The days had been dragging and dragging, and the silver lion had grown restless. There was only so much one could do within the pride's borders. Chit-chat with other Stormborn, pester thralls, train… That's about all you can do. Not that there had never been good times within the pride's borders, quite the contrary! He had gathered together with friends to eat mint and sing songs, create chaos and generally break things. Yes, those had been good times.
But so many times he had heard tales from those who came back from vikings, and he longed every day to go on a journey with them. Though, of late, his thoughts were turned to the breytast vindar, and he pondered the changes that may come. It was one of his favorite celebrations- the lion felt he had always embraced change quite well. He sat perched atop a grey rock as his thoughts carried him away, wondering if his mind would give him a glimpse of what was to come. After some small time, he decided…. no such luck.pinchmonster ((You can use whoever you want with him. :3 He's a seer who wants to become a reaver, so some friends, maybe some enemies... I know you had someone who was gathering seers (though I don't think he'd be completely open about his abilities? RP will tell.) Totally up to you.))

This was Bruten's very first Breytast Vindar, and it was really very thrilling to the young reaver. There was a definite electricity on the air, a tangible voltage that thrummed throughout the pride. Thralls becoming freeborn. Reavers becoming captains. He'd heard word that his own father's position was being challenged, and it hadn't taken much digging to discover that Captain Ruzanski was the one doing the challenging. Bruten wasn't too worried. His father was a capable lion, quick to strike and ruthless, and Bruten had little doubt that his father would remain the pride's Warlord. With no destination in particular, Bruten made his way through the pride. When he came upon a lion resting atop a large rock, he paused before moving closer. Ahh, Ra'Shajirr. He didn't know the lion, really, only his name - and he knew that the lion was no reaver. It was a fact that didn't sit well with Bruten. Bruten was of a mind that any and all able-bodied males who were sound of mind should be a reaver, and males that were not were oftentimes thought of as inferior. "Someday I will kill you," Bruten greeted Ra'Shajirr, his odd eyes narrowed. Light Atago Bruten will make a good enemy, or a good friend, depending on how they get along! :B emotion_bigheart

Ra'Shajirr's amber eyes turned quickly to the lion, he had approached from Shaji's side. His pelt was unmistakably related to Njal, the current warlord, and the silver lion recognized him as Bruten. "Not today," Shaji responded, observing Bruten's narrowed eyes. He wondered if the dark lion was worried at some level for his father- Ra'Shajirr also knew of the challenge leveled against his father. Or was the narrowing of his eyes something more related to the here-and-now?
Ra'Shajirr knew that he had not had many, if any interactions with the warlord's son. Since he could associate the other lion's face with a name, he assumed that Bruten knew his name. If he needed reminding, he was sure the black lion would ask. Shaji also recognized that Bruten was a reaver, and he remembered hearing some of his personal tales from beyond the borders. "Been up to anything interesting lately? Made any new enemies?" He asked simply, not caring if the question was too personal or not, for a simple acquaintance. Something else needed to be said, he could tell. His mind was working- perhaps befriending Bruten could allow him an in for the next viking that their band went on...

"A few successful vikings," Bruten responded lightly, his stance loose. He was not worried about any sort of attack, honestly. Sometimes an amicable chitchat was wise to have when in regards to near strangers. "Three new thralls were brought in thanks to me," he continued almost flippantly. There was no reason to mention the fact that he'd actually had help on both of those vikings. He watched Shaji out of the corner of his eye. "And how is the life of a freeborn treating you?" The word freeborn was all but snarled. He sounded a little demeaning, in truth.

