They say the road paved to hell is filled with good intentions. Good intentions varied from person to person, especially when that person might have been a horsewoman. A horsewoman who had recently lost her position and was now trying to sort her life out. It wasn’t that Lan had chosen to fail abysmally at the test for nobility, it was that she just simply had. She’d failed and had no one to blame but herself. For all her efforts they had come up short and now she was nothing more than a common soldier. One who was paving the road to hell, thinking she might be helping some poor innocent horsemen.

Lan had, in her rather depressed state gone to Halloween with the intention to find something to do that would bring cheer and maybe, if shared, be enjoyed by others as well. What she had not thought, was that perhaps, adopting several dozen foxfires ‘temporarily’ was not the most brilliant of moves and she’d be the one having to take care of each and every single one. All she had been thinking was that she was sad, they were giving her the cutest, saddest little foxfire eyes from behind their cages, just begging to be adopted and given a loving home.

Adopting them, Lan reasoned, was fine. They could eat pests and if they proved to be a pest well war always wanted targets for practice and famine always needed more specimens. They could live in her yard, frolic maybe out and about- be cute and soft and just maybe bring a small joy back to her day and to the lives of other horsemen.

What Lan got, was chaos. Total and utter chaos.

In her grand idea she’d failed to account for the fact that no, these foxfires were not trained, no, these foxfires were not just going to let you pick them up to cuddle, (rather, they would bite and put up a fuss). The foxfires also were not exactly happy with the fact that Lan had tried to keep them in her yard. Almost immediately they had begun to dig their way to freedom, running off father than the noble turned soldier could catch.

Biting her lip, Lan realized her plan was both poorly thought out, she shouldn’t make plans when depressed, and that foxfires were far more sinister than she had given them credit for initially. Slightly mortified and horrified, Lan realized she’d not be able to gather the foxfires on her own, so she enlisted the help of whoever wished to. The reward? Aside from her gratitude, she would award the one who returned the most fixfires to her, dead or alive, not just silver seeds but a rather rare and exotic minipet that was prized for it’s fur- a gaiteon. She figured it was at the very least, somewhat enticing. They could do whatever they wanted with it- lan personally had been planning on making it into a nice shawl. Maybe some other pony could keep it as a pet or make it into that sawl. Not her problem.

What was Lan’s problem was the fact all her foxfires had gotten out and she needed to get them back. So much for depressed cuddling into a pile of cute fuzzy faces.

Quote:
Lan had adopted a hell of a bunch of foxfires and brought them to the horsemen tower in an attempt to combat her sadness. However foxfires are not ideal and have naturally escaped as foxfires do. They are not wearing cute festive sweaters either. But Lan needs them back, knowing they can’t just be all over the tower willy nilly. In exchange for the return of foxfires, she will be handing out various rewards. These are both IC and OoC. IC can be pretty much anything your horseman can request, (within reason). OoC there is:

Gatitoeon RE
Animal Wayward Sons (Dean)
Dragonkit Ruin
Lost Stray (Famine Heir Alt)
Inkjar Four Clans x1
Aromatic Mushrooms x200 (comes as 100 per prize)
Super aromatic mushrooms x100 (Comes as 50 per prize)

Basically, to ‘play’ your horsemen is told that foxfires have broken out, and a Conquest soldier is paying premium to see them brought back dead or alive. All you have to do is roll a simple 1d20 and ‘turn in’ that many foxfires. A running tally of how many foxfires that have been turned in will be kept- After all, who is to say some foxfires that you return really are the ones she lost? No one knows for sure.

You can roll once, and after a few days, (or like 5+ people idk how many will play), those scores become ‘tickets’ which then will be used to raffle off the winners. When you roll/turn in the foxfires you can state your prefs or just wait until I roll.

Upon returning the foxfires, no matter dead or alive or even if they’re the ones she lost or not, your horsemen is greeted by this reaction:

Her face rose and fell swiftly as you hand her those you have captured. Though she seems pleased, the fact that she is muttering about what wretched creatures foxfires are can be heard. The former noble sets them into a empty carrier which is quickly stuffed to the brim before closed. It is a bit cruel, but then she doesn’t seem in the mood to pander to the sad misleading faces of the tiny fuzz balls. “Thank you.” She says with a bow. “Please, tell me what you want”

If you want an IC reward, quote me.

