There was something about being recognized as a warrior that made Hawnu strut a bit more than being known as a the son of the current rulers. While being related to the rulers was nice, it really didn't mean anything now that he was an adult. Hawnu wanted to impress his family and his pride with his strength and power, and being a warrior was just the thing for that. He wanted to protect his family and those who lived in these woods with every fiber of his being. He used to have a bit of a troublemaker in his youth, but he had grown out of that and it had been replaced with a fierce desire to fight and prove his worth. He didn't want his royal blood to determine his importance. Even if he had been born to a normal mother and father, he would have wanted to rise to the top. And he had! Hawnu was well-known through the pride for his mischievous streak when he was younger, so now he impressed the older lions with his strength and loyalty. There was one weakness for the large, lanky lion, and that was a pretty face. There were many females who spoke to him and he found himself tripping over his words, even if they weren't being flirtatious. It was a beautiful thing to find a soulmate, and as a big, strong lion he would be expected to make big, strong cubs. That would be hard, though, with his 'suave' way with the females. Ah well...maybe he could fight off a rouge and impress someone and not have to talk to her ever. That would work, right?

As was a typical day for the crazy lady of the pride, Mtoto had slipped away in the early hours of the morning. Her trusty satchel at her side, and the many tools she carried with her buried deep within it. She had been careful not to wake a soul as she tip toed her way out of the sleeping quarters. And even quieter not to attract attention as she slipped right past the guards. She didn't like the looks she tended to get, to be quite honest. So lurking in the shadows had become sort of ... second nature to her! But even now as she slipped back into the pride, yawning to herself she was quiet as a mouse. Her ears alert to any possible intruders or passersby. She didn't want any trouble, all she wanted was to sneak back to her hammock and sleep away the afternoon. Before she had to sneak away once more to check on her late blooming plants. It seemed as though she was going to make it too! So far, so good! Not a soul in sight, and it was noon?! What on Earth was going on around here? Looking up into the sky once more, she tried her best to focus on the sun's rays through the overhanging branches of the trees. Perhaps she had mistook the time? Or perhaps she should just watch where she was going just a little better? Right as she took her next step, she bumped into something rather large, fluffy, and stoic.

Hawnu, impressive at fighting as he was, still needed to keep his eyes and ears peeled in this, his safest place. To him, he was invincible in his home forest, walking among the trees like a shadow. But even shadows bumped in to one another, as he did with something that snuck up behind him. Real shadows would simply pass through each other and continue, but when he was touched, Hawnu's hackles raised and he turned quickly, teeth bared. No one in the pride that should be there would be moving so silently. It must be an intruder! But as soon as he caught sight of the white female, he froze. She was certainly from this pride, and he felt his heart hammer in his chest, caught by the surprised look on her face as well as her beauty. White fur was considered rare here, a sign of purity and light, and while he had seen a few with white pelts before, none were as beautiful as she. "I see you, sister," he stammered, the formal greeting coming to save his hide as he bowed his head. He focused on his toes instead of hers, this helping to clear his mind. "I'm sorry if I startled you...I didn't hear your approach." Nor had she heard his, apparently.

The poor lioness quickly began to cower at the male's sudden change in appearance. She hadn't seen his original look, but she couldn't imagine that it was anything like what she was seeing now! Her eyes became wide with terror at his large white teeth, and her tail quivered as it wrapped around her hind legs in fear. She tried to find words to say, to calm his startled appearance but there was nothing there. No words .. no gestures ... no anything. She was simply frozen in time. Which left her awful surprised by his greeting and unexpected bow. Mtoto's jaw could have fallen to the ground at his complete about face in attitude. Was this the same lion she'd bumped into? Blinking to try and clear her mind, she darted her eyes to assure herself she wasn't crazy. Yes. Same lion. "I-I see you too brother." She managed, a small bow, very unformal considering who she thought he was. "No need to apologize, I wasn't watching where I was going again! All is forgiven, as long as you can forgive me for trying to slip by you without being noticed!" She smiled cheerily, hoping he wouldn't ask her why she didn't want to be seen. Chances were he knew exactly who she was. She was no fool! The lionesses in this pride talked, and sometimes they said some cruel things! She was more than willing to bet that those cruel things had a lot to do with her lack of attraction from the opposite gender.

"Yes, of course," he said, lifting his head after a moment. Anything the lady wanted to keep her from talking to him again! But something strange stirred in Hawnu's chest, and he found himself wanting to talk to her. She was pretty, of course, but there was just...something that kept his attention on her rather than on his toes, as would be the case normally. "I'm sorry," he said again, trying to find the proper words to say. "I don't seem to know your face. I'm rather bad at knowing those in the pride." There were plenty who knew who he was, but names and faces had always been a bit hard for him to piece together. He'd certainly never seen her before and, the thought struck him, maybe she didn't recognize him either. "I'm Hawnu," he added with a very, very weak smile, his voice faltering just a bit. Show him a huge predator attacking his family and he was a vicious beast, unstoppable by any force of nature. Show him a pretty lioness and he was as docile as a lamb.

