Once again Sumire was brought to the realization that her bloodline was filled with oddballs. Clearly a streak of uniqueness or simply screwball behavior ran rampant in her family. Her mate was rather level headed and highly intelligent . While she would like to claim that characteristics that her offspring and grandson were displaying were because of her mates blood, she just couldn't. She felt like their silliness must have come from her own unique thought process and sometimes quirky behavior. After all her mate was too sweet and clear headed. He would never display the silliness her descendants were acting out. It would have been nice if all her offspring had taken after her mates personality.
Sumire sighed a long sigh that filled the clearing and was all to dramatic. Clearly this was an example of her being too dramatic. Her family was acting like a chicken without a head. Sumire had always thought this saying was rather vulger, but yet it perfectly described the scene before her. Dacian seemed to be glued to one spot, his head in the clouds. Every emotion seemed to flash across his face , but he seemed a bit sad. Sumire's was a bit concerned for her son. Shouldn't he as a father feel extreme joy, instead his face flickered between extreme happiness and despair. Her daughter Regin was standing off to the side quietly and watching the the excitement like a spectator watching a performance. She was perhaps the wisest in the group. Her grandson Calevera on the other hand, was acting in a peculiar manner. He looked hopeful at times, but other times he would secretly shot Deneb sharp glances. He looked at her like she had taken away his favorite toy. Not to mention the noise all the family was making. The little foals clearly needed their sleep the days activities had simply exhausted all of them. However all the adults around them were making quite a commotion and were probably disturbing the little ones sleep. Sumire could understand why everyone was making such a racket. Everyone was excited about the foals emerging, but the big thing would be to give the girls some peace and quite. All the present family members were being far to noisy. Didn't any of the present family members have any practical sense? It seemed that Deneb was the only one who was not filling the woodlands with boisterous clatter. However Deneb was the only soq in this patch of the woods that was not related to her, what a pity. If only her own offspring had enough sense to know that tired young foals needed a quiet environment. Sumire did not raise her voice, but she pointedly looked each of her dependents in their eyes and raised her eyebrows in a sign of displease. If they were smart they would soon realize her meaning. -words 477-

Regin sensed a storm was coming and not the physical manifestation of rain. Storms were both wonderful and dangerous they brought much needed water to the desert and brought wonderful flowers that carpeted the desert in a multicolored brilliance. However this storm was not brought about by the change it weather but by changing emotions. Sumire was clearly upset at everyone in the vicinity. Now Regin could be a mamma bear and protect her son when she thought he needed protection. However circumstances were a bit different this time, Regin had distinct impression that her son was part of the reason why her mother was upset. "I believe that this is to dangerous of a battle for me. My experience and intuition are telling me that this is not a good time to cross my mother. I have a feeling her irritation levels keep rising and if they do I don't want them focused on me. Son I really love you, but this particular opponent is to charged emotionally for me to handle. I don't want to involve myself in any kind of battle. Only a complete idiot rushed into battles that they have no chance of winning. This time your own your own squirt,"Regin whispered under her breath in a soft tone of voice that no one, except the trees could hear. If her soon was truly in danger she would enter any battle to give him aid, but not all battles were physical and well it looked like it was not just her son that was causing her mother to get angry, but her younger brother as well. At least her song would have company when he received a tongue lashing from his grandmother.
Hiding from her mother behind some nearby trees made her feel a bit cowardly, but her mate Knucklebones had taught her to choose her battles wisely. Over time Knucklebone's had taught many lessons on how to successfully survive in the desert. He had taught her how to find water in the desert, make basic tools, and how to gauge enemies. Knucklebone had taught her many strategies for dealing with dangerous soq. He advised her to carefully watch other soqs facial expressions especially the eyes. Eyes were the widows into a soq's soul. Many soq could lull you into :complacency and trick you with their fake smiles. However soq with evil intentions often had hard eyes. He cautioned her it was better to out think a opponent and if you need to fly. If the enemy was to fast or weak you could fight, but he taught her it was important to pick your fights carefully.
However his teaching on picking the correct battles to fight, could easily be applied to this situation. This was one fight that she did not want to be part of. -words 472-

