Anika was patrolling the borders tonight. Her eyes were peeled for rogues wanting entry or looking for a fight. She now had more at stake here in the pride, he cubs were living her as well as Umeko's.
Anika tried to shake the thoughts of her cubs from her head, she wasn't exactly the warm and cuddly type but it was distraction to think of the cubs when she was suppose to be thinking about fighting off intruders.
Scanning the borders she paced back and forth hoping that she would get a good fight or two in tonight.

Davke had lingered on the edges of the pride after her last defeat. She was beaten but she hadn't given up, the spirits had led her here and this was where she intended to make her home. Or her final resting place, as the case may be. The wounds on her back ached but they were no lethal threat, she had packed them deep with herbal salves to stave off infection and ease the burn.
Her green eyes lit on another that seemed to be patrolling, this one much smaller than the first lion she had encountered on this land. A female, perhaps she'd be more evenly matched. She was no fighter, but she could scrap out long enough to survive. With a deep breath inward and a silent prayer to the spirits she chewed down a mouthful of herbs to numb the pain of her injuries and took a step toward the lioness. "You are one born of Storm, are you not?"

The black lioness moved towards the brown female with the green markings. "Yes this is my home." she answered. She was eyeing the female, she could tell that the other female had clearly fought recently, a wound on her back. Clearly the female had tried to gain entry and failed. Made no difference to Anika though she would fight the female as if there was no wound, she had to prove her worth injured or not.
"I take it that you are looking to gain entry to our pride?" Anika asked before she really waited for an answer Anika charged, she wanted to take the female off guard it was one thing to be able to defend yourself when you knew the attack was coming. A while other to be able to do it when you were surprised. She was aiming for the other lioness' right shoulder as she went.

Savage creatures, the spirits had not warned her sufficiently. Davke rolled as the lioness connected with her shoulder, tucking her back legs in tight before she shoved them forward in a powerful rabbit kick. The gravel stung as it dug into the wound but with the anesthetic running through her veins she was able to shrug it off. it would need care later on, that much was obvious.
"I am sent here by spirits, I must remain," she grumbled as she tried to right herself. The herbalist had planned ahead this time, soaking her foreclaws in a mixture of urushiol and tar, a mixture sure to cause an awful itching sensation wherever it broke the skin.

Anika had to admit she was somewhat impressed about how well the female took the blow. It was both a plus and a negative though, she had taken the blow well, but she had failed to dodge it. Anika smiled and turned to face the female again.
She was a little confused about the ramblings of the other female, something about the spirits. Sure Anika knew of gods, heck her cubs had been sired by a god, but spirits? Anika wasn't so sure about those.
"What is your name?" she asked flatly, Anika liked to know the name of those she fought. She didn't offer hers up, the female would be allowed to know it if she were successful in beating Anika.
The dark female stood waiting, to see what type of attack the other one might try to deliver.

"Davke, of the Pepeporojo, long since dead to dust," the lioness rasped, her voice tight when she spoke the name of her former home. She had been born and raised there, it had pained her to see it fall. But whatever the gods willed was what had come to pass, and she needed only to accept it and adapt. They had willed her here, in her dreams, haunted by spirits of those who could have been saved, those who could have been born. She needed to be here.
It was with that passion that she backed her next strike, launching herself into the air as she struck down toward the dark female's side with her tainted claws. It was a crass ritual, but one of the place she hoped to call home. That was, if she lasted long enough. The anesthetic was not nearly so powerful as she had hoped as she felt one of the wounds tear open, blood seeping down her coat.

Anika let out a small yelp out as the brown females claws met her skin. She bowed her head down muttering all sorts of curse words slip from her mouth. She was thankful that she had been watching this part of the border on her own she would be embarrassed to have the other Reavers see her take such a blow from a rogue that seemed mildly crazy in Anika's opinion.
Collecting herself quickly Anika lifted her paw to make a swiping pass at the females side, the old wounds were already bleeding and had Anika been smarted she would have dug into those, it would have crippled the female more instead she swiped, at the female side that was already bleeding. It would cause scaring but it would hurt if Anika made contact.

Davke growled as she felt Anika's claws rake down her side. Not nearly so deep as the wounds on her back, but wounds open to infection all the same. A lot of care would need to be taken, fortunately enough she had smelled salt water close by.
The little lioness tucked herself into a ball, allowing her blooded back to connect with the ground as she tumbled out of the way. A bright flash rose up behind her eyes but she stifled the scream, turning her ire instead into a snarling bite as she pushed herself along the ground toward the female's belly.

The blow knocked the wind out of Anika as she crumpled to the ground. Nothing was worse then having your belly struck. "Damn it she muttered under her breath." she rose to her feet and offered the brown female a nod.
"The name is Anika... welcome to your new home." she said stepping askide so that she was no longer between the brown lioness and her new home. It killed Anika to be letting another rogue into the pride, but she knew it was good for the pride, kept their bloodlines diluted. Plus technically speaking this female had earned her place, though Anika questioned if it was just a lucky outcome.
She made a mental note to train a little harder tomorrow. She didn't want to be beat again anytime soon.

Davke rolled out of the way and came to her feet huffing, her muscles shivering beneath her bloodied coat. She was prepared for another round, but then the lioness spoke. Anika, she would remember that name. "Home," she mouthed, wavering on her feet, "I am home."
It had been a long time since she had understood the meaning of that word, even in her homeland she had felt like an outsider. In time, perhaps, she would build her own family here. "I thank you, Anika, for showing the way," she stuttered, trying to limit the chattering of her teeth, "It is an honor to tend to any wounds, anytime you may need."
She accepted that the lioness may not accept her offer, but she felt she must make it in good faith.
