Callisto smiles sadly at her sister, "you and I are in complete agreement, once again." Their mother's pride and arrogance has been their downfall. She is content to have accepted this at such a young age, actually, lucky that both of them have. They can gleam some support from each other. It still leaves Callisto with a heavy heart, finding it hard to find anyway to engage in the follies of other cubs. Both her and her twin know their lot in life will be hard.
Except Manyara has a plan. And Callisto thinks it is brilliant. Of course they want everyone to be seeing for their splendor by the Great Lion, and what better way than through themselves? For the Great Lion to see them, they must be different from her, they must take on a gentler role in life. Their mother is brash, and therefore should of been punished. She pushed for things she had not earned, and they have to compensate.
Their siblings did not deserve to be looked down on by their mother, not when it was her fault they had this lot in life. "I-I want to protect them from," Callisto paused, her brows creasing, grasping for the right words to delicately phrase what she was thinking, "her scrutiny," she finally settled for. "We do not warrant any of her looks," she took the time to nuzzle her delicate twin, "especially you."
If the Great Lion still refuses to bless her, Callisto will be fine. She has lived her life thus far without his strength to help her, and she will continue to do so. She has her sister to lean on.
Future Plots: Have Callisto become the punching bag for their mother's disappointment, so the other cubs do not have to face it as much. And then Callisto will lean on Manyara to help her through the rough times.
If/when she becomes a mother herself, she'll do everything in her power to build them up to be strong confident lions/lionesses. Callisto will teach her cubs that the Great Lion shines on everyone, and therefore sees everyone, even if he missed their births. She will encourage her boys to marry for love, not for status.