Dacian looked sideways as his sister. She had suddenly become very quiet and she was looking from side to side as if trying to avoid the gaze of someone in the vicinity. She was slowly backing up and positioning herself behind a tree. Her facial expression tried to look both naive and clueless, but Dacian knew his eldest and only sister was putting forth a front. Clearly he had missed something among the group's social interactions. His sister could be bossy and abrasive at times, but most of the time she was sweet and mellow. She didn't back of from fights and only one soq would get her to try to act in a foal like manner. Sumire, their mother was the only soq that would make Regin act in that fashion. Dacian let his eyes slowly wander to the direction were his mother had been standing since she first discovered the foals. He knew she probably felt deceived by him keeping their birth a secret. Since his parents and his eldest sister were both in lifemate relationships, he felt awkward telling them about his complicated relationship with Deneb. Dacian never intended to hide news of his first offspring , however he just thought the topic difficult to bring up. Several times he had almost brought the topic up in discussion with his father and mother, but each time he had lost the courage. Generally he was brave when facing an enemy, he was used to battle and fighting as a protector/ warrior for the woodlands . Perhaps the ability to tell hard truths was a bravery of different kind of courage. Dacian pondered over this thought and believed he had a mental breakthrough . If he looked at the situation, he found himself to be in a unknown precarious place. When fighting with enemies, he knew he could be injured or die. Dacian took great pride in his job as acting as the woodlands protector, he had long ago come to terms that his job might one day take his life. Since he had come to terms with losing his life he could be brave. Now that he was a father his life had become more complicated and knew he would need to be especially careful when fighting till the girls reached adulthood and could take care of themselves. Should anything happen to Dacian, he knew his parents, brothers and sister would step up and protect and provide for his girls.
Dacian however was a novice when came to telling hard truths to his family. He dearly loved his family and he hated to cause them emotional pain. He knew his actions in keeping the girls a secret had probably hurt his mother the most. She had been looking forward to the day she would receive grand foals from him. Since Sumire had not been able to see her Regin offspring until they were adults she was putting her hopes on her sons. Sumire had complained to the family just the other day that non of her three sons looked like they were going to have families anytime soon and she was going to become grey in her mane and coat before any of her boys gave her anouther set of grand foals. Dacian should have told her then and their of the existence of his newborn girls who had been residing in their baskets -words 563-

Sumire raised one eyebrow at her son. Finally he was starting to realize how disruptive he, Calevera, had been with all their chatter. Where the males around her always this dense or was there something about young foals that made them temporarily lose their common sense. She hoped their confusion was not a new maintained state, but a fleeting state of being. Sumire narrowed her eyes as she looked around for her wayward daughter. "Hmm smart girl,"she mumbled to herself as she looked around for her daughter. Regin was clearly out of sight most likely she sensed the mood of her mother. Sumire admired her daughter for being the only one able to sense her mood. Though being a mother herself Regin, probably realized that the noise her son and brother were making was waking the foals. Sumire made a mental note to chide her daughter next time they were alone. Her daughter was no longer a fragile flower who could not weather criticism. Sumire had been devastated, when Regin first left the woodlands . However looking back now, she realized her daughter had not been in the best mental health during her youth. It was not until Regin returned from the desert that she had admitted that she had been very depressed by her lack of wings. Sumire had never considered that daughter would think less of herself because she had not inherited her mother wings. After all Sumire mate and Regin's father did not have wings. It made sense that not all their offspring would inherit her moth wings. Even Dacian who had inherited the wings , couldn't really fly. Dacian was just able to hover above the ground and glide if he needed to, but the action usually strained his back muscles. Sumire was saddened that daughter had suffered through her youth. However now Regin was a happy and emotional sound adult. Living in the desert and being a mother had greatly changed Regin. She was now a savvy, fierce little mare who often had the last laugh when it came to battles. Regin no longer needed to be coddled by her mother and Sumire no longer needed to feel guilty for not realizing how depressed her daughter had been. Now they could once again have a proper mother and daughter relationship. Although Regin was an adult, she might still need her mothers help and advice every once in awhile. Sumire felt like their mother and daughter bond would grow and change over the next couple of years. However Regin would still always be her baby in her heart. After all Regin was her very first foal, and her only daughter. Sumire always longed for the summer months to come sooner, because that was the time in which Regin visited the family because she couldn't stand the desert in the summer. With the thoughts of her daughter heavy on her mind, Sumire decided that perhaps she wouldn't chide Regin as much as she planned.