Mtoto let out a childish laugh at the male's strange mood swings. He was an attractive thing, so dark and mysterious - and those mood swings of his? Ohhh they only added to the mystery behind him! She was definitely intrigued, and if he would have her company for a bit longer, perhaps she'd be able to find out more about him. "Really? Well that's funny! Because I know exactly who you are!"She chuckled happily, finishing her statement and allowing him the honor of introducing himself. "Yes! It's just as I expected, Hawnu the Warrior prince!" She would be lying if she said she wasn't at least a little exciting to be speaking with a prince. Slinking her head and ears a bit, she lowered her voice to match it, "Oh, sorry do you not like being called a prince? Is it like a secret or something? I'm good with secrets, I have a few of my own y'know!" Offering Hawnu a wink, Mtoto pulled her body up once more with some pep in her step and bounced on her paws for a moment. "Well I can't say i'm not pleased to hear you don't know who I am! Because that would be a fib!" Pausing for just a moment she quickly picked right back up where she left off, "I'm Mtoto'wa'Dunia, but you can call me Mtoto or whatever you'd like. I've never had a nickname! But I hear they're kinds neat."

Hawnu's ears perked up as the lioness said she knew who he was. He shouldn't be surprised, really, but in this case he was glad his reputation preceded him. It was always nice to be known, and at the same time it was nice not to be bowed to excessively. Once upon greeting was more than enough, considering he himself did it as well. "Oh...no, it's no secret. But I feel as though I should be known for what I strove to become, rather than what I was born as," he said, lifting his head a bit higher and speaking more clearly. When he spoke of his passions his shyness left him and his confident, cocky attitude returned. "There are some who would use the title of prince as an excuse to grow fat and lazy with their lives. I see it as a title to be rid of and replaced with something I earned." His confidence back, he turned his attention back to the female as she gave her name. He tilted his head just a bit, frowning as he thought. The name did sound familiar...but, as was his curse, his shyness around females kept him far away from their gossip circles and he had only heard the name once or twice in passing, never a reason why it was being said behind it. "That is a very lovely name," he said, trying to keep up his confidence. "Fitting of a lovely lioness and nothing more."

"Ahhh so you are the dutiful prince are you?" She questioned with intrigue. He was on to something though, most royalty did like to sit around and get fat. There was a spark of interest at the idea of someone who didn't want to be known for his royalty. It was .. quite the abnormality. But then, who was she to definite abnormal? "Those are very respectable terms Hawnu, I do hope you're living up to them as much as you hope to." She herself had a goal that she strived to, but she never told a soul about it. Because when she did, everyone called her crazy. She wasn't crazy, and she didn't like to be called that either! it hurt her feelings dearly to know that her own pridal brother and sisters could do such harm to one of their own. "Well that's very sweet of you, but you don't have to flatter me. I know its quite the ordinary name." Curses to her having such a pale white face! Her blush would soon bleed through her pale features and onto her pretty fuzzy cheeks. "But you are too kind to say it. Thank you Hawnu!"Feeling slightly awkward and unsure of what type of compliment to give him in return, she sauntered over to him and placed a gentle peck upon his cheek. Before quick back pedaling herself back to where she was before.

Hawnu nodded very slightly, happy with his lot in life. Having been born a male he'd never inherit the title of ruler, and he was fine with that. He didn't like telling people what to do, he liked being able to settle disputes by raking his claws over someone's face to prove he was right. Words didn't come to him easily, but he did try! The thank you made him nod again, but the little nuzzle of a kiss threw him for a loop. He sat down heavily, a rather ungraceful move for a lion of his size and precision in movement, his golden eyes a bit dazed. Oh dear...how was he supposed to react to that? She kissed him! It had been a quick, sweet thing, one might give to any pride member...but she kissed him! No one had done that before! "You...um..." Hawnu swallowed heavily before trying again. "Kiss. Nice. Oh gods," he groaned, turning away from Mtoto in embarrassment.

She hadn't a clue what to expect when she'd planted the kiss upon his cheek, but the response she received was far more than she'd bargained for! Yet, that wasn't to say she wasn't pleased with the result. She watched with the same wide eyes as he plopped down heavily upon the ground. For a moment, her heart sunk in her chest. Had she done something wrong? Was he mated?! Oh gods what if he was?! She wasn't that type of lioness, but gods if she wasn't going ot be branded that way soon enough! She though of running away, going back to her plants and telling them of her stupidity. But that would have been just as stupid as having done it. Kiss.... nice? Had he really just said that? The sides of Mtoto's smile began to curl up into a laugh as she watched the embarrassed male turn his body away from her. "Hey no! Don't turn away!" She mumbled, taking the steps needed to be facing him once more. "I kinda like looking at your face ..." Again she could feel her fur growing warm and she knew her cheeks were ablaze with blush. "I'm sorry ... I sorta thought a peck on the cheek would show you I liked you..." Pausing for a moment, she facepalmed herself with her paw. "Kinda silly huh?"

