The dark lioness made her way into the Motoujamii during the early morning light, her stride was confident and purposed. The sun was just coming over the dunes around her, but the ground was still very much cold from the night that had surrounded them only an hour before. There was a lion she had heard of, a lazy male who spent his time wandering the sands. He was part of the Firekin as she had come to learn and a child of strong, but old blood. If he knew these deserts better then some, then he would be a lion she would want in her team. Well, a team she was still forming, that is if she could even find the right lions to make it. She wasn't exactly known for being gentle, but then again, few Firekin were.
Where exactly this lion was located was an entirely different matter though. The only information she could even find led her into the desert.
Around her paws slithered two snakes, a pair, one black and one white. Both were silent aside from their bodies shifting the side into waved lines as they went. The quiet was unlike them, but even the two normally talkative snakes understood that their mistress was concentrated on her task at hand and that any words might break it. Trailing behind the two were a whole clutch of the serpents, there must have been somewhere around six following them. It was safe to assume the group of reptiles were related in some way based on the colors they all wore.

Like a huge boulder, the large white maned lion lay curled, the shimming light doing nothing for him except to keep him warm after another freezing desert night. He had no interest in being with the group, rather, he felt he wasn't truly part of it. Scowling, the great black beast quickly shot his paw out, yanking himself upward. Unlike most, he hadn't spent a lot of time continuously fighting, instead forcing his body through constantly shifting conditions and honing his ability to survive.
Twisting his body, audible cracks could soon be heard. A old habit he could not seem to break out of, even when he knew it could alert others of his location.
Tensing up for a moment, he surveyed the area, making sure he hadn't brought attention to himself. Breathing slowly, he released all the air in his lungs then filled them again. Nothing. Utter nothingness. Exactly what he was looking for...

Even in the morning light, she could pick up the signs of the male ahead of her. In the distance, against the sands, stood a dark lion, his white mane standing out against the sky. Ares' ears swiveled and pinned themselves down against her neck as the warrior lowered herself to the ground. Even with all the skill in the world, her dark pelt stood out against her surroundings. Toned muscled rippled under her dark red and black pelt as she began her approach. Quietly as she could, she scaled the small dunes of sand between there. Of course there could only be so much silence in an empty wasteland.
'Who is he?' ran through her mind as she weighed her options. He could be a spy, a member of this Nergui she heard much of. He could even be a rogue looking to steal their water or what prey there was. So far out, how could she ever consider the fact that this black blob may be the lion she had set out to search for in the first place. Maybe it was because she was new and had never seen the lion before. Maybe it was because she was afraid of what he might do instead. Maybe she should wait. For just a moment she paused, her muscled relaxed slightly as she stood there, over-thinking the situation. Should she let him go, chase him off....kill him?

...But sadly would not be graced with having as the false sense of security washed away leaving him on high alert. He could hear something in the distance. The sound of sand moving steadily towards him, this, this was exactly what he didn't want to hear. The sound of being stalked.
Tensing up, the overly-large black firekin snarled. His only warning to whomever was approaching. He didn't take kindly to being sneaked up on, nor being approached truthfully. Fari lived the desert life for reasons. He was antisocial, abrasive and generally introverted. Those he called clansmen were generally the opposite.
Waiting steadily, cornflower blue eyes blazed as he turned himself to face the noise, slowly lowering himself to the ground. He would use the ground as his base.

Proving herself a horrible guard for the very first time since joining the Firekin, Ares cursed under her breath. Something had spooked her target and now he had laid himself down, out of her view. Whatever cover she had was blown now so there was no use crouching, hiding and biding her time. It was now or never. For all she knew, he was making a run for it! With the wind in her ears and the sound of her pounding heart echoing in her head, she made he move.
Mouth open to gather extra air as well as poised to attack, she pushed herself on and up over the sands around them, onward with the intent of forcing the male to submit and explain his presence. If he hadn't known she was there, he definitely would now. The clutch of snakes as well as their parents were left in her trail as they watched their mistress climb and go over the dune ahead of them. From their angle though, they had no view on what she was even charging at. It could have been nothing, it could have been an army. Those poor snakes.

Ears perked as suddenly a lioness emerged from her hiding spot on the dune, quickly she sped towards him. Small to him, maybe average to another. It didn't so much matter to him as Fari was already brainstorming how to slow the lioness down. Pausing, he held himself tensely, awaiting launch before finally she came into perfect distance of him.
He was going to knock her off her footing.
Lurching forward, Fari quickly darted towards the unfamiliar lioness, a low rumbling growl penetrating deep below him. His body steady and unwavering as it ran directly into the lioness, he head landing under her chest where he could easily rolled her off him. He would give her one chance to prove herself, after he had her pinned.

Ares had expected some sort of a fight. To even get this far into the Firekin's lands, her opponent probably had to get passed all sorts of dangers. In fact, she probably wasn't even the first guard he had encountered in his journey inward. As she had approached, he made no mention of wanting to join so she assumed he was no rogue interested in joining the Firekin either. His head had lowered, coming in contact with her chest as she charged him. Up and over his head and then back she went. The dark red lioness landed on the sand behind his body, but managed to stumble onto her feet as she landed. A low growl rumbled in her chest and up and out of her mouth as she quickly ran towards the male, lowering her head, but instead of attempting to use his tactic, she was attempting to ram him.
The sun began to rise higher beyond the desert, illuminating their battle in the sands. Atop of the dune in front of her opponent arched Deimos and Phobos, along with all the children that remained with them and Ares, which was still most of their clutch. Seeing her work, the group lowered themselves to the ground, but all still watched. They watched the battle beneath them with interest, waiting for a cue that not one, not two, but all of them had been trained to wait for before joining Ares or any lioness they were charged to.

It was the low rumbling growl which caused Fari to quickly make a turn, nose flaring as he heaved a heavy breath. It wasn't every day that someone just attacked him, especially with being so far out of the way from everyone else. Perhaps this lioness was a intruder? Clenching his jaw at the thought, Fari swallowed. With her pelt colors and the way she moved, she could easily be mistaken for one of their own. He had to do whatever to stop her from reaching the rest of the pride. He had to stop this now. Catching her rushing at him, head lowered, Fari made a snap decision. He would use his enormous size against her own and knock her cold.
Shifting his stance to ground himself, Fari bide his time. What felt like minutes were truly only fractions of a second passing. His adrenaline high from the fight. She was nearly there now, taking a deep breath to calm himself, Fari too lowered his head.
-CRACK-
As the strange lioness made contact, Fari felt a sudden rush of pain, a pain both foreign and scary to him. Wobbling the mammoth of a lion quickly succumbed to the self-inflicted head trauma, collapsing to the sandy floor below.

She hadn't expected him to do that. She should have, but she hadn't. As their heads collided, pain went through her body. Ares' nerves tingled, her body numb for only a second and then the pain once again returned. Into the Motoujamii sands the red lioness collapsed while her snakes looked on in utter horror as their mistress fell. The growl died in her throat as her chin finally touched the sand. Her amber eyes would have glared at the male who laid on the ground near her if they hadn't shut so quickly.
'What was I thinking...' Echoed in her mind as her world and mind went black.

Fari lay there, his eyes fluttering in and out of consciousnesses. He couldn't even think really, honestly, just feel waves of pain rush over him as he succumbed to the darkness that called for him. Had he the choice he would have been dragging the lioness back to the center of the pride for questioning, but he couldn't even do that, his body proving to weak.
Falling back into the dark abyss, Fari could only think one thing, Why.