OoC Reward:

“That is fine. Give me one moment and I’ll have that right out for you.”

Erintis hadn't actually ventured out of her room since the move to the new towers. It wasn't because she wasn't feeling well or anything like that but rather because it felt like home. So much of what was lost suddenly felt like it was falling back in to place.

So it was only a little comical to see the poor Conquest Horseman looking completely and utterly flustered,

"...Lan...Ar...Are you okay?"

Erintis hoped that she had remembered the name correctly she had met this particular horseman a few times. Smiling sweetly she nodded as she heard the request.

"I will see what I can do to help you out...but I am not sure how well I am going to be able to catch them."

Wandering back with a few in her arms she looked at the Horseman,

"Perhaps some of these were ones you lost?"

She smiles politely as she slowly places the foxfires down close to the horseman in hopes they wouldn't run away again. Before watching her place them in a crate, okay that was odd but at least they wouldn't run away now.

"Uhm...well there really is nothing I can think of for now. Perhaps we can talk about it later."

Erintis nods slowly as she replied hoping she didn't offend the Conquest Horseman, the last time she had a run in with Lan she wasn't sure if she had offended her that time either. She really needed to learn about the other clans a bit more.

Erintis needs all of the above XD...but on the bright side she found 19 for Lan

Salbei heard about the escaped foxfires, and was honestly, delightfully curious. They reminded him of Halloween, and he was eager to see one again; he missed the place, though he hadn't been away from it long. So, despite the apparent payment at the end, he was all for collecting the little beasts. More importantly, he knew how. He sauntered back to his own room and stayed there for a couple of hours, mixing this, that and the other thing until he had something tangible to use.

It took a couple tries of course, and a few unfortunate rodents ended up as unwilling - and soon deceased - test subjects, but in the end, he had it down pat. All he needed now was to spread it around.

It didn't take him long to do just that; all it involved was setting out small plates on the various floors, and putting a small amount of delicious smelling liquid on each. All in there were ten plates in varying degrees of visibility, but he assumed that would be enough in the long run. Traps set, all he had to do was wait. Waiting was always the best and the worst, but it was unavoidable especially in times like this...and he was patient.

An hour passed, and then two, and it became time to go collect on his little experiment.

The first dish only had one fuzzy body laying beside it, but the others were more fruitful - one of the dishes on the conquest floor had claimed ten little foxfires, which was by far the most promising trap. In total he rounded up a good seventeen foxfires, all of whom slept in a deep, almost coma-like sleep as they were shoved into a little net of a sack, to ensure that they still had more than enough access to FEAR in order to survive. When no other bodies were discovered, he moved to find the Conquest Noble they belonged to.

She had taken them with grace and a smile that seemed untruthful on her, somehow.

"I want a smile." He answered her question, reaching out a thin hand to lightly, gently tap the underside of her chin. "And perhaps a friendly date, when you are ready."

Godsdamned foxfires. And here he had thought the arpakassus were an awful bunch . . . But the idea of a reward intrigued him, and the mention of a Conquest horseman said to him that it could be rather hefty.

Shik should have known better, though. Of course Lan had shown her incompetance again. There was a solid handful of seconds in which he could have been a member of Conquest himself from the amount of judging going on in his gaze. He had half a mind to walk out of the bargain before it even began, but then a better idea occured to him: do enough work to warrant something, then let the mare wallow in the rest. It might just be petty enough to work!

So it was that the horseman took flight and made his way through the floor, somewhere between bored and annoyed as he scanned the ground below. There was a nice little herd (or pack, pack was probably a better word) by the lotus pond, and he dove once he was close enough. Call it hunting instinct. Unfortunately, hunting instinct did not equate to herding instinct, and by the time Shik had actually finished "rounding up" his catch, what should have been five foxfires ended up as being two and a half live ones.

The live half wriggled its last over his shoudlers as he returned and dropped the suitably frightened minipets off, blood dripping off his body almost casually.

"This one wanted to come home with me instead," he said with a content look, patting the now still half soothingly. Delicious snack time. "What I want is for you to stop being such a useless piece of meat, but I suppose we can't all get what we want."

Lan never wanted to deal with foxfire ever again in her entire existence. Ever.

While a sizable amount had been returned to her Lan knew not all had been taken.
Oh well. She had to reward those who had helped her.

Shik included.
