Biography___________________________________ Bunny was born into a life of wealth and privilege. What wealth and privilege amount to in the world today. Her father was on the council at MetroPlex, and her mother was a leading scientist at LabCorp. She never wanted for food, water, clothing, or any of the necessities of life. Whenever MetroPlex came under siege she was spirited to a safe place with the other families of the council and then she got a taste of doing without, but eventually the all-clear was sounded and life returned to normal. Her life was protected, secure, closed. She was educated with the other children of the lucky few and had many friends. They were taught that one day they would take over the reins of power.
Then it happened. That day. The day that changed her life forever. Her mother had been experimenting on two captured savants in her laboratory on the outskirts of the enclosure, which for security purposes had no direct entry into MetroPlex. This meant her mother had to take an armed escort outside a short distance outside to a separate enclosre…they could not risk zombies being housed inside the human area. While hunched over her desk, distracted, the new man hired to clean the lab silently released her 2 captive savants…he was a dilettante but as no one had any experience with them, they thought he was human! She heard the clanking of buckles hitting metal tables and jumped up, screamed, and ran, but not before she was bitten. She had been injecting herself with synthetic mutations secretly which, as they were not live biological strains, she hoped to eventually use on others one day to see if they were effective vaccinations. As she ran, bitten, a hail of bullets behind her as the 3 zombies fell thanks to the quick action of guards, she felt hot, sick and fainted. When she awoke 4 days later, strapped to a table in her own laboratory, her assistant was standing over her. She *had* turned, but only just slightly, ever so slightly…they told her she appeared to be a slow turning mutation. Her formula did have some effect after all…
Bunny was devastated. Her father was furious. He secretly had the man who hired the cleaner shot. Bunny overheard this and was glad of it. She pleaded with her father for days to tell her everything that happened, and he eventually caved in and gave her the gory details. She became resolute. Her mother was still alive and had a mutation in her system! Was it possible to turn her back? Her father said no, once a zombie, that’s it, you’re dead, living dead, but dead. Bunny could not accept this. She was only 12 but she knew there had to be a chance. If her mother was a slow-turner, maybe if they found a cure quickly she could be saved. She begged and begged for copies of her mother’s research. “It fills filing cabinets!” her father shouted. Forget it. It’s over. They cried together and went their separate ways.
They went their separate ways for years. Bunny never forgot her mother, or her filing cabinets full of research, or the breakthrough that slowed her turning so much that it was years before her mother became a fully fledged savant. She had poured her anger and love into her studies, determined to follow in her mother’s footsteps and find a vaccination that would eventually wipe the scourge from the face of the planet. Thanks to her father’s position she was granted access to the LabCorp program, and became an assistant working in the same research laboratory that her mother started. She had access to all her mother’s work and all the work since. She was in her element.
Her father died just before her 28th birthday, but not before she was promoted to full research scientist. She is the #3 person in the LabCorp Preventative Research Facility. LabCorp is huge, of course, and to be #3 in one smallish facility isn’t as big a deal as it sounds, but it’s a big deal to Bunny because it hits close to home. She continues to search for a way to fight the zombie virus, putting in long days and nights, sacrificing love and family to save humanity.
