"Level? Like a video game?" A look of amused disbelief crossed his face. But Gloom's offer caught his attention quickly. He shot a look at Jordan. While Horace was sure they could find their own way out, he wanted to know what Gloom would actually do.
"Out of here?"

"You're from the school?" Jordan asked, catching the bit of information and immediately intrigued.
He returned Horace's glance. He was curious about what the shadow creature would do to get them out of here, and it would solve the problem of finding a way to sneak out. "Sure," he said. "That'd be really helpful."
Gloom made a gesture with his paw for them to come closer, though Jordan got a slow blink. "Gloom meant that it's on the other side where Gloom comes from. Darkness is where Gloom is from; shadows."
The shadows of the library lengthened and darkened all around them. "Just like a video game. Y'got to level up and get stronger and be the best y'can be!" His words were a distraction because as he spoke the shadows seemed to curl around their feet and eventually they were shrouded in inky blackness that shrouded everything around them.
The only things visible were themselves and the white of Gloom's odd eyes but then, as they blinked, the world came back into view and they were in the student parking section. Outside.
Gloom was rolling around on the grass nearby, stretching himself out.

Horace barely had time to wonder if Gloom played pokemon before the shadows swirled around him. He stiffened and shut his eyes tightly, flinching as he imagined it stealing around his legs. He heard different sounds and opened his eyes slowly, one by one. They were outside.
"Sweet trick, little dude." He wasn't going to ask how; the magic was, nebulously, magic. "Thanks," Horace guessed a thanks would be appropriate. "You should swing by when I level up and teach me some stuff, yeah?" He glanced over at Jordan and shrugged. It was worth a try, right?
Jordan kept his eyes open, watching the shadows stretch out for them and engulf them. It could have been terrifying, but Gloom had been so clearly friendly and helpful that it was mostly intriguing. Darkness engulfed them entirely, and then -- in the space of a blink, they were outside. "That's awesome," he said. "Thank you, Gloom."
He flashed a grin to Horace's glance. Why not? It was worth a try.

"If y'call for Gloom," he said as he rolled onto his stomach and focused up at Horace, "then Gloom will come. Gloom is a friend, always a friend."
There was a pleased chitter. "Y'are very welcome!" With another stretch he seemed to melt away into the shadows. "If y'need Gloom just call." Like he already said. He reappeared briefly, solidly there for another single moment. "... manners are important though, don't forget that."
Then he disappeared once more, only his sweet voice heard. "Have a good night, friends!"

you're both welcome to hit him up later if you want to!
"Well..." Horace said after Gloom had left. "That was definitely something else." He took a deep breath and glanced at Jordan. It was dark and late and technically they should go straight home to ponder all they heard, or something.
"Wanna go get boba? You tell me all about how you're magical or something." He grinned.

"That was absolutely something else," Jordan agreed, grinning. "Sure, that sounds great. No way I'm sleeping right after that, you know? I'll tell you all about my spooky magic powers, or something." Which he was not at all sure that he had. He did the spooky fingers anyway.
