Svana had been looking forward to the festival for days. Having attained her goal of becoming a reaver at adolescence, the young female had sought out every possible chance at furthering her battle skills. She was now part of captain Lucivar’s reaver band, had been out on several Vikings and earned her first serious scars in a ferocious battle with a deranged leopard. She had sparred with every reaver willing to take her on and had increased the intensity of her regular training with her brother Kekäle. But this was a whole new trial and Svana couldn’t wait to test herself against some of the pride’s very best fighters.
Arriving at the fighting area she paused, studying the reaver that would be her opponent. The distinctive mask and fur cover instantly told her just who this was, though she didn’t know the female in person she knew who she was. Grinning Svana advanced into the ring, excitement making her fur ripple along her shoulders.
“It is a good day to die.” And because she rarely got the chance to meet experienced reavers like this she added. “May the gods guide our paws today.”

Many simply knew her as SMM, her ridiculously long name meant pretty much everyone shortened it, mainly because shouting out all of those words when out reaving or in battle was time consuming. She didn't mind, far from it she found it quite amusing that her name could be made so short. Of course her mother found it amusing too, she had given her the long name for no other reason than, because she could, and when she had grown to be massive like her mother, she had filled in to her large name. She had been out on a few reavings, with and without her mother, she had even made a few trips alone with only her scout bird as a companion. She appreciated her flying colleague and she glanced at the trees on the side lines to check that Gyps was watching. Turning her attention to the other female she lowers her head in a brief bow, "Odin bless this battle." She smiles beneath her furred mask and starts to circle. She knew the other female by looks only, she was young, which would make her fast. SMM had always been a brawler, she simply had to get the other female within reach and her powerful body would take over but the distance between them would be her disadvantage.

As the older female started to circle, Svana matched her, keeping the full width of the arena between them as she narrowed her eyes, focusing on the way the muscular lioness moved. Suddenly with no warning or sound Svana launched herself across the dusty ground, claws safely sheathed, twisting to the side and expertly sliding under any attempt to block, paw impacting hard against her opponent’s soft underbelly. Quick as a flash she sprang up and leaped away, her sleek body twisting like a serval in midair to land out of reach.
Such fighting was her speciality, which she had employed successfully with her brother since they were adolescents. She spent almost as much time airborn as most lions did on the ground during battle. Her natural agility heightened by constant training. It was this unique skill she used now, well aware that the other female outranked her in strength and reach. It would be her own agility and speed that won her the match.

The larger lioness chuckled lightly as the light female got her in the stomach. She knew this was the way this fight would go so she weighed her options. She wouldn't be fast enough to get her, she wouldn't be able to capture the slender girl so she would just have to have some fun with this. The match she knew was already over.
The chocolate female lowers herself to the ground, her hind and forequarters moved as if she were about to pounce her paws shifting the loose soil around, she waited, the next pounce she would protect her belly. She moved the sand around her paws, ready to throw the sand, it probably wouldn't work but a moment of blindness would at least grant her the opportunity to land a hit, and usually, it only took one hit.

The sudden move made Svana pause as SMM virtually crouched down into the sand. Her head came up as she blinked quizzically at the older lioness. No one had ever tried to counter her attack in that way before.. Ear flicking she grinned. This was a new problem to solve, and she enjoyed learning how to solve them. Pacing back and forth in thought she kept a close eye on her rival.
Mind made up she dashed forwards, intent on claiming another strike upon the other lioness. Too late she spotted the sand heaped up in front of her opponent’s paw, body fishtailing wildly as she struggled to alter her trajectory in time. But her speed and light weight worked against her and she was forced to make the leap, springing directly at SMM but far too high, or so it seemed, twisting round in mid air to slash along the other's backbone and down her rump. But Svana landed blind, the sand that had been flung up in front of her having hit her square in the face. Flinging herself to the side and away from her attacker she shot across the ring, head low and tears streaking her cheeks from the grit.
This had not been expected! Her vision, when she tried to open her eyes, was painful and blurry, making the shape of the other lioness weaver in place. it would be impossible to attack until her vision cleared further. Shutting her lids tight to allow her tears to do their job and clean away the grit, she lowered her head, ears flicking forwards to focus on SMM.
She had no idea which God was watching over her, but she was painfully glad they were doing so... This situation would have been the end of he fight only a few months ago, but she had met Lucivar, become his reaver and been introduced to his wife. His blind wife. Having realised such an injury could easily occur, she had started training with Mbali in the ways of the sightless... and soon after had gotten her brother kale to spar with her in the same manner. She was far from as proficient as Mbali was, but she was no longer incapacitated when without her eyes.
So the young female, instead of pawing at her face in panic, turned and focused on her opponent, eyes closed, ears forward. She would be forced onto the defensive for now, until her vision cleared... but she could still win this!

Her back stung as she stood, spreading her legs she balanced and moved to was the other female.
The big lioness moved as the young female leapt away shifting her massive weight closing the gap between them while she struggled with her eyes. The deep chocolate lioness was impressed though. Without sight the young female was using her other senses to find her way, it was something very few lions could do. She had a feeling of pride for the youngster, she was young, yet she had learned so much in her short time upon the earth. SMM was hardly old but she was no child, it had taken her many years to learn to use her weight and size to her advantage, to think instead of leaping in, to know how to beat an opponent who was faster than you. Patience, this youngster had it and she was very impressed.
Still with the youngster blinded she managed to close the gap if only for a moment she dove, but instead of leaping with her paws forwards, she turns and shoulders the young femme, using her considerable weight to topple Svana.
The ground moved under her paws clinging in to the shifting sand, she spread Eagles causing her to slip. Her larger than average body did not make for a graceful stop and made her have to take a step away from the other lioness. She growls to herself, she had wasted an opportunity, the young lioness wouldn't make the same mistake again. Taking a step backwards she fixed her mint coloured eyes on Svana, she felt a pain in her back leg, she'd twisted her back leg as she slipped and she felt a twinge in her spine, Svana had clearly managed to beat a harder strike on her back than she realised.

All the training in the would couldn't quite prepare someone for actually being blind. The pain was a distraction and every time she tried to open them the pain scratched at her lids.
Huffing in distress she forced her mind off the scritchy scratchy sensation and onto the other lioness, ears twitching rapidly to track the heavy footsteps. For the first time Svana was grateful her opponent had a muscular build, it made it slightly easier to hear her.
The sudden rush of pawsteps warned her enough that she threw her weight to the side, hopefully avoiding any attack aimed at her. What she hadn't expected was the heavy impact of a muscular shoulder. Letting her body go with the momentum she twisted as she rolled, using the shove to increase the distance between herself and the other lioness. Springing back to her paws and jumped sideways again, to avoid any follow-up hits.
Blinking she found she could see a watery outline of the other lioness, and while the pain was stll there, it wasn't so bad and she could ignore it. Even so she focused with her whole body, listening and trying to feel where her opponent was and what she was doing. Just a few more moments and she would be able to see well enough to attack again.
