they'd get access to our healthcare system. Which is slow. But you'll be billed for services rendered. All those Mexicans running across the border are illegal immigrants and thus don't have any of the rights afforded US residents or citizens. In international dealings, skipping the line will only get you in the door sooner. It doesn't give you any of the benefits.

Aoi the Crossdresser If I MOVED TO CANADA Right now, how long does it take for me to get free healthcare? 4 years. You'd have to start by applying for a work visa in order not to get kicked out after 6 months. Then you'd have to work here, contribute to society, and start your application to become a permanent resident. You can become a permanent resident after being here for 4 years, with vacation time outside of the country not amounting to more than a year.

You could get healthcare faster by going to University here, you'd still have to apply for the study permits and such, and pay the tuition that includes the health care plan. It's more or less free, or at the very least you get the discounts on medications and treatment. It'd realistically be no different then you paying your parents 200 for being on their plan, that's roughly the cost of healthcare. You'd just have tuition on top of that 200 dollars.

It's like you want me to die from cancer. And it'd be stupid if they kicked me out. I speak English to, it's WAY HARDER for the authories to tell I am American, where here it is EASY for the authories here to tell if you are mexican or not. Only speaking Spanish would be a dead giveaway...where Canadians speak English to and so do I and they are way too similar to the US.

Despite Aoi's craziness, this was actually a very educational post. I've entertained the thought, alot, that I would like to move to Canada, just to be further north and in a cooler climate. I had no idea about any details of what that would be like..
...and Rin, so many people here in the states believe that you guys have an abundance of free healthcare. It is nice to see your first hand experience.

Well.. usually people are smart and remember to renew their medicare card before it expires. So pretty much free healthcare if you have someone else do your taxes and you don't realize that half of what you owe in taxes is your contribution to the healthcare system. But I do my own taxes so I know this.
Also.. I was appalled when my father started getting bills from the hospital in his last months, because he was "medically stable." Yet he couldn't walk and was on a feeding tube. Because of the hospitals' negligence. I mean, it was subsidized by the government. So it was "only" about $2000 a month...
