Amai Shi had slept in later than usual that morning. Most likely due to the fact that he had also been up later than usual. He had gotten distracted by the way the stars sparkled in the clear autumn sky the night before and had been up late peering through the branches of the trees admiring them. It wasn't unusual for him to be side tracked by various natural beauties. As a matter of fact, he was about halfway down the path to the spring that served as his current source of water when he had to pause to admire the way the late morning sun caught in the swiftly dying leaves. It was wonderful, the small deaths that happened in the world each year. He always made sure to place himself where he could best enjoy the brilliant color displays that were the final death throes of the trees before the serene blankets of winter snows shrouded them in their resting time.
After a moment of just breathing deep and taking in the sight of his bone edged path winding its way through the fallen leaves he urged himself to motion again. He really was in need of a drink, he reminded himself. He hummed quietly to himself as he trotted along. He had been here quite a while, he mused to himself, if his bone collecting had afforded him enough treasure to even line some of his most commonly used pathways. It might soon be time to move on to find better shelter for the thick winter snows he enjoyed putting himself in the middle of.
It wasn't too far a journey between the thicket he currently called home and his spring, but it took him some time to make it to the water and start on his way back. He kept getting distracted by the subtle poetry created by his own bone art in harmony with the natural surroundings. Fall really was his favorite time of year! He wasn't vain of his ability to create art. He didn't even really attribute it to his own skill. It seemed to him that the bones just . . .spoke to him. Whispered where they wanted to be, and all he did was oblige them.
