Alianne’s teeth gently worried her lip as she peeked out at the forest around her, her bangs obscuring most of her face. While it was quiet, and she was fairly sure she was alone, there was something about the bare branches around her that just couldn’t quiet make her feel safe. She loved green foliage, flowers bursting in all sorts of colours, but this cold, crisp, winter landscape threw her off. Everything just felt barren, like it was missing an essential part of itself.
But that was why she was out here. She wanted to grow a garden, she loved caring her for plants. But there wasn’t much to do in winter. A travelling raccoon however, had informed her of some beautiful flowers he had seen growing despite the cold. And that, she decided, would make a wonderful addition. She wanted it to be beautiful all year around, full of spring, summer, autumn and winter plants! So long as she could find and cultivate them, of course. She gave a small shiver, casting another cautious look at the twisted tree trunks. It wasn’t that she felt particularly cold, for her coat was growing in thick for the season, but there was something about the atmosphere that sent chills running up her spine.

A sudden voice made Alianne leap a good metre into the air, her fur bristling in all directions from the shock. While he probably hadn’t intended to spook her, she had been so absorbed in her thoughts of flowers, and of general ominous atmospheres, that she had managed to completely miss his friendly approach. Her heart raced in a quick pitter-patter as she whirled around to look at the stranger.
Oh. Oh no. He was big. And. Spooky. Were those bones? Ghosts? Teeth? Well. All Soquili had teeth. But. BIG teeth. However, his voice was friendly and polite, and she found herself feeling somewhat ashamed of her quick judgement. Still, what was he doing out here? She remained cautiously on guard, but gave him a quick peek from under her mop of hair. “Not disturbing, no!” she said shyly, her voice somewhat quiet. “I was just looking for something. A plant!” Realising she hadn’t even responded to his hello, she took a deep breath and thought through her actions. “Hello.”

He certainly seemed nice, despite his immense size. Alianne felt a little reassured by his open nature, though she couldn’t shake her shyness quite so easily. Still, she fought through it, after all, he had asked her about plants, which always without fail managed to get her talking. “Alianne.” She offered, giving her ears a friendly wiggle.
“W-well, I don’t know how much you know about plants. But I heard there was a flower growing somewhere in the area that is blooming now, in winter. I’d quite like to find it. I don’t know too much about it, I only found out via a passing raccoon merchant.” She cleared her throat, suddenly very self-aware that she was prattling on. “He said it’s yellow, very fragrant, and it blooms even in the snow. He called it weeping jasmine, I think.”

“O-oh! That would be wonderful!” If there was anything that could break Alianne out of her shell, it was the enticement of a beautiful plant. In this case, she almost entirely forgot that Dimitri was a stranger as she bounced up onto her hooves, daring to even look him straight in the eye – pupils aglow with delight. A smile flickered across her face for a brief moment, before she remembered herself. A hot flush crept across her cheeks, fur stiffening slightly as she quickly averted her gaze downwards once more. How silly of her! She didn’t even know him, and here she was blindly trusting him. But still, he did seem kind of nice.
“Th-thank you.” A more reasonable retort, she decided. But a curiosity burned within her – the stallion seemed to recognise the name, or at least be familiar with the plant. Was he a gardener too? A collector? Maybe they had something in common. “D-do you like plants too?” she offered shyly.

Giving a small shake of his head to dislodge some snow that had fallen onto him from one of the nearby branches he glanced around. The forest looked so barren and alien without foliage. There were no herbs for him to gather or seeds to plant. He hadn't the time to make a greenhouse before the snow had decided to grace itself upon the lands. He was a little bummed out about that but otherwise he was okay with it. He would be better prepared next year for sure.
