"Could've been worse," Shika commented with a shrug. "Barely even lost anyone - and there's a few we could've stood to." Like that infuriating, useless excuse for a King, still hanging around as Noble despite his failures, and the former goddess who'd been his mate. Ooh, how she'd have loved to hear that they'd perished in the fire.
Unfortunately, that had not been the case, and she still had to bear the sight of them, always fantasizing about finally tearing into them even as she was forced to tolerate their existence.
As they approached ber favorite nook, Shika came to a halt. "Well. Here we are."

Tiana almost opened her mouth to ask how Shika could say such a horrible thing. Losing anyone in the fire was tragic, but the lioness must have held grudges. Not wanting to start a fight Tiana simply took a deep breath and almost sighed with relief when Shika stopped.
"We'll leave you to rest, try and stay off the leg and take care Shika."
It was as nice as Tiana could manage for the lioness who was rude, stubborn, and just downright difficult. She turned and started to head off, couldn't expect a friendly farewell from that female.
Naveen watched his mate turn and leave and stood for a moment before turning to Shika.
"You know Cheri, when your alone and angry even in a sea of company and happiness...it's like you aren't alive at all. Maybe you should think about what keeps you from really living unless you enjoy wandering like a lost spirit."
He shrugged and turned away from her, he'd had to at least try. The spirits had been generous to him, saving him from the rogue lands, bringing him a wonderful mate, guiding them to the swamps, and then bestowing them new names for a new life...even the drought and fire hadn't ripped them apart. Yes Naveen had a lot to be thankful for, he was just sorry he couldn't pass any of his happiness on to another.
