room one
It’s a hallway. There is only one way to go and you’re not sure how it even works because you could have sworn there were windows on either side that looked into a living room. A table sits to the side, a rocking chair next to it. The lights flicker and go out. It’s when they come back on that you realize you’re not alone.

Something is behind you and a door down the way creaks open.

3 - A clown. He smiles. There are too many teeth.

Veronica wasn't one to investigate creepy things. Hell, she enjoyed creepy as much as the next person did, but scaring her was something she felt, not showed, and it gave her easy nightmares. She was someone who'd joke with her friends about how she wouldn't have investigated this or that should it have come up.

      And yet, here she was.

      Alone.

Vero's breath hitched the moment the door closed behind her. Or-- there didn't seem to be a door behind her. She hadn't noticed when it'd vanished, but-- It was gone, and now, Vero knew the special effects in this place were top notch. Either that or it was real.

      She giggled nervously.

Continuing to walk down the hall, the young adult could feel her skin crawl as she realized the hallway was endless, which only added to the strangeness. A window, next to her-- It looked normal, natural, and she felt like she was interrupting something intimate. As the lights flickered, Veronica could feel the hairs on her neck stand as she felt something.

      Watching.

      There were too many teeth.

room two
Lightning flashes across the sky and you can see it through the skylights that are part of the ceiling of this room. It’s a dining room with wax figures sitting at the table and forever caught in what looks like an animated discussion of politics.

You assume it’s politics. There’s a television in the corner that looks like there’s a debate playing. It’s possibly scarier than what appears next as you turn your gaze to the door that opens.

A nurse. She cries. Blood leaks from her eyes and off of her hands.

Veronica had to take every ounce of confidence in her to stay and not bolt. That promise of prizes at the end was the only thing keeping her feet rooted to the ground, and she wasn't one to skimp on the good stuff when she had the option. The female continued on, wary for the next too-many-teethed-clown.

Everything flashes at once. Veronica's teeth clench. She isn't used to having real life be scary. Her books held enough scary, usually, but this time, she couldn't shut it, she guessed. The hallway opened to a dining room, and everything seemed as if at a total stand-still. Veronica couldn't help but eye the attention to detail-- They seemed life-like. That was some good carving.

Something in her told her it wasn't carving.

Veronica tried not to think of technicalities. The TV fizzled and played low-like, creating a strange vibe in the room. Or of the corner of her eye, a door opened. It didn't take much more than a glance to see the blood dripping down her cheeks, pooling in her hands, falling to the floor.

      Veronica shuddered.

... it’s a room of ghosts, actual ghosts. Except that they’re college students lounging about on couches. One of them is doing caricatures and another pair plays beer bong. You’re absolutely not interesting to them at all. There’s another ghost in the corner by the door that opens. It seems kind of pervy.

Also it’s pointing to something behind you.

A puppy and a kitten hiding under a witch’s hat. They are horribly cute and playing together.

Veronica wasn't sure if she'd been thrust into a memory of her recent Saturday night or if she was watching fake people. Maybe her friends were playing a practical joke on her.

Either way, she felt awkward and strange, seeing all these... transparent people interact. She felt mildly interested, but they all seemed uninterested. Vero felt a bit awkward.

A small whine behind her made her turn.

It seemed to be a moving witch's hat. Veronica squinted. Hats didn't move. Witches didn't leave their hats. Something was in there.

For some reason, she didn't feel quite prepared enough to look underneath it. It could be death itself. One more whine made her give in.

Veronica was glad she had. Even if she'd hadn't expected that at all!

room four
Somehow you’ve found yourself in a garden?! Fog rolls in and despite looking you cannot, for the life of you, find the fog machine. The moon is strangely full (even if it’s not the night of the full moon) and it’s reflection is clear in the water of the fountain in front of you.

A pair of skeletons sit together on a bench, their heads together as if they died while conversing with each other. You ignore them until you hear bones creak and they both point to the hidden doorway that leads out.

This time it’s something out of the corner of your eye that catches you off guard as you’re trying to slip away.

A clown. He smiles. There are too many teeth.

      There was too much fog.

It was sort of making it hard for Veronica to see, especially with her glasses. She removed them to clean them, though as she looked around, it was now that she realized she was somehow outside. There was a full moon, and yet, Veronica dimly remembered the sky being empty, that night. It was strange. Her finger played with the water fountain's surface as her eyes looked around the room in curiosity.

Skeletons? They hadn't seemed too dangerous. It was a haunted house, she was pretty sure they weren't really out to kill her. Whatever they was. She kept on, though the creak made her stop, turn-- Clench her teeth. Veronica moved quickly, but knew deep in her something was up.

Her eyes connected with the clowns, and Veronica suddenly felt like she knew deep rooted fear and all its incarnations.

She was glad she'd been moving.

room five
You enter a pitch black room. The floor seems to feel solid and flat under your feet but waving your arms touches nothing. There is music blasting and the chaotic sound of many people talking; the noises of a party. You don’t touch or bump anyone, though as you walk voices get closer and farther to your ears as if you are truly passing through a crowd.

The techno music comes to a head, there is a siren, a sudden light goes off revealing the exit. The invisible crowd cheers but something grabs you before you reach the door ...

A puppy and a kitten hiding under a witch’s hat. They are horribly cute and playing together.

      Everything was so loud.

Veronica couldn't take it. She wasn't one for loud music in the first place, and house parties weren't her favorite thing. Maybe she'd just stumbled into some Halloween party she hadn't been invited to. That might've been why no one spoke to her.

Or maybe she was just getting spooked for no reason. Either way, she was there, there was loud music, and Veronica didn't like any of it. Her hand reached out just in case, trying not to bump into anyone-- But no matter how near by the voices were, she could never reach them.

She could never hear them come closer, or when she came closer, or... It was strange. She couldn't have been in a crowd, there was no one there. Maybe she was going crazy.

Or maybe she was just hallucinating. Either way, when the sound of whining came back and now, added to it, was a purr, Veronica couldn't help but check.

Aaaawwwww. She loved cats and dogs. Maybe she'd get one, when she had her own apartment. For now, there were a lot of sirens, and something told her she couldn't take one of the animals home. Veronica stood up and walked toward the exit, unaffected. She had to admit, the scary bits were really great quality-- Though, it needed more scare than tension. The tension had been palpable. Maybe, in a little more time... Then again, she too had been minimally scared. And she wouldn't be, next year.

      ...If she participated. Maybe.

Veronica considered this as she left the house.
