The two strangers hadn’t moved much following their arrival. Myuto had found a nice, quiet place some ways down the beach, far enough from the pride to give the wary lions some distance but still within the pride territory itself. The sand was soft and warm, the sea air refreshing and cool, and the constant sound of the waves hissing up and down the beach was a constant comfort. Knowing they were within a pride’s territory meant that there would be no angry rogues prowling the shadows, no slavers looking to snatch them up, no starvation. Myuto had allowed Chi to tend to his injury. At first, the best she could do was lick it clean and make sure that he was keeping off of it. After some time with the alchemists, she had learned how to make a thick paste that both numbed the pain and assisted in the healing process. With some clean strips of fabric, she had kept the wound free of sand and dirt.
It had been overwhelming for the former slave. Now far from danger, she indulged in a new side of herself that Myuto suspected she was even unaware of. The lioness had played in the sand, darting after anything that moved, and returned to nap against Myuto’s broad back. He joined her once or twice for a slow walk along the shoreline, quietly enjoying and appreciating the sea and the peace it brought.
That evening, the two lions laid back to back, their heads turned upwards while they watched a few gulls circle overhead. It was the relaxation that they needed.

It was nice, Chicanery realized, just the fact she could allow herself to doze off against Myuto's large bulk and not have to be in constant state of alert. She'd never been able to sleep fully, always waking up at any minimal sound, never quite getting a good night's sleep. She'd come to think of that as normal, as something everyone went through, that there was no real safety; that it was but an illusion people spoke of.
It'd taken her a long while, granted, but she'd started to actually sleep peacefully some time after they'd arrived. There was no reason for her to fear anymore; Myuto, even injured, proved himself to be an excellent sentinel of sorts; he'd wake up if anything strange went on, and knowing that, Chi had allowed herself to put down her guard around him. That aside, the pride proved to be horribly safe. There were patrons patrolling both the inside territory as well as the border, and while people were still tense around them, still eyed them, watched them, always watching... Chi had lowered her guard around them too.
They were paranoid, but she'd decided they meant her and her companion no harm whatsoever. It was this realization that had finally allowed chicanery to calm herself down, shove down her temper and attempt to be reasonable; to make friends and be polite around the gypsies. Thanks to that, she'd been taken in by the alchemist, and she'd learned more from them than she'd ever done anyone else.
All in all, things were looking up, "Do the gulls go out to sea? Far away? Or do they stick around the shore? I mean... if they get tired, do they land on the water? And if they do... can they take off from the water?" her paw moved in the air, following one of the birds, "Sometimes, I wish I could fly. That'd be lovely. I hear the gods can do that; flying I mean."
