Carter has been described as offputting, whether isn't for his unusually chipper attitude or his frequent mood swings. There aren't many Psychologists in Johto, but the few that Carter was put through agree that the boy suffers from... Nothing, really. He's perfectly fine. Anyone who's had the pleasure (not) of knowing him believes otherwise. When Carter first chances upon a new person, he acts perfectly fine and is percieved as such. But, once he and that person actually hold each other as friends he acts a little weird and his true personality shines through. One moment he can be normal, and act as a normal teenage boy should, but the next he shows signs of extremely vicious behavior. None of the physical type, but during these odd mood swings he takes pleasure in bringing other people down and being overly cocky. He delights in the shedding of tears. So, I guess, Carter is the perfect example of the clash of yin and yang (the light and the dark).

history

Carter was born to two teenage sweethearts: Mary and Stewart Ai. All seemed well, until Mary became pregnant and Stewart decided he couldn't handle a child at his age. Devastated, Mary quickly moved to Ecruteak from her hometown of Goldenrod, hoping the history-rich town would be a perfect place to raise her child, and it was. Carter grew up to be a strong and lively child, believing that his mom was like a bacteria and reproduced asexually, he just magically popped out of her stomach one day. Isn't it funny how kids' minds work? Carter thought of insane explanations like this throughout his childhood. When he emerged into his teenage years, he enjoyed flirting with the Kimono Girls and messing
with the Sages in Bell Tower, both of which got him in trouble almost every day. No one really minded him though, they actually enjoyed Carter's prescence, he was like that.

Not all was well though, his mother harboured a secret sadness within herself, and one day Carter came home to find he had no mother. Devastated, he fell into a depression himself for a few years after that, worrying everyone. Whatever anyone did, they could not bring him out of the Gym, where he was living now thanks to the kindness of Morty. Eventually, Morty told him he either had to get up and train, or he would kick him out. That way, Carter was unvoluntarily pulled out of his sad mind and kicked back into being productive, which helped a little. Though, Carter never really got rid of one shadowy corner of his brain, the result of his personality. After helping out in Ecruteak City's Gym for a couple years, Carter decided he needed a change of scenery, hearing about this Snagem thing.
