Lona listened to Fai with genuine intrigue, nodding as she listened to his reasoning for doing so much hard work on his own. Honestly, she really should have known that Fai's reason for doing it all by himself was so he could learn about the process on his own and not "inconvenience" others with his request for help. He was such a sweet boy, and he was always experimenting and coming up with hypotheses to learn about the world around him. She should have expected that as his reason, really. "As long as you enjoyed yourself, that's all that matters at the end of the day, isn't it? I'm glad you had fun, Fai."
By now the two were almost halfway to the edge of the herd's territory, not too far away should Fai wish to return for any reason and not too far to make him uncomfortable. Hopefully they'd be out for a few hours, enjoying the weather.
The cream colored mare turned her head at Fai's voice and she gave a thoughtful smile. "Why do I go? Hmm... I think it's because I'm still not very familiar with the area. Going on my walks lets me find new resources that I can gather later on for the herd as well, which can be helpful. I also think that it's important to take time to just relax and enjoy yourself. Walking calms me and give me time to my own thoughts, but I'm always happy to have company." Lona continued forward, giving Fai a gentle nudge to reassure that his presence truly was welcome. "Plus, sometimes I'll see something I haven't before, and that's always exciting."

Fai smiled timidly at the praise that Lona offered him. It was always nice being in her presence. She was kind and thoughtful, always speaking the words that needed to be heard by those she spoke them to. She was a blessing to the herd; a blessing that he was positive she didn't know she was. Fai considered himself blessed to know who the kind and gentle mare, someone that he was sure to do great things for the herd in one way or another.
Fai remembered when Lona came to the herd. She had been so quiet and distant at first, seemingly tip-toeing around the other members of the herd, unsure and uncertain. He himself had been too shy to approach her and introduce himself when Lona was new. Fai had decided he would get to know her by watching her from a distance at first. He saw how she was gentle with the wild animals that scampered in the woods of the herdlands. He had watched her heal and return injured animals to their nests. He had watched her venture into the wooded areas that he was too afraid to go in to himself. She spoke softly to the young ones that were new to the herd; she carried herself with a quiet grace and serenity that he hadn't see in others. For a long time, he had amired her from afar, too anxious and nervous to ever dare approach her, and then she had done it for him. She had said hello, introduced herself, and found common ground with him through his studies of the world around him. If there had been any other to make him chatter away, he was sure Lona would have found it.
He hadn't even noticed how far out Lona had lead them. Fai had been too lost in his own thoughts. The stallion never dared to leave the main area of the herd, asking others to gather the plants and samples he needed while the gatherers were out and doing their business. Lona had even brought him a few plants for him to study. Perhaps he'd be able to find more samples that he could bring back while the pair was out walking together.
Fai turned his attention away from his own thoughts and back to the cream colored mare beside him. He supposed Lona was correct in going out and getting to know the area since she wasn't originally from the herd, though he had never ventured outside of the territory either, and he had grown up in the Kateri. "Ahh... Th-that's true. I n-never thought of it like that. B-but what if the new thing you see is something you don't like? Wh-what if it's scary?"

After spending more than enough time trembling and shaking, worried, nervous, and afraid, Fai decided that he would do his part to try and seek Lona out. No good would come of him just standing there, aimless. So with timidness shaking his form, Fai took his first solo steps into unfamiliar territory. He hoped he would be able to find Lona. If he went slow and careful, there was a chance that he and Lona would eventually cross paths again.
The stallion ventured on, pausing every few odd feet to look around the area. The light in the woods was getting brighter, meaning the trees were thinning. It was worrisome. He remembered the leaves creating a barrier from the sun and the spot he and Lona were in had been particularly well shaded. His grimaced in worry as he went on, walking forwards. His worry only grew at the mountains came in to view.
The mountains were the edge of the herd's territory and he had heard how there were Kalona out there, Kalona that were more than willing to attack and tear them limb from limb.
