"It does seem to be the only good option," Ru replied lightly. "Don't worry. I'm really pretty good at this fighting stuff."
But was he good enough? Njal had beaten Aesir, and whatever the circumstances were that had allowed that to happen, it had happened. Aesir had been a powerful lion, at the height of his strength and ability. Now he was blind, if he lived at all.
"Besides, you're going to teach me to swim. Actually, I am having severe second thoughts about that. If I do lose, you may rest assured that it was on purpose, and to get out of swimming lessons." He smiled as if he was trying to show her how to make the expression.
"Come one. I'll go one more round with some poor b*****d and show you how thoroughly I'm going to beat Njal, all right?"

Gyllene was silent for a long time as she peered up at Ru. There were no other options, in her mind. He had to win. To lose... well. Gyllene forced the thought from her mind. He wouldn't lose. He would win. He'd completed a series of impossible tasks, after all. Beating Njal would be child's play.
His smile brought one of her own to her muzzle, and Gyllene finally chuckled softly. He was such a fool, but it was entirely too endearing for his own damn good.
"It does sound like something you'd do, Ru," Gyllene snorted softly, going so far as to bump her shoulder against his. There was no sense in worrying about the impending challenge. What was done was done, and what would be would be.
"Sounds like a fine time to me," she added with sincerity. Watching him fight was what she'd come to the sands for, after all, and it thrilled her that she'd be able to do so.
