Nah, that's something a person in AD times would do, kira's not that idiotic.
Honestly, I did sorta want flay and kira to have a reunion, as flay was working out what a bad person she was by the end of the series. I think kira in the Freedom was more than capable of twisting his shield around and saving that shuttle, but for plot and shipping they killed off the first love and shipped him with athrun's girl.
I think athrun should be with cagali, but I think it was too rushed.
That's my... 4 cents I guess.
