Kamakura had a few things left to do in terms of decoration, one of which was carving a few pumpkins. After making sure to get three different sized pumpkins, he set out to make each different than the other. The first one he made like a bat cave, taking careful time to use a marker he’d picked up from the local Maul when he was out and about shopping at one point. He’d also picked up a tool kit in order to properly gut, and carve the pumpkin. He’d carefully picked out all the seeds, and sat down to meticulously work with the design. The details of the cave floor while generalized were enhanced with the stalagmites that hung from the ceiling. Various bats fluttered forwards, and he even made a point of etching a little warning sign of ‘Keep Out’ was added. He hallowed out the structure and made little eyeholes are it was appropriate. He tested how a lit candle would work inside in order to filter light, and then resumed chunking out portions as needed. The old clock in the corner ticked away as he toiled at his first design. Only when he’d managed to shape another couple rocks was the demon satisfied with the first piece.
It was strange that he simply was enjoying this year’s festivities, he felt in the spirit of things for what it was worth. The usually foul tempered nekomata had decorated his dorm, where as last year when he first joined Amityville he’d been far too shy and nervous to even bother. Yes, that was what it had been. Kamakura knew no one, and had walked into a situation he hadn’t been prepared for. While he’d done what he could to fit in, it wasn’t until he’d started trying to push past his comfort zones did he feel like he’d made any real connections.
While certainly carving a few pumpkins wasn’t really reflective of true growth, it simply felt right to do the old time honored tradition. He held up his first pumpkin to the light before finding a nice little place to tuck it away admiring the flicking shadowy glow it emitted from the candle he’d lit on the side. His mind traveled to the next task, the demon boil debated on what to make next as he sat down, and began to clean the largest of the three pumpkins. Deciding to go with something creepy, he went for a hellish looking cat figure, with fangs and hollowed eyes for the candle to glow through. The mouth was sharp, and he wanted it to look like one could place their hand inside to reach for the flickering light just inside. Just like the first one, he took his sweet time and paying careful attention to detail. It was no secret; the nekomata loved arts and crafts and found it relaxing to do silly things like this.
Rubbing his neck he leaned back as he finished up, and appraised the last pumpkin. He decided to do an eye, with its veins as solid masses, and the white of the eye hollowed out. The eyeball was shaped, along with the whites of the eye. This one was a little easier to do than the other two, as he didn’t intend for it to be nearly as involved. Kama had decided after these three, he’d perhaps carve at least one more between now and Halloween Night if the fancy struck him, but for now the addition of the fresh pumpkin to his dorm was a delight to see. It added another layer to the already decorated room, although who was complaining? Not me, that's for sure.
While he wanted it to be within the realm of impressive, in all reality he didn’t expect everyone to like it any more than one thing or another. Creeple all had a different taste, that’s just how it jacking went. The thought brought a smirk to the cat boils face as he went to go head for the creepateria back on campus grounds. He’d worked up an appetite carving pumpkins, and wanted something a little more filling than candy in that moment.
With that, Kamakura slipped out of his dorm satisfied he’d covered almost all his basis now with decorating, he’d have to snap a picture or two with his scarephone to send home now that he thought about it.