Bruten's life seemed much more interesting than Shaji's own, even if his arrogance was quite obvious to the silver lion. In fact, his tone made the conversation turn fast. Ra'Shajirr thought essentially the same- earn your salt or you're dirt. The reason he disliked thralls so much, they complained of their position… And also the reason he enjoyed breytast vindar so much, a chance to see if they deserve their belly-aching, or if they could prove him wrong. He rather enjoyed being proven wrong, oddly enough.
So when his own brand of thinking was turned on him, he didn't particularly care for the taste it left in his mouth. Not that this would change his own behavior, or rather, the way he thought, but it did flame the already-large fire in him. He had been old enough to force his way into a viking, he thought to himself now. All of this time, he had been waiting for an invitation, maybe it was time he just crashed the party. A revelation that he wasn't sure why he hadn't come to before. While he frankly didn't appreciate it, perhaps the condescension was the final push he needed to evoke some action.
"Sounds like fun. My life is quite miserable." He left a small pause, "miserably boring. Get togethers with friends here are fun, but they grow too predictable." He too was snarling as the words left him. Any further offering as to why he hadn't gone viking yet would simply be viewed as an excuse to him, and therefore unacceptable.
He rose to his paws and hopped smoothly down from his rock. "Tell me, how did you get pulled into your first viking?" His straight-forward questions, he hoped, would not be misinterpreted. The young adult narrowed his own eyes slightly, perhaps pushing back Bruten's demeaning tone by showing him a little bit of the drive that was sincerely behind him.

Bruten could respect a lion like Shaji so long as he knew there was something worth respecting. When the lion asked how he'd gotten into his own viking, Bruten's brows lifted. Perhaps not all freeborn lions were worthless wastes. Shaji seemed to be determined, and the snarl that rumbled from him made Bruten realize that the other lion was not completely thrilled with complacency. Bruten's mood suddenly turned, and there was a dark smile deep in his oddly-colored eyes. "I was more proactive than most," Bruten's voice was a little wicked. "I do not like the boring vikings that bring trade and prosperity. I am not saying that such things are important. I am only saying that I prefer my vikings to have... more excitement." His first viking had made the pride one thrall richer. His second viking, two thralls. It made his blood sing, seeing their fear - not that he'd ever admit such a thing. "You should become a reaver. There is much entertainment to be found."

Ra'Shajirr did appreciate the sudden change in Bruten's manner. Not everyone would accept words, tone of the voice and fire in his eyes as proof enough of his intent, but he was glad that Bruten saw his sincerity. He decided to himself that the dark lion… He had a certain sense of charisma to him also- a powerful tool if Bruten ever learned to wield it.
"I cannot imagine a boring viking, but I don't doubt that they exist," he said honestly. "After a life within the pride's borders, seems like any new sights would be extremely welcome. But I can also see what you mean, there's nothing quite like a good brawl," he said, face turning from one of seriousness to one with a troublesome glimmer in his amber eyes and a dark smirk on his muzzle.
"It seems that it would provide a more fitting life for me," he admitted to Bruten. "I'd like to get away from the flower-bloods. It's difficult for me to work my way into a band, but perhaps I should follow your lead and be more… proactive as well," he said, still smirking.

Bruten grunted softly to himself, narrowing his oddly-colored eyes as he glanced over at Shaji. Perhaps someday he would learn not to judge a book by its cover. Needless to say, Bruten was incredibly pleased by the other lion. There was a small piece of him that was reminded of Sjurd. It was not a bad thing, not by any means. "Who knows what the future will bring, then. Perhaps I will drag you along on my next viking. My captain is an old fool. He would probably not even notice an extra lion in his band, to be honest." Bruten had been contemplating his own ascent in rank. He knew he would make a fine Captain. Perhaps it was something he should give more thought to.

Ra'Shajirr couldn't help but smile a little at Bruten's words- who knows what the future will bring. He was reminded of the multiple visions he had seen come to pass, even though they very rarely made sense at the time he saw them. Most were a retrospect, reminiscent of deja vu. Not that this would be something he shared with someone… Not someone who wasn't extremely close to him, that is… Just an interesting thought.
"That would be excellent, if you feel like giving me the chance," he said honestly with a smirk. "I'm sure you and your band have loads of fun. For us, anyway. I'd love to catch myself a thrall. But… How can a captain be so out of touch with his band?" Shaji couldn't help but ask that last question. He imagined that if he was a captain of a band, he'd have a tight-knit relationship with his band members. He would hope to be part of their lives, within the pride's lands too. A tight-knit team would accomplish so much than one whose members are only loosely connected, after all…

Bruten merely grunted and flashed the other lion a rare, rare smile. It was almost jovial, and looked utterly out of place on his otherwise stoic features. "Because he is not such a captain, after all, it would seem," Bruten nearly purred, shrugging his shoulders while his tail lazily lashed behind him. "Too much mint, too many berries, and too much food leaves a Captain fat, lazy and stupid." The smile slipped away. "I will not be a Captain like that. I will be the opposite."

