[PRP] Hidden knowledge (Jer/Thorne/Shun/Library)

That was... not quite reassuring. Hopefully the knowledge he sought will appear, then.

From the crashing sounds, his head turned sharply in the direction it seemed to be coming from. Shun saw the flash of light and felt the heat that accompanied the noise. Falling stars. Well, maybe they were on the right path, then.

In part, due to instinct, he kind of wanted his gun right now. But they had far better things at their disposal here in Other Ashdown. His fingers flexed in anticipation as he began to make his way in the direction the lights and sounds had come from. He only checked once to see if the other two were coming along, having now fallen silent.

If something else was in here, he wanted to try and be as quiet as possible.

The trio rounds the corner of the stacks. There on the ground is the torn spine of a book, its pages rifled through and ripped. A pattering of feet, a flicker of a lace skirt hem: the perpetrator of this violence against books is running away.

A closer look at the book reveals that it is handwritten. Multiple references are made to a "Doe" and a "Mikey" and a "Ming". Could it be?...

"I've a reputation to uphold," he replies to Thorne, giving the younger noble a rather cavalier smirk. Then he sees it as they all do. A flash of skirt and lace and he thinks it is familiar. For a brief moment he considers chasing, to move forward without trying-

Instead he disappears from the group and moves forward past the book to look before turning back. Jeremiah looks briefly down, sees two names that look familiar and a third that he's only heard once from Zac.

"Be careful picking it up, Shun," he says. As they had talked before about how books in other ashdown could sometimes be more show than tell.

Shun tensed a bit as he saw the fleeing form. His eyes shifted between the figure and the torn book on the ground. A part of him wanted to pursue and see who the hell it was, but...it seemed that some of the knowledge he sought was right here. Judging the ripped up book, it seemed that someone might have been trying to destroy this before others could reach it.

He nodded once to Jeremiah, then cautiously picked the book up, not entirely certain what to expect.

Thorne fled after the other two, not bothering for a response out loud, though his heart hammered at the preternatural echo and bend of the library around them. He didn't recognize any of the names, but then, he had never delved as deeply into the history of Ashdown as others had, more caught in the present than the past.

"Hopefully it doesn't bite," Thorne added wryly, watching Shun pick it up, body wired, waiting, on something to happen.

Anything to go wrong.

The book is just a book, and it lays in Shun's hands like any other book might. There's no images, no memories. It's the adolescent ramblings of a young woman who goes unnamed. She makes an offhand reference to warding, and another to a rift she's noticed in the forest outside of her hometown. In the margins of the page, there is a simplistic drawing of the crown, sword, and stars: but the crown is instead around the sword, three-dimensional and traditionally designed.

The pages after that have been ripped out.

Nothing happens, which has Jeremiah stepping closer to look at what's in the book. "... looks like someone stole the pages we'd likely be interested in."

He turns his head to look where the person has run off too. If it was a someone but this book had the beginnings of what they might need. "It's not quite the same," he says as he turns to look at both men, "that sigil there but it's a sign of the cage.

"... and there cannot be a coincidence that it makes mention of a rift in a forest when we've got the same now." Glowing eyes watched them both still as he added, "We should probably pursue whomever ran off if we want to have a chance at what else was in this book." Even if it was disjointed ramblings, the subject matter was correct.

When nothing happened, Shun began to flip through the pages. He couldn't read things too closely right now, but he stopped when he saw a slightly different version of the sigil he now wore around his neck. The pages after that image were gone.

"It may have been an early design. And I agree. We should hurry before they get away. Thorne. Can you fly over any of these shelves to try and spot them?"

Closing the book, he glanced over in the direction the figure had run off, then took off.