Regin felt a chill run down her back. Now Regin wasn't superstitious, but she had a feeling that someone was having a few negative thoughts about her. She admitted that behavior might be seen in a cowardly light . However her mate had taught her to survive at all cost and experience had taught her that it wasn't a good idea to cross her mother. Regin could suffer some pangs of guilt and a few chills down the spine if it meant she could avoid a sticky situation.
After all she was at fault as well. She knew from her own experience how precious sleep was for foals, but in her excitement over her new nieces she had forgotten to remind her son that he needed to be quiet around the young ones.
Well now she was stuck hiding behind a clump of trees until her mother calmed down. Hopeful her younger brother would notice the predicament he had gotten himself in and take control of the situation. Her son Calevera while not much younger then her little brother ,was still too naive to realize the danger he had gotten himself in. Hopefully he would soon take note of his grandmother's changing moods. She silently begged him to be more aware of his surroundings. Usually his survival instincts were keen and reliable, but they were either not working, or he was not paying attention to him. Regin let out a huff, as she gave voice to her frustrations. The chatter of her son and brother covered any noise that she made, and her mother remained no the wiser to her hidden location. Regin carefully peeked at the clearing from behind her hiding spot. The trees with their big bases were protecting her from her mother view, though she was probably visible from some angles of the small clearing. Regin sincerely hoped her butt was not sticking out from behind one of the trees. It would be quite humiliating if she was given away, because her rump was large . Luckily her coat color was on the darker side and easily blended into the dark woodland environment. However she did have a large bone accessory that was placed right on her tailbone. The skull's pale coloring would stand out in the woodland environment. Regins sighed deeply as she though of the humiliation that might await her.
Perhaps she should never have hidden. Regin had been trying to avoid a confrontation between her mother and herself. Her actions had been wise, but a bit cowardly. Mostly though she was regretting the choice because she kept imagining that her butt with it's shinny white skull was sticking out from behind her hiding place. If any of her family members saw the way she was hiding, they would tease her to no end. --words 467--

Watching his uncle suddenly become quiet made the hair against Calevera neck stand on edge. Calevera's instincts were screaming at him that danger was close at hand. However he chuckled to himself that he was being rather paranoid. Calevera usually put great faith in his protective instincts , but there was no danger to him this far into the woods. This area of the woods had always been a safe oasis for the Woodland Moths. No predator had ever come this far into the heart of the woods So why would his instincts start screaming at him that he was in danger. He was with his family, what danger could pose a threat to him? However a part of his brain focused on the fact that his uncle had become particular quiet all of a sudden. Calevera eyes started to widen as he scanned the nearby vicinity and noticed the absences of his mother. His mother wouldn't have suddenly left the clearing without telling him first, especially since they had just arrived to her birthplace after their long journey through the soq lands. Something was very suspicious about his mom suddenly disappearing. Calivera eyes widened as he tried to scan the nearby vicinity. However his mother remained elusive and well hidden. At least that was was Calivera was starting to realize when he finally made eye contact with his grandmother. This was also the moment when he realized that his mother didn't always have his back. She must have noticed Sumire changing face and had stealthily snuck out of the clearing. He would have liked to have some warning, but wouldn't blame his mother for his present situation. After all his instincts had been screaming at him for some time, but he ignored them and hadn't noticed the danger in time. Just when he felt like he ears were going to flatten under the abuse of his grandmothers words, he was saved by an unlikely source. One of the little foals had wobbled towards Sumire. Once his grandmother had made eye contact with the little foal her attention was swiftly taken away from both him and his uncle. Calivera held his breath as he watched his grandmothers face. However she seemed to be totally distracted. He let out a brief sigh, perhaps he could safely avoid his grandmothers ire. Slowly Calivera started to back away in a stealthy manner. His mother had the right idea, when she had hidden herself. He was going to follow her example, and make himself scarce. As he started to back up, he suddenly heard a loud snap. He quickly looked on the forest floor and noticed in his haste he had stepped on large dry twig. Calivera quickly looked up at his grandmother, but she seemed to be thoroughly distracted. Taking this chance he quickly vanished deeper into the woods. --words 475--