Bruten was a fun guy to be around. Not afraid to say it like it is to his superiors, and in a good position for the season of changes… Breytast vindar. Nothing had been announced yet, but Shaji had a feeling that it would be sometime soon. It had been a while, after all, since the seasons last changed. He could be wrong, it could be a long time off. Either way, Bruten was in a good position as a reaver to improve his position. Breytast vindar or not, honestly.
Ra'Shajirr gave a disappointed chuckle at Bruten's words. "I know of a number of captains who have become complacent with their bands. A pathetic sight," he agreed, face hardened. They gather the near-tops of the spoils from vikings, but did little work. He wondered how anyone could continue to follow such a lion into battles and dangerous situations. He, himself, would also be different if ever he held the title of Captain. It seemed too easy to let oneself become lax in their glory.
"Ahh, so you've got plans in that regard, hmm?" Ra'Shajirr asked, an interested smirk on his muzzle. "When you get your promotion, be sure to give me a chance to come along." He said certainly. He'd love a chance to prove himself, and he wanted that to be obvious to anyone who was going anywhere in their lives. Though he had hinted at it before, Shaji saw nothing wrong with being a little more direct with his wishes.

Light Atago Oh my gosh I completely forgot it was my turn in this RP, I am so sorry!! Bruten wasn't the sort to immediately form friendships with others, but there was something about Shaji that made Bruten feel a little more... amicable towards him. Perhaps it was the opinions that Shaji shared, or the eagerness with which he presented himself in regards to vikings and joining a band. Either way, Bruten gave a dip of his head. "Rest assured I will send for you." He only hoped that the other lion could stomach taking unwilling captives. "I've no intent on babysitting the herds, though - so be prepared for more lucrative vikings. Thralls, goods. Perhaps trading if we come across anything worth trading for."

Shaji couldn't help but grin a little at Bruten's words. He always imagined he would snatch up a thrall on his first viking- big dreams, he knew. However, it was only by dreaming big that you got yourself somewhere. Any creature that was kept as a thrall was worth it- Shaji had seen the usefulness of a good thrall countless times in his life. They kept pride life from being completely mundane. And if they wanted freedom, they could acheive it with hard work through the breytast vindar; to his eyes there was nothing to complain about on the front of thralls. He especially wanted a lion to keep as his own thrall, but he would have to see what opportunities awaited him on the day that he got to go viking.
Even trade sounded interesting to him, oddly enough. "About trade…" He had always wondered this little bit- "… do you ever come across someone who you could sucker into a 'bad' trade with a little muscle flexing, or is that considered bad for business…?" He asked with a small smirk. He wondered if Bruten had ever done such a thing on one of his own vikings.pinchmonster Totally fine- I know how that is XDDD Want to wrap this one up soon?

Shaji's question had Bruten laughing, a low and rusty sound. He didn't laugh often, but the question that the other lion asked him was absolutely priceless. "Absolutely. Some trades can also go wrong, leaving the other party with nothing - and a band of reavers quite rich with pelts and thralls." He'd been on a few vikings that had started off pleasant enough but had ended in a complete takeover. It was the way things worked. They were Stormborn after all, and if a trade did not seem completely beneficial, then things would be taken by force if need be. He shrugged. "I've got business to attend to, Shaji. Once I become Captain, I'll call on you - or if you find a band before that, let me know. I'm interested in viking with you."

Ra'Shajirr smiled widely, chuckling at Bruten's response. He was glad not everything went boringly and entirely diplomatically. It seemed that going on a viking would mean keeping on his toes at all times. Not entirely opposite to life within the pride's lands- you never knew when a challenger would appear and not give you the benefit of acknowledgement first- but things were serious out there. Lives and fortunes at stake made the difference.
He listened as Bruten continued before giving a nod. "Understandable- I certainly will let you know. I too am interested in viking with you, sounds like something I certainly wouldn't want to miss. Great talking to you Bruten," the grey lion said sincerely. He rose to his paws to go his own way, head full of thoughts and heart lifted somewhat- he had the frameworks of a plan to get the lifestyle he craved.
