[PRP] Want More? (Amaranta x Arcus)

Amaranta stretched and let out a yawn. The law speaker had been finding that had more time to herself as of late. Her children were fully grown now, a second litter she had raised. She couldn't be prouder of them. They had all done well as apprentices and now they had each filled into a roll in the pride doing a great job.

The more she thought about her amazing children the more she realized that just maybe she wanted more. The colony had no young in it at the moment her litter be the most recent and now they were adults. She hoped that they as well as the litter that came before them would start having families of their own. But even if they did Amaranta knew that she wanted to have at least one more litter. The problem was she wasn't exactly sure how to bring up the topic with Arcus.

She loved the male with all of her heart but he was a stern sort... not one that exactly the type to express emotions. She knew that he loved their young though and she hoped that he would be willing to have another litter with her. With this in mind she rose to her feet and went on the search for her mate.

Arcus had been training, as he often was these days. Ever since he had sided with Deker, he had taken responsibility for most of the pride's defence. He didn't want to back the removal of the council, only to open up the pride to an attack. He had been working long hours, but he knew Amaranta would understand. When the attack had been just fresh, he had taught the basics of defending one-self to his mate and his cubs. He hated doing it, because he never wanted to think of them in battle, but it was necessary. He had to protect them.

He was taking a break when Amaranta found him. He offered her one of his rare smiles; he did not give them out easily, and often they were few and far between, but there was something about his mate that worked them out of him a lot more readily.

"What brings you out?" He asked her, forgoing the usual 'cutesy' name couples seemed to have for one another. He just wasn't that sort.

Amaranta smiled when she saw her mate, and was even happier when she saw a smile pass along his lips. She knew that Arcus wasn't the warm and cuddly sort. She was pleased that she could bring out the softer side in him. She was also happy to see that she hadn't interrupted his training session. She would have stayed in the background till he was done.

"I came out to see you." She said as she came forward and gave him a quick nuzzle. Amaranta liked the physical contact but she knew that it wasn't his cup of tea so she kept it short and sweet.

"I have been thinking." Amaranta told him. Dangerous words when coming from any female. She had a sly smile on her face. She wasn't sure how the proposal would go but they were still young leopards it wasn't unreasonable for them to want to have another litter... or maybe even two.

Arcus enjoyed the small nuzzle that his mate offered him, but he was grateful that he it was short. He was not a fan of public affection, though he did not mind if it was privately done...or if it was short. He was grateful that she seemed to understand his reluctance.

"That is dangerous," he responded with a wry smirk. "What devious plan have you concocted now? And do I need to warn the colony?" It was a poor joke, but that was essentially all that Arcus knew how to do. There was many days that Arcus wondered why his mate stayed with him. He was not a particularly charming male, but Amaranta seemed to find something charming about him...at least enough to stay.

Amaranta chuckled at Arcus' joke. Some may have found it to be in poor taste but not her. It was an odd relationship she and Arcus had so different from the one she shared with her mate before him. With Arcus it was as if they were two individuals who fit so well together in their own odd little way, where as the mate she had before they were so interdependent that at times it was hard to tell where one ended and the other began. Having experienced both relationships she could say with out a doubt that she vastly preferred the one that she had with Arcus. With Arcus she was allowed to be her own person something she had never been able to experience before.

"No warnings necessary. In fact I think the colony would be happy about this." she said giving him a wink. "I was thinking that now our cubs are fully grown its time we visit the idea of having more." she was worried about this conversation because their last litter had come as a bit of a surprise. It was a welcomed surprise but they had never actually discussed having children before they were on their way. She tried to watch his eyes knowing that they would tell her exactly how he felt about the idea.

Arcus looked amused at her wink, but the amusement faded from his eyes at her next comment, his pale eyes darkening. More cubs? He loved his family; though he had not been expecting to have cubs, he had welcomed their presence in his life and he loved them...but more? He had no issue with the physical act of raising the cubs, but... "What about the unrest in the colony?" He asked her seriously.

He wasn't the type to rush into decisions, he wanted to consider all the options. The colony was in a heightened state of defence, terrified of the idea of another attack, or that something worse would happen to them. Could they bring cubs into such a turbulent time?

He wanted to grow his family, but he wouldn't put them at risk.

She had realized it but she had been holding her breath from the moment she said the words till Arcus responded. Finally Amaranta let out her breath. His response wasn't an unreasonable one but it was not exactly what Amaranta had been hoping for. How could she respond to it, tell him not to worry about it, his job was to worry about it.

"Well the unrest is getting better. You yourself have done so much for the pride in terms of training and I am sure that soon Council Deker will hold the proper meeting to elect the other members of council back so we have a full leadership team." Amaranta wasn't actually sure of this but as a law speaker in the pride she knew that soon Deker would have no reason not to hold the elections, soon the colony would demand it.

"Plus it has been so long since the colony has had a litter, ours was the last and they are all adults now. If we all stop reproducing then there won't be a colony here for much longer." Sure there numbers had increased a bit from rouges joining them but it was not the same as having a litter of cubs come into the colony. Cubs were a joyous thing and the colony certainly needed to be having more.

Arcus listened to her words with open ears, knowing that it wasn't unreasonable for his mate to want more cubs. They were still young, and to be honest, he liked the idea of expanding their family, giving their older cubs someone to look out for. He knew they would be well protected, as their first litter was now adults and now working hard for the pride...maybe they could afford to have another litter.

"I will have to teach them to fight," he said honestly, knowing Amaranta would pick up on the lack of 'if we have cubs' at the start of his statement. He would give her cubs, if she wanted them, and he knew that he would love them with all the love he could muster. By the time the cubs came, the pride might have a full council again, and Arcus could sleep easier knowing his cubs were in the paws of many, not just one.

Arcus liked Council Deker (well, as much as Arcus could tolerate another person), but he was uncomfortable that he was the only leader currently.

Amaranta beamed with excitement. She definitely picked up on the fact that he didn't add an if to the beginning of his sentence. "I would expect nothing else of you." she told her mate. Her smile was large and she resisted the urge to give him a full on cuddle, she would save it for later on when they were in the privacy of their own den, that they actually had to themselves now that all the cubs had grown.

She looked around and noticed there was a collection of leopards coming, "Looks like your next training group is coming. I should leave you to this. We can pick this up tonight when you get back to then den." she told him. Before she quickly excused herself, giving each of the leopards coming a quick nod as she made her departure.

Arcus was pleased that he was able to make his mate happy; something that he found it hard to figure out how to do. He wasn't a romantic sort, but agreeing to have another litter seemed to honestly make her happy. It did appear to be the little things in life that made her happy.

"I will see you tonight," he said, giving her a curt nod as he noticed his next group approaching. He would rather die than show affection in front of the people he was training, as it showed weakness and he could not afford that. It was better that people thought he and Amaranta were a weird couple who were not that close, because that protected her from being used against him. He wanted to do anything he could to save his mate and his cubs from hardship, and now with the plan of a new litter, he would double his efforts to make sure nothing bad happened to them. Ever.
