Zara winced as she looked over at the male she had challenged to a duel. He had proved himself to be just as strong as most of the Firekin by their duel ending in a draw. His black and white face was bloody, though it was hard to tell on the darker fur. A thin line ran across his nose but it didn't see to bother him much.
The sun had set by that point and while a good portion of the pride was asleep, there still seemed to be a crowd that were still as busy as ever. Maybe the hunters and water-seekers, since the cooler night air was better for longer treks to find what they looked for. Zara didn't much care so she didn't ask. It wasn't her job.
The larger male trailed behind Zara, unsure of even where they were going. Every now and again his paw would slip on the sand but he would quickly right himself. He had been a member of the Firekin for nearly a month but he still hardly knew his way around the main pride. "Where are we going?" Sokoni asked, his ears flicking forward.
"Why the medical ward of course." Came a reply that was most certainly not the lioness' voice. No, it belonged to her white vulture who flew overhead, making a circle to pass in front of Sokoni for a moment as he spoke. "Where else would we get that nasty scratch of your's patched up? You'd be useless to the pride if we let that fester." The last bit came a little harsher then Kuku had originally intended it to but he didn't care much. There was no apology.
"Kuku." Zara's snapped, silver eyes narrowing up at the large bird.
"Yes?"
"Fly ahead, find Tulen and let him know we're coming."
There was no reply from Kuku as with one flap of his wide wings he moved ahead of them quickly, catching a slight breeze under his feathers to carry him towards the medical ward.

Tulen made his way slowly towards the dens at the medic ward. The days work had made him weary and he was looking forward to a good rest. Mentally he went over the various things he would need to do on the morrow, things not of any pressing concern that needed immediate attention. if he was lucky he could do when when he awoke, and if not he would have to find time through the day, assuming things did not get busy. Work was never scare in the pride, though much of it was not serious. injuries form duels to tend to, to keep any from worsening and making those involved useless. As he reached the entrance he came to a halt, the sound of wings catching his attention. It was not that uncommon for buzzards to be about, but he doubted there anything for them to pick at around here. That meant it more likely to be one within the pride. The young lion turned, eyes squinted against the dying light in search of the oncoming bird. "Kuku," Tulen called out. "Is that you?"

"Of course it's me, who else would it be? A flying monkey?" Kuku replied mockingly as he drew closer to the familiar but strangely marked lion. The vulture had landed on one of the rock walls that helped make up the medical ward, sis large white wings tucking up against him. Yellow talons scraped against rock as he shifted to get a better grip on his temporary roost. His long neck curved and if he could have, he would have grinned a large tooth grin. Too bad he had a beak that didn't allow him to do that very easily. Maybe if he had been a lion.
"You might want to clean up, momma's coming for a surprise visit." His voice was smooth, his head lowering, bobbing as he spoke.

Tulen sneered at the vulture's reply. "You're not the only corpse picker around." He replied snidely.
"So," He continued, glancing away from the vulture in search of his mother's apparent approach. "What is it my mother needs so late?" He didn't normally get random visits from her, especially not this late in the day. Sure, he was always there to help patch up any wounds suffered in duels, either to or by her, but it seemed a bit late for a duel. Knowing her though it would not surprise him if a duel was exactly the reason for the visit. It certainly wouldn't be out of place in the pride.

Kuku's feathers ruffled and fluffed slightly at the son's comment. He was a vulture, but he was proud of his job keep disease from running rampant. "She managed to catch one of her latest challengers on the face and he has a rather nasty slice on his face. I assume she's hoping you can either patch it up for her or kill him with infection; either one, but probably the first." A click of his beak and he took to the air again. "Here she comes, son of Zara."
Her head raised, watching the vulture come flying overhead. He'd be back. Tulen and Kuku had never gotten along, the two probably exchanged words and some of them had likely bruised the ego of flying stomach. Zara's fluffy cheeks shook at she turned her head back just in time to greet her son with a smile. He was larger than the last time she had seen him, maybe he had gotten that from his father. "How are you doing, son?" She called out softly, as to not wake any sleeping medic.
Wait, that was her son?! Sokoni's ears went back as he managed to make out who would be treating him just by the cream swirls on the legs and face. That was the lion who had lost to him, the one he had beaten to get into the pride in the first place. Did Firekin keep grudges? Still, he followed behind Zara. He didn't like the idea of dying from a stupid wound on his face one bit.
