Task 4 Mechanics
PLAY WITH ME

gaia_crown [ LOCATION ]

    Isla de Las Munecas, Mexico

gaia_crown [ SETTING ]

"The Isla de Las Munecas - Or Island of the Dolls - was once started by a human as a tribute to a drowned little human girl. As the years progressed, more dolls appeared on the island, and soon it became more than just a tribute to the little ones that have been lost. It is now a place of great sorrow and FEAR as honouring the dead mixes with the psychological anxiety of seeing so many human-like dolls in such a lonely, haunting place. They hang from trees, they sit in crevices. Some have been there so long that they are being engulfed by the foliage themselves, becoming part of the landscape. Broken doll parts litter the ground, some half-buried enough to make tiny porcelain fingers reach hopefully for the sky. Hundreds - perhaps thousands - of open glass eyes follow your every move as you navigate this silent, lonely island. "

gaia_crown [ MISSION ]

This island is a place to store - and grow - FEAR. Some of the dolls are just dolls, innocently placed there to honour the dead, but others have been planted on purpose as well-hidden FEAR containers. They siphon the FEAR and hold onto it, containing it in the little plastic, porcelain or fabric bodies. You will be given some dolls - ones that are empty FEAR containers - and you will have to switch them out with the full ones on the island, without getting intercepted by Hunters or dropping the doll-like container(s).

gaia_crown [ MECHANICS ]

    Step One: Prep Work

    • Roll a 1d4 - this is how many empty doll-shaped FEAR containers you receive at the beginning. This will also be how many chances you have to roll in step two.
    • Example: I roll a 1d4, and get three - this means I have three fear containers to start with.

    Step Two: Harvest

1 - 20 : You come across a lone Human in a dirty, torn janitor's outfit. They don't bother you or seem to notice you, and simply go about their business, hanging dolls and doll parts from trees. You notice that some of the dolls this human possesses are actually empty fear containers - what you do here is up to you. You can either leave the human be, since they are helping, or you can try to steal one of the FEAR containers for a chance to harvest more. If you choose to steal, roll a 1d6 - evens, you get 1 empty FEAR container (which will give you one more opportunity to harvest), odds you get nothing. Whether or not you let the human live is up to you as well.
21 - 40 : It starts off as a regular harvest, but something happens and you drop the full container! The doll shatters, and the FEAR escapes. You get nothing.
41 - 60 : Hunter Encounter! - You come across a lone Hunter, and they are trying to destroy the fear containers before they can be used! To stop them, you must defeat them. They have 20HP and do an auto damage of 3. If you win the battle, you gain +1 FEAR. If you lose, you simply escape before you can be dissipated.
61 - 80 : One of the dolls you walk by begins to scream - apparently, this one is so full of FEAR that it's threatening to become sentient. In order to harvest this one, you have to move fast - to cut it free from the tree, roll your regular attack dice; if you do damage, the doll stops screaming, and you gain +2 FEAR. If you miss, the doll falls from the tree and shatters, rendering the gathered fear useless.
81 - 100 : You find a human. A "ghost hunting" human, complete with cameras and all sorts of curiously beeping gadgets. Time to harvest some fresh FEAR! Scare the humans however you'd like. By the time you're finished with them, the three FEAR containers nearby are full! +3 FEAR.

    • You may do this for each empty doll container you have (you rolled for these in step one!). Example: I rolled a 3 in step one, which means I can roll 1d100 a total of 3 times.
    • Every prompt you answer will end with you hanging up a empty FEAR container doll.
    • If you roll between 1-20, you DO lose one of your starting FEAR containers. You just have the opportunity to steal another one, which means you can roll again if you're lucky.

    Step Three: Return to Base

    • When you're finished on the island, simply return home with your harvested FEAR in tow!

gaia_crown [ BONUS MECHANICS ]

Please apply these bonuses based on your clan:

    • Famine: Add a +1 to any gained FEAR totals while harvesting.
    • War: Add +2 to any battle roll while on this island.
    • Death: Gains a +1 empty FEAR container in step one.
    • Conquest: Either add or subtract 20 from your 1d100 roll. (ie. I roll a 50 - I can either make it a 30 or a 70, and respond to one of those prompts instead.) You may do this once.

It was time to get back to business. Her limbs itched for action, any sort of action after feeling so cooped up for such a long time. No longer could she sit in her tree and sharpen her weapons to pass idle time. That was why when it came to a task she jumped to the opportunity, almost excitedly. Or whatever it would be called by Iyari standards. Proudly perhaps? Regardless, she went seeking out her mission orders and was given two FEAR containers.

Her face contorted at the sight of the objects in her hands. Disgust. That was the word for that and she glared at the small, dainty "dolls". Had that not been important to her mission it would have been easier for her to smash them there to not have to deal with spreading the image of this thing. By some miracle she held back such a compulsory reaction and opted to twitch her feathers instead.

"It will be done." She said stoically, though nothing could hide the shimmer in her bright eyes. This sort of thing is what she lived for, after all. Hopefully she would be able to run into some humans to terrorize.

