The falter had her giggling against the warm press of his mouth, and she set teeth into his lower lip in a soft nibble before sinking back into the kiss, moving to straddle his lap as she pressed in closer to him. Her nails were a tickling brush against the back of his scalp, following the downward curve until she was wrapping her arms around his neck and shoulders.
His voice in her head was every bit the deep baritone rumble it was to her ears, and she shivered, stilling momentarily, before the question made her smile. It's a recent development. I wanted to surprise you. Delicate fingers ghosted along the edge of his jaw, and now she'd draw back, breathless, to see his face.
The bud of her thumb smoothed over the scars on his cheek, tracing one thick line adoringly. "You are mine, and I am yours." They had come so far together, been through so much. The task, the cave, it had mended the fissure in their bond and made them so much stronger. For as awful as their time apart had been, it made them appreciate each other so much more.

A surprise indeed, but one he fully appreciated. It opened up new doors, new possibilities for them. They would be the perfect team, united without giving away their positions, able to stand together at meetings as a single force without giving away that they were discussing everything. Not that she'd need to discuss much with him, but she could let him know her thoughts.
"Always," he murmured. It was true now, he was seeing it that way. He had faced loss before, and he wouldn't allow it again. He was stronger now.
But for now they had other concerns, and mentally he sent her his thoughts, seeking her approval. Thoughts of his priestess being worshiped with his mouth while he spoke to her with his mind.
The food could wait a while longer.
