Bored.
An orange gaze stared across the bleak expanse of land. He had just had his fill of a good meal, and quite frankly, didn’t want to expend any more effort at the moment. His eyes blinked closed once, before opening again. The issue was, he couldn’t exactly get to sleep. His mind was ready to shut down but there seemed to be fire within his legs, wanting to do something with himself.
Otieno stretched his paws, letting out a mighty yawn. What he needed right now wasn’t a nap; it was a fight, a squabble to pass the time and exhaust his body. Lying down and doing nothing was boring to him. It wasn’t lucrative. He didn’t leave his den for just a snack.
Another hyena caught his attention. And so, he went towards them, bravado giving him a jaunty step. There was no one else around. Surely, he could initiate a skirmish somehow.

 Krieg flicked her tail to get rid of a few curious flies that wouldn't leave her alone. She hated coming out to the rogue lands just for that reason: the flies were killer. She snapped her jaws irritably at a little swarm, watching as they buzzed off to bother someone else. Good. She had a mission to focus on.
It was sort of a silly mission if she had to be honest: go into the rogue lands, see if there were any rogues or prides that were getting too close, and determine if they were a threat or not. It seemed like busy work to her, but she also knew that idle paws were never good to have, so she had accepted the task. Now she had to wander around the pride for a few days, and so far she hadn't run into anyone or anything living. A few carcasses here and there had kept her stomach full, and the flies, while annoying, were her only company.
That is until another hyena trotted into view. She stopped and stared at him for a few moments, trying to place his markings, but nothing came to mind. He wasn't Nergui, then. Teeth bared just a bit, she barked out a warning.
"You there! Are you a rogue or from a pack?"

Oh, she had noticed him. A slow assured smirk tugged at Oteino’s lips. She was an alert one. Good. She didn’t intimidate him in the least, either. She may be tense, ready for a fight, but so was he. And he, for one, had no qualms not going easy on a female. Chivalry was not his forte.
He made a show of thinking about it, tilting his head and letting out a low laugh. ”Me? his head went slowly towards the other side, ears folded back, ”Does it matter? You have no need to fear, I am alone.” he stepped closer, eyes sweeping past her form and behind her. He didn’t smell any other foreign scents. It didn’t seem like she had any other companions. However; one could never be too sure. He wanted a fair match, not one to go against a crowd without help. Oteino much preferred when the odds were stacked in his favor. ”Are you with anyone else?”

Krieg kept her teeth bared as the male spoke. Yes, of course it mattered, but she wasn't going to let him know that. She could take him on one-on-one, but if there were more around she knew she'd have to fall back, as painful as it was to think about. His words didn't comfort her in the slightest. Her father had always told her to never let her guard down when around strangers, although he was always far more pleasant about it. She had gotten her mother's temperament, to be sure.
"I may be or I may not be. I doesn't concern you," she said. While she didn't have anyone ready to fight beside her, she was still within hearing distance of the Nergui. If a bad fight were to break out she could call for assistance and someone would come running. Still, the more she looked at the male the more she began to realize he was alone. There were no other scents on the air or on him, the only recognizable smell the distant scent of the Nergui.
"What brings you here then?" she asked, letting her snarl fall away. although her eyes were still intent and brows furrowed. "You're nearly treading in my pack's lands, stranger. We don't take kindly to those who think they own the place."