It's been far too LONG since I've had that kind of fun...

Once she had landed and her feet touched the cold earth it was like ecstasy. The FEAR was practically glowing as the horsewoman moved swiftly through hanging tree vines and the bushes around her. It smelled of earth, nature and... human? Her nose wrinkled instinctively and she stopped dead in her tracks as a large grin twisted onto her face before it grew cold and stone like yet again.

Time to act. Adrenaline moved through her like a warm blanket and she welcomed it back like an old friend, staying low to the brush and glancing out. One of those damn hunters. She'd recognize those weird coats anywhere and exhaled through her nose. The man seemed preoccupied and she could hear a loud SMASH noise as one of the dainty children dolls shattered into pieces. It was all she needed to start her approach.

The FEAR containers were tied to her waist and she unfurled her wings to shadow over the unsuspecting Hunter, rushing in with a swing of her blade. It was powerful and calculated, but the Hunter had moved back just in time to make it not fatal.

All the better to play with. Iyari thought, swiftly jumping back and staring at him with death in her eyes. This time was hers. Her task. Her mission. And now her prey. Of course the man yelled something to her but she ignored it. "Words of a coward." She muttered to herself and held her blade out, pointing at him. It was a clear threat.

She was relentless with her attacks and barely left any room even to breathe as she volleyed back against him. The glow of his weapon was nothing compared to the blaze of hatred in her eyes. It was your kind that did this! She screamed inside as the blade made contact, leaving a long scratch along his side, the crimson blood showing through the painfully white coat.

It was like painting a picture with her sword which she had so longed for. A horseman in her element, a WAR horseman in her element - battle.

"Hyah!" She felt her stomach tightened as she moved in, striking back at the other side of the man's body to equal out the bright red staining his clothes. Yes, it wasn't exactly fatal but it was something she'd thought about for so long. Completing the task was another one of her concerns, truly. But this was about herself just for this moment. Beautifully selfish and painful, just like what she had been feeling for oh so long now. And now it was here, right in front of her. Iyari was not letting this man escape.

The upward slice before was followed with a slide to the left, her blade out and brimming with the taste of battle. She heard the man fall, but he disappeared before she could turn back to gloat to the human. Her feathers ruffled up and she swung her hand, the kopis blade vanishing from it and she glared at where the man had been.

"All cowards." She huffed. Despite the man getting away with his life she had defeated him and it felt... good. How long had it been since her blade had gotten real work? A look of satisfaction was on her face and she turned, taking one of the FEAR dolls and placing it up in a nearby tree branch while she stuffed a full one nearby onto her belt.

One more and my mission is complete.

Beep Beep BEEP BEEP. The sound increased in volume as she neared the source of it, hopping above in the trees lightly as she moved through them, perching on a taller branch to survey the area better. She locked eyes instantly onto it and gave a smirk in it's direction. Another one. Naturally her first instinct was to grab her sword and repeat what had happened with the Hunter, but this human was different. Off somehow, or at least not a trained warrior of any kind.

Surrounded by glistening gadgets, this man was speaking into a rectangular black box and pointing at the other gadgets. "Little girl... haunting... find out... prove... GHOSTS!" It was hard to understand anything he said among the raving and ranting and Iyari slowly crept closer on her branch, glaring back down at the man. Killing him would do her no good, there was no sport or glory in defeating the defenseless.

That gave him only one other purpose.

Iyari narrowed her eyes in coming up with a plan. The rectangular box was facing him and some equipment was pointing at a tree nearby with dolls in it. The attention solely in one direction. Scared of a ghost of all things. I'll give you something to really fear. Carefully she shook the branches of her own tree before leaping into the one directly above.

Below the man turned and stared at the tree she had come from, looking pale in the face as he scrambled to move his camera that way. Iyari felt her body go rigid and she stood, slowly moving her wings up into the air, her blade appearing in her hands. A strong gust moved her up and she fell, blade down and she slammed into the rectangular box, forcing it to burst into shreds.

The man screamed and turned back, falling to his butt in horror as Iyari stood before him, reaching her wings back into the sky with the blade pointed down at him. With a bat of her wings the equipment went flying as well as the dust from the ground, reaching far up into the air as a backdrop. No words needed to be spoken as the dust made it darken in the area and the human scrambled to his feet, screaming as he ran from the area.

Iyari waited in her position and then relaxed herself, smirking in pleasure as she hung up another doll nearby, smashing any other of the strange shimmering devices nearby to make sure they were destroyed. Nearby, three of the dolls had begun to glow, filled with FEAR and she retrieved them carefully. Despite their unsightly appearance they were potent as collection devices.

With her FEAR in tow she retreated from the island and back home again, holding out the dolls like unwanted food to her superior. There was something rejuvenating about completing a task like this and she turned away with her head held high. Maybe she would do another if this was how it felt to be working again. Helping her clan and her people once more. We are not yet broken.
