 The Word was spreading. Not like wildfire, but not like mud either. However, she needed it to spread faster. Oh sure, there were the two lions she'd shown the light to, but that meant there were only three against the whole of the pride. Obviously, she needed to confront more people! Besides, who really needed sleep? There were still a few people awake during the daylight hours, she just hadn't managed to find where they were yet. In the fading light of day, Nyeusi looked, as usual, like a wreck. Her wide blue eyes were bloodshot from lack of sleep, her fur was still matted and mussed, and her bone adornments clacked and clanked with every movement. Was that...yes! There was someone standing right over there! The black lioness headed over eagerly, exhaustion forgotten in the excitement of another convert. "The Word!" she called out as she approached. "Have you heard the Word?"

 A yawn escaped the red maw, as the young lioness stood waking up after a day sleeping. Ever since she was a cub, she'd done this and that and whatnot without thought. Like her father, she'd become a guard, helping to protect the pride. Like her father... She had inklings of doubt about the king.
Like her mother, she had a belief in a goddess not native to the pride - Finar-si, the Goddess of Change and the former patron of the Firekin.
So for a moment, she was confused when the dark lioness started to ask about The Word, as she wondered if one of her brothers or sisters had spoken to her about Finar-si, something their mother had discouraged, as she considered it a family matter, and that their patron god HERE was the Great Lion of the moon. Others existed, but they were to worship THIS one, here.
"The word...? About Finar-si, or...?" She looked around. Nobody else was being spoken to, so it was clearly just her. "I didn't think others here even KNEW about her!"

A look of confusion momentarily clouded Nyeusi's face, but she shook her head and the moment passed. "No, not whatever that is, the Word about the Great Lion and the King!" Her eyes shone in the growing dark with her madness.
And really, whatever it was that the red lioness had mistaken her words for, it didn't matter. She didn't know or care what it was because it had nothing to do with the message she had to spread throughout the pride.
"Tell me," she insisted, "have you heard the Word?" She didn't think that was the case, but she did want to make sure before she started the speech she hated to stop.

Feng was thoughtful. It wasn't Finar-si... At least, not specifically. But it was the Great Lion, and something about the king... "I know the Great Lion's probably not happy with the king for what he did..." This, of course, was based on what her father had told her. "I wonder if Finar-si is involved... The Firekin turned their backs on her, so what if she's conspiring with another god to set the world RIGHT?" Her dark eyes widened. "Oooooh, what if they come to punish us ALL?" She sat down, covering her mouth with her paws. She didn't want to be punished, she hadn't done anything!

"Exactly!" Nyeusi crowed in excitement. Finally, someone smart enough to know without her telling them! Well, it seemed that the red female may not have but two and two together until Nyeusi came along to help, but that wasn't nearly as important as the fact that she'd realized with little help!
"The Great Lion has turned His back on the King! And His back will remain turned for as long as the King is our King!" the black lioness paused for a breath, grinning at her companion.

Paws still over her mouth, Feng let out a gasp, eyes as wide as they'd go. "But that's not good!" She uncovered her mouth, motioning one paw at the other lioness. "Do you suppose he's working with Finar-si? I'm sure she's quite angry, too, what with the Firekin abandoning worship of her. They don't even have a proper KING anymore, or a QUEEN!" Or so her mother SAID, as passed down from her grandfather. "What do you think should be DONE about the king to make the Great Lion happy again?" It had to be SOMETHING! A pride without the favor of their patron god was surely doomed to fall to shambles!

Now Nyeusi did frown. She was able to overlook nonsense from someone else for a bit, but this was getting ridiculous. She didn't know, or care, who or what a Finar-si was. And it had no bearing on what the Great Lion chose to do.
"Look, you have to stop focusing on this Finar-si stuff. The Great Lion is what's important and He's not pleased with what the King has done with the Low class. Everyone was content before, then the King decided that because the Low class isn't blessed like the rest of us, they should do his dirty work. Now the Great Lion has withdrawn His Blessing from the rest of us!"
She wasn't going to tell anybody how to fix the problem - mostly because as crazy as she was, Nyeusi was still a nice person. But she did have a responsibility to make sure they knew about this! It was very important!

Feng let out a huff. "Finar-si's not NONESENSE, she was the patron goddess of the Firekin, before the last king's son overthrew him and changed the monarchy to a democracy." She paused. "But you are right, that's neither here nor now, and not as important to the pride."
A frown unrelated to the dismissal of Finar-si formed on her face. "If the Low Class wants the Great Lion's blessing, they should do it a DIFFERENT way, like the males marrying up in-" She suddenly stopped. An idea was forming. Her mouth opened as her eyes widened again, before she gave Nyeusi a pat on the shoulder. "I've got it... I've got it! If the king wants to take a mate, if he wants to STAY king, he'd have to take a lioness from the High Class... But if he took a mate from a LOWER class, he'd no longer be king and somebody ELSE would be appointed! There'd be no bloodshed!"

Nyeusi listened, but sshe couldn't help making a face at the silliness of talking about some other pride's beliefs.
"This isn't the Firekin, this is the Mwezi'Johari," she didn't add "and you should know that since you were born here" because she was that nice a person.
"But it's my job to make sure that everyone knows the Word about the Great Lion and how he's turned his back on the King," she continued, ignoring the references to some pagan goddess once more. "What you and everyone else do with that Word, that's what you think is right," but her eyes glinted a bit as the red lioness retold a fairly old story - and one that was close to Nyeusi's heart. After all, wasn't it her grandfather who had put aside his throne to be with his beloved?
"All I ask is that you help spread the Word to the whole pride!"

She nodded vigorously. "I'll spread it!" She stood up. "The word MUST be spread!" She'd just have to try and keep from sprinkling in some of the old information about Finar-si. Since she wasn't specifically stationed here, she took off, off to find a lion to spread the Word to.