Hawnu found himself face to face with Mtoto again, her smile and slightly pink cheeks making his own face heat up in embarrassment. Thankfully he had black fur, so it was impossible to tell. Her words made him look away, but just with a turn of his head rather than his whole body. "Don't apologize...I'm just...it surprised me," he said a bit gruffly, trying to get his pounding heart under control. She liked him? Like...on, you're cute, here's a kiss? That must be what she meant. They had just met, after all! But the way she said those words and the way he wanted to give her one in return made him nervous. He had heard of soulmates before, of course, but he hadn't given it any real consideration. Clearing his throat, he sat up a bit straighter, although he was still shifting from paw to paw. "So. It's okay. I'm just not the best at things like that."

"It's ok! I understand, I guess I would be surprised if someone randomly surprised me with a kiss too!" She chuckled a bit and held a paw to her lips to stifle the noise. But goodness, how she wished someone would try to steal a kiss from her. Even just once, and then if it wasn't as lovely as she imagined it - she might never request another one. But just once ... that was all she asked ... for now! As the two sat there so close to one another, Mtoto couldn't help but feel strange. There was something about this male that she couldn't put her paw on. It was something about his aura maybe? She was comfortable around him, she actually wanted to be around him. And she wondered if she would actually care if he knew that she talked to plants?! She wanted to tell him, just to see how he would react! But how to bring it up, at this point the feelings pulling her towards him were screaming to her that he wouldn't run away. But she just didn't know how to do these things! Aside from her brothers and the occassional new comer, Hawnu was the first male she'd ever talked to. But more importantly than that, Hawnu was the first male she felt drawn to. As though their 'bump' into one another hadn't been an accident at all. Perhaps the gods were pushing them together, while leaving the two of them blind to the entire affair? Ohhh how exciting that would be! But, was it truly the case? Was Hawnu feeling the same things she was? "Of course you are silly! You're the best at it in you're own way! And you're own way is the most important way, if it wasn't your own ... well, I don't think i'd know who I was talking to would I?" Her tail thumped excitedly as she spoke of him being himself, he definitely didn't seem comfortable in his own shoes sometimes. "I like the way you are Hawnu, its real y'know?! I feel like i'm seeing the true Hawnu and not some personality you put on to impress the ladies."

Hawnu kneaded the ground slightly in a nervous habit that cats of any size never really stop doing. He kept his eyes on Mtoto, although he didn't really make eye contact, rather he'd stare at her shoulder, or just beside her head, or at her nose. It was a little trick he'd picked up over the years of dealing with pretty ladies. Some of the lionesses he spoke with enough so that he was used to them, but new lionesses always caught him off guard. And if they were as pretty and as magnetic as Mtoto was...well. He was a lost cause. She didn't seem to mind his stumbling way of speaking, though. He gave her a grim grin, rolling his eyes at himself. "Oh yes. Impress the ladies." He did a good job at that by letting his tales of conquest and victory pave the way before him, so all he had to do was walk that nice, clean road. The lionesses would swoon on their own. But when they stopped to talk to him, Hawnu was lost. "I get better," he said slightly defensively after a moment, keeping his head high. That much was true. With Mtoto it might take some time to be completely normal around her, but already he was showing signs of improvement. He wasn't stammering quite as much and he could look at her body rather than avert his eyes completely. Perhaps it was that draw she had...something that made him want to keep talking to her, to impress her, to show off and make her want to stay, too. "So," he said quickly, trying to change the subject. "Why were you trying to get around without being seen?" Depawsit If you want, we can end your with your next post and carry this over into another thread >w> Two for the price of one! Just don't have her say outright what it is so the next thread can be about that.

Mtoto could still detect his awkward eye glances, though she did nothing to bring them up. She thought they were cute, but undoubtedly Hawnu only thought them rude. It would do best to keep these things from him. He already seemed like such a frail little thing around her, she didn't want to scare him away. Not ... not when she was enjoying his company so well. Which she truly was, Hawnu was a sweet guy, and there was something about him that kept her there. Instead of making her want slip back into the shadows as she so commonly did. She wasn't used to that sort of behavior, but if she was to be honest with herself, she sort of liked it. Hawnu's question shook her from her own thoughts and back into the real world. She froze in place, unsure whether her truthful answer would chase him away. She wanted to call upon her friends, and request that they root him in place. Simply so that he couldn't run! But that would only startle him more, and she didn't want that. Immediately her paws went to the earth and she began to paw at it to distract herself from her nerves. "Well, most of the others like to think im weird. So I like to hide from them, so they don't say it to my face." Still pawing at the dirt, she could feel his eyes burrowing into her shoulders, and her paws, and every other body part. It was maddening! "I - I could show you if you want ... but you have to promise you won't turn into one of them."Her words were low and mumbled, nearly inaudible. But if Hawnu had been listening, he would know exactly what she'd said. SilverLutz FIN Carrying over into next RP <3
