IC Timeline: A bit before Asami's cubs are born.

If everyone raised properly grew to reflect that upbringing, where did the first bully come from? Maipe's parents were respected members of society, so by all accounts, she should have turned out fine. Depending whom you asked, she had, and her flagrant displays of self-appointed authority were nothing more than a Firekin acting as Firekin did. She was burning bridges left and right, though, and the concern she paid to this fact was the bare minimum if that.

Maipe didn't know why, she was just always, always angry. Sometimes she didn't do what she did on purpose. Sometimes she just acted before she thought and, contrary to what others might have guessed, now and then she did regret it.

In the early morning, she paced along the training grounds. One could mistake it as running laps until she span around, only to walk in a straight line and do it again. Company was scarce, and those present seemed more interested in sparring with each other than what Seide's brat daughter was doing.

Elda didn't normally bother trying to engage in conversation if she could help it. Small talk was not really her strong point and even at times when the loneliness gnawed at her, it took a great deal of strength gathering to climb over the wall she had erected long ago and attempt to form sentences. Friends were a rare thing for her and though she struggled to show appreciation for those she did have, it was there.

Still, it didn't matter how tall or deep the wall of isolation was. There was a blemish there in its surface that presented itself on times like these. A blemish that bore the shape and colour of Moto'Seide; her superior and her idol - for the lack of a better word. And whilst the lioness close by was not said 'idol', she was of her blood, and that was enough to give the stocky lioness pause.

To her nescient eyes, it appeared that this daughter of Seide was troubled and Elda's loyalty suddenly had her moving towards the female - albeit tentatively - in an attempt to offer some small support.

When she was close enough that she did not need to raise her voice by much, she asked: "has something happened?"

Several occasions prior, a younger Maipe had made fun of Elda. Usually behind her back, because even froward lionesses like her knew when to toe the line. Mom wouldn't take kindly to defamation of character, let alone aimed at her tail nipper.

"Nothing you should be worrying about." How much ridicule Elda was subjected to directly correlated with how angry Maipe was with her mother at any given time. They were like one entity, but they weren't, and it was easier to be angrier at Elda. Maipe loved her mother a lot more and Seide was more intimidating to confront.

She didn't do Elda the courtesy of stopping. March, march, march.

Elda's head flinched backwards at the response and for a moment longer than was comfortable, stood and watched the pacing female. Elda had never taken a mate, never had cubs to care for and direct - not even an apprentice. Helping younger lions in the pride was a concept she understood in theory...but in practise? She was the type of lioness who did as she was told to the best of her abilities. That was a soldier's job and even if she was a sentinel now, that way of thinking was in her blood now.

"I--" the word was out of her before she really knew what she was going to say. Luckily for her, the rest of the sentence came without too much trouble.

"I train when I am in ill sorts."

Her golden eyes turned to survey the sands for anyone who might be free, and willing, to spar with the daughter of the Legate.

"I'm sure someone would be willing..."
