It was the day after a litter of thrall cubs had been given away to new masters. His master had returned home with a little white cub in tow. A young cub meant they had to change how they did things slightly to care for him. It was sad, Ashta thought, that the cub was forced away from his mother. However, a thrall had to bend to their master's will, and the master of the cub's mother hadn't wanted so many cubs underfoot. Ashta knew he and his master could give the cub a good home.

Unfortunately, Ashta couldn't do his chores efficiently and watched a cub. Today he'd wanted to clean the den and air out the furs. It had taken some subtle hints and coaxing, but eventually his master had taken the cub off to spend some time with him. The white lion then began dragging heavy furs out and giving them a good violent shake before draping them over rocks. He was relaxed now with no one his superior nearby. When his master came back he would be alert, tentative, and respectful.

Kisukari ached. She was quiet. She was...incredibly lucky that Bosvour had not killed her. She knew the rules now but she didn't like them - in fact she downright hated them, but she was trapped. She was a thrall. She was essentially skum now. How the mighty had fallen... Not that she was ever truly mighty herself. Her power had never come from her, not really. It had always come from somewhere else - someone else. It used to be her father who gave her strength - now it was her master who made her powerless.

She moved slowly - she was grateful that he had let her free. Perhaps he couldn't stand to look at her anymore. She didn't blame him. At that moment, she hated him though. Her pain made her angry, but she ached so much she just felt powerless.

She groaned slightly and walked through the dens - no goal in mind just grateful for being out of Bousvors den.

He had finished brushing out a fine thick pelt with his paws when a groan reached his ears. The voice hadn't sounded like his master or his cub thrall. Thus he had to be careful. Ashta turned his body slowly until he could glance out of the corner of his eye. He was definitely surprised to see the thrall who'd angered her master at the giving away of the cubs. If he'd been bad, his master would never have let him wander around alone, sore or not.

It was the way she moved that informed him she was still suffering the effects of her discipline. The white male debated with himself. She was a thrall like him, but she also had a fairly dark pelt. He could extend the offer at least. Maybe she could use someone to talk to right now. Ashta shifted and walked slowly toward her, holding his body slightly below hers mainly out of habit.

"Excuse me. Would you care to sit by this den while I work?" It was the best he could offer right now. With his master gone, he didn't want to invite a strange female in. And she looked like she should be sitting, not walking around.

Her head throbbed painfully, so much so that she almost didn't notice the male lingering nearby. She blinked, waiting for her vision to clear slightly (that wasn't a good sign, was it?) before focusing on the male. Oh. He was a thrall too. She knew that much. He had been at the cub give-away. She flushed beneath her fur, knowing he would have seen her be punished.

She had been trying to help though. Surely it wasn't so bad, getting punished for helping.

"I can stand," she murmured softly."What are you doing?" Maybe talking would get her mind off everything.

Ashta did his, probably funny, sideways look again. She didn't look like she could stand, but he wasn't going to argue with her. She'd probably sit when she was good and ready. Instead, he moved back over to the fur and worked on it some more.

"I am airing the pelts so they don't smell," he replied softly. And cleaning the den, but he'd do that after he finished with the pelts. He made sure the fur was well spread out and in the sun. It'd smell fresh when he brought it in. "One moment." The white male ducked back inside then returned pulling another pelt. Again he laid it out and started brushing it.

She blinked slowly, sluggishly, as she watched him air the furs. She didn't speak until he had come out again with the next one. "Do you do this often?"

Maybe she should air the furs in their den. It smelt like Reaver in there, though she hadn't been too fussy about it yet. Mostly because she hated to clean, and therefore why would she put herself through that? Cleaning up for a male, pffft. Though she wasn't sure if she was welcome in that den again now. Bousvor would not be cruel to her; he wasn't the type, but she had betrayed him now. She wasn't sure what that truly meant.

He worked in quite for some time before the dark female spoke up again. "Often enough so the furs don't start to smell. If I don't they need to be thrown out or they stink up the den." Ashta kept his voice soft. He didn't think she'd harm him, and he knew Phosphor would be furious if he got hurt by a thrall. She was already in the poo with her master; she didn't need a demon too.

Ashta glanced at her briefly. He was trying to figure out a way to talk to her without seeming... Rude? Nosy? Something. He couldn't think of any good way to start. "You felt bad for those cubs?"

She nodded, careful not to move her head too quickly - she wasn't sure if she would get dizzy again, but she dare not risk it. Not in the presence of a stranger. Not that this male seemed threatening; Kisukari was sure she would be able to take him on. It was a cocky thought that would most likely not turn out how she wanted it to.

She was surprised at the change of conversation, blinking and turning her deep green eyes to look at him, a look of confusion on her face. "How could I not? They are just...born into this. This is all they will ever know." She didn't think she could bare that. Bousvor had been good to her (mostly) but what kept her going was the memories of her childhood; the freedom she felt and the strength she had found for herself. Relying on a master her entire life...she wouldn't be the woman that she was. She was sure some would prefer that, but for Kisukari, she wouldn't change it.

By her words he could tell she'd lead a charmed life before coming here. Perhaps she still felt she was living that life, which was why she'd gotten into trouble in the first place. Ashta finally looked at her, but no higher than her chest, with sympathy.

"I see you do not understand." He had done enough work, he could take a small break now. The white male settled himself to sit and curled his tail around his feet; a habit from a long time ago when a demon would purposely step on an outstretched tail.

"Please do not take offense to what I am about to say." He hoped she'd keep a level head and listen to him. "You need to understand the ways of where you are living. The way you went about it, as you found out, was not the correct way to try to help. Yes, they are born into this. Yes, they will know nothing else, but they will also be content for they know no other way."

Ashta sat quietly a moment watching her. His voice was soft when he spoke next, "the masters here are much... nicer, than my old pride." The white male didn't show it, but he had scars he could show her.

Sorry this tag took me so long!! <3

She felt insulted when he said that she didn't understand, but it was the truth. She didn't understand. She honestly had no idea why the pride thought that this was all normal; it was so wrong.

"These masters are nicer?" Kisukari asked, sounding horrified. "Why are people so cruel?" She whispered, feeling shocked. "I suppose I lived such a peaceful life before coming to this pride. I was never treated badly." This was the first time she had ever really been hit as well, she had never been physically punished like that.

"How do I help without hurting everyone involved?" She asked him, feeling rather lost.

He tilted his head as she asked such an innocent question. "Why do some have more power than others? It's just the way it is. You may either go with it or try to swim against it. You've seen the results if you try to go against it haven't you?" Ashta felt sorry that she was having to learn the lesson in such a hard way.

The pale male smiled at her determination. "You can talk to your master if you think it's a cause he'd be interested in and get him to help you. Or make friends among the thralls. Help them how you can without angering the reavers." With luck, she'd learn to be a bit more subtle in her efforts than she was that day. Ashta felt she was a caring lioness deep down. "I must get back to work. Good day Kisukari."
