Ilarion had followed a red lioness from boredom. He was too shy to make his presence known, but he didn't think it mattered. He was sure she knew he was following her. It intrigued him more that she let him do this, not evening turning around or flicking an ear back just once. Like she was just that confident in her abilities if what he wanted wasn't just her company. Or like she didn't care either way. It was hard to tell by the way she walked which it was. It was neither tense, nor arrogant. There was confidence but it wasn't strong enough to look conceited. He wanted to get closer, to know more about the strange lioness he had seen a few times over the past few months, but he was too shy. Far too shy. He could not carry himself the way she could. She was also bigger than he.

So stay at a distance Ilarion did for what felt like a hour of following. Not once did the lioness hint that she knew he was there or not. She walked with a purpose. Like she knew where she was going. Did she have family somewhere maybe she was returning to after a day of hunting? She didn't have foot with her, nor had the walk of someone who failed to catch something. If there was blood on her anywhere, however, it was on her red pelt. Perfectly camouflaging to the life fluid.

All these new questions kept the paler lion following the other, always at a distance. Though he didn't have the same confident air or purpose the female did, what he did have was a keen eyesight. Few noticed this about him. Ilarion normally wasn't very good at many things and he was a tad clumsy in his steps. This was how he knew she must know of his presence. Twigs snapped and rocks went rolling away from him as he walked. It was a masterpiece in its own how he survived in the roguelands by himself for so long. Part of the reason he was following the lioness was in the hope she was returning to a pride. He wouldn't admit this even to himself. The roguelands were rough and he was tired of struggling in it.

The smells of others reached his nose. Many others. A mixture of lion, leopard, cheetah, and hyena. So many species all together could only mean a pride! Or a very, very strange family group.

Ilarion stopped, head shifting around at all the new smells. Soon the red lioness disappeared into the distance and he didn't realize until it was too late.

Now what?

User Image Despite her mother's abilities, Noelani always liked to watch for her return from some high rock or another. It was her perch, her roost. It was where she went when the visions became too much and it was right on the edge of the rogue lands. It was the perfect place for a busy mind to find some peace and quiet.

Noe wasn't sure if her mother was aware of this little habit and the grey lioness did not make a habit of pointing it out. Eli had never been particularly affectionate and she rarely seemed to worry about anything. It seemed like the kind of information that would leave the red lioness feeling indifferent at best and so Noe kept it all to herself.

Her head rested between her paws as she closed her eyes shut, trying to keep her mind from rolling off at all the different possibilities. Something was for certain, however, and that was that someone else was coming home with mom. Whether it was a lion, intentional, unintentional, or some other manner of creature, whether it was friendly or hostile, all Noe knew is it was coming. So when she heard the sound of familiar footsteps, steps one likely would not hear unless you had grown up listening to them, her eyes snapped open to see her mother confidently striding back into their lands, safe and sound, her usual demeanor on display.

Could her mind have been playing tricks on her again?

Lifting her head up, Noelani looked around, surveying the land. Nothing seemed out of place, really, though, wait a moment...

A lion.

Whether her mother was aware of his presence or not, the lioness could not tell but he did not seem particularly vicious. In fact, his body language seemed to display that he was unsure of something...And if he had been vicious, she was certain her mother would have handled it before bringing it to the pride. Especially with such a small male lion.

Standing up on her rock, the lioness stretched before taking a nimble leap down and approaching him. He seemed harmless but if he proved otherwise, well, her mother had taught her well.

"Hello there. Are you lost?" she called out, her voice calm as she slowly approached him, her tail swishing back and forth in a friendly fashion.

Ilarion stood his ground, not sure in which direction to go. Since he had traveled so far and was now here, he didn't feel like going back. He was here, wherever here was. May as well look around?

If only he could get his paws to work. The claws were out and dug into the dirt so far he was leaning slightly forward and in fear of falling. The claws were nearly invisible in the ground. His nerves never wanted to allow him to move forward and investigate anything unless there was no one around. He had always been such a shy lion, more tense than relaxed. He couldn't remember there ever being something from his childhood to credit for his behavior around strangers. Around those he knew he was more relaxed and willing to talk. But in order to find those he knew, he had to first talk to strangers.

It was a cruel cycle.

The lion's ears picked up someone approaching before his eyes did and he whipped them around, tail curling around one hind leg. He forced himself not to shrink back at her approach, but found the effort most difficult. He had yet to see a lion that big before, even a male. He, himself, was fairly short for a male. The lioness he had been following earlier was probably taller than he was. As were most, even if he mainly seen them from a distance.

Ears went flat in a submissive stance instead of an agressive as Ilarion spoke back. "Y-yes. I am." Though her posture and voice were not threatening to him at all, her very presence was intimidating enough. Even if she had been smaller than him.

Noelani took a moment to examine this small male in front of her. The way he stood informed her that he was uncertain. His tail coiled around his leg. It seemed almost a protective act. Self armor perhaps. Or maybe he just did not know what else to do with it. Noelani had only ever done something similar when she was nervous but the flattening of his ears informed her that he was, without a doubt, uncomfortable. He seemed like a deer realizing it is about to be taken down. He looked as if he wanted to run and yet...he was not.

Interesting.

Noelani flicked her ears as she studied him, her tail keeping up its gentle swish. No large sudden movements around this one, that was for sure. She vaguely wondered if her ears would set him off. Make him run.

She certainly did not want that.

Noe stopped where she was, allowing the skittish lion some personal space. Many of the Sikukuu were very excitable but she was a bit more reserved being a Winter child. She could understand and relate to ones need for space and comfort.

"No worries! You are in friendly territory. My name is Noelani. My pride is just a little ways that way. We have plenty to eat and water if you're hungry and thirsty. We always welcome travelers," it was a spiel she was used to spouting out and it came naturally to her. She honestly wasn't sure what else to say, "If you'd like, I can show you the way. What's your name?"
