Book of Water
The Water type is one of the most diverse in the Pokemon world, and for good reason as not only is water essential to all life but water covers the bulk of our planet. As such the history around the Water type and those who have attempted to harness its energies is storied and deep. While there have been several civilization built around the goal of mastering the Water type two stand out in history, the Kreek and the Gyaan, bitter rivals which would end up destroying each other.
-The Kreek-
The Kreek were a human civilization, a civilization of almost all Water Channelers, children raised early on to master their artifacts and work alongside their trusted Water Pokemon. The Kreek originally made their home on a small cluster of islands in the Hoenn region. Originally a peaceful people in tune with nature and respectful of the oceans which provided sustenance the Kreek quickly learned how to tame the ocean with their amazing abilities and rapidly did they build a grand civilization from their tiny islands. While the fragmented nature of the early Kreek caused much fighting among the different islands in time they would come together as a single people under a democratic federation. With their new union it was deemed necessary for them to form a neutral capital and thus the greatest channelers and minds of the once fragmented Kreek came together and formed a marvelous floating city which they named after their god, Kyogre, declaring their new capital to be named Alphapolis. The floating capital was an ecological marvel for its time as it floated on the backs of Corsola, both living and deceased. These days you can still see what remains of it in Pacifidlog Town which still floats upon the backs of Corsola.
United and with a marvelous capital to come together in the Kreek saw a Golden Age of exploration, philosophy, and architecture. Using their channeling knowledge they constructed fleets of sea going vessels which could be powered by their artifacts, allowing them to spread far beyond the Hoenn region. The Kreek at this time were not a conquering people and largely only had interest in understanding their world, gathering knowledge and answering many of life's questions, a civilization devoted almost entirely to the scholarly. As such they established many port towns across the globe and built relationships with the locals. One civilization they became particularly close to, a civilization of Channelers like themselves, however Grass Channelers. The Kreek called them the Phoinike, a name which would stick and eventually accepted by the Grass Channelers. The Phoinike would at first be little more than a business contact for the Kreek, each selling the other goods they did not have in their respective home regions (Hoenn for the Kreek, Alola for the Phoinike). The Kreek especially took interest in the Phoinike's highly advanced medicines, of such were of great value the world over.
The Kreek-Phoinike relationship would evolve far past that of strictly business when a prominent philosopher Archon (the elected leader) became deathly sick after a visit to the rival land of the Gyaan. At first Phoinike medicines had no effect and the Kreek Federation was prepared to launch an attack against the Gyaan in the Haxaman Empire in retaliation. Despair and anger was quickly consuming the Kreek peoples and all were certain that war would soon break out, a war of which they had no chance of winning at this point in time as the Haxaman Empire, and the hybrid Gyaan, were far more powerful than themselves. With almost all resources drained the Phoinike were permitted to experiment with the Kreek's most prized possession, the Kyogre Tears. Using this incredibly powerful waters the Phoinike were able to create a cure for the Archon, their leader cured almost instantly. With their leader cured tensions between the Kreek and Gyaan rapidly cooled and war was avoided. The Kreek-Phoinike relationship was cemented in stone after this, the Kreek allowing the Phoinike on their vessels, the two different Channeling civilizations traveling the world together with the Kreek seeking knowledge and the Phoinike economic opportunities.
However, not was all great at this time. Due to infighting in the Kreek Forum and civil unrest while the Archon was sick and war seemed imminent the Kreek Federation government was dangerously near collapse. When Strato, Archon of the Kreek, became well again he spoke directly to his people and pleaded not only peace with the Haxaman Empire but each other. Strato would spend an entire year traveling through not only the home islands but also their wayward colonies, doing all he could to keep the federation intact. The people admired Strato greatly for his kind nature and for calls for peace against those they blamed for him almost dying. That said while they respected Strato there was still much hostility against the Forum and the politicians who failed to keep the peace while the Archon was sick. And so in a surprise election demanded by the military Strato was elected king of the Kreek and the Kreek Federation was transformed into the Kreek Kingdom, the members of the Forum exiled to the far flung colonies. With peace and stability brought to the Kreek and Strato making the betterment of his people's lives his main goal the first king of the Kreek would go down in history as Strato the Savior. One of his most famous traits was his Wartortle channeling partner, unique in that his artifact was embedded into the turtle's shell.
The Kreek Golden Age would continue for the rest of Strato's life and somewhat beyond, however immediately upon his death and with the succession of his son would a downward trend start for the Kreek Kingdom. With the death of one of the few Kreeks the Gyaan rulers of the Haxaman Empire respected the old rivalries between the Kreek and the Gyaan began to flair up again. Haxaman incursions into Kreek waters became more common, especially as the Haxaman Empire began to solidify their complete control over the Hoenn mainland. As their Gyaanish enemies became more emboldened the Kreek slowly transformed themselves from a peaceful philosopher society to a warrior one, the military's influence seeping into almost every aspect of life as the threat of the powerful Haxaman Empire hung above their heads. Small engagements would take place over the years and the Kreek would lose several battles and a few islands to the Haxaman Empire causing many Kreek to flee to the colonies. It was only a matter of time before the Kreek became just another subject of the mighty Haxaman Empire, all of the Kreek saw this as an inevitability and not even their friends in the Phoinike could save them.
A young but powerful Water Channeler named Xandros would rise to the Kreek throne and immediately seek out to make right the failures of his father and destroy their Gyaanish enemies before they could destroy them. Xandros would harness the power of the Kyogre Tears in ways the Kreek had never seen before and with his revolutionary military tactics for the time Xandros transformed the comparatively small Kreek army into an unstoppable force. With himself leading the charge, Xandros, with some carefully planned engagements and conquests, would lead his forces right into the heart of the Haxaman Empire and claim the Alpha Throne for himself as the first Kreek ruler of the Haxaman Empire, in theory uniting the Kreek and the Gyaan for the first time in history. Xandros would henceforth be known as Xandros the Tsunami, the most powerful Water Channeler the world had ever known.
Xandros' time as King of the Kreek and Haxaman Emperor would be short, however. Xandros would rule over his massive empire for less than a decade before he too would fall victim to a mysterious illness, just like his ancestor, Strato the Savior. At this time Xandros had been spending most of his time in the capital of the Gyaan, now named Sootopolis City, leading many to believe that the Gyaan had poisoned him just as they did to Strato so long ago. Unfortunately the Phoinike doctors were unable to get to Xandros in time and he passed away in his chambers before he could declare a successor as Xandros had no children of his own.
The Kreek Kingdom and Haxaman Empire would both fall into chaos as various factions vied for power. Fighting would break out all through the empire and the fragile peace between the Kreek and the Gyaan shattered as each attempted to purge the other in their lands. While chaos reigned supreme a mysterious fog would sweep over the entirety of the Hoenn region and according to one of the few survivors in the region at the time, Psychic Grand Master Maya, once the fog let up both the Kreek and Gyaan were gone, the grand city of Alphapolis disappeared as well, their islands and cities all depopulated, their artifacts vanished. This event was dubbed the Great Fog Calamity, a mystery which to this day no one has been able to solve. It is at this point which the art of Water Channeling would virtually disappear. One member of the old Gyaan royalty would survive, however, a Vaporeon hybrid named Varuna who had by chance been on the royal Gyaanish ark far away from Hoenn at the time. It is a mystery how he can into possession of the Kyogre Tears as well as it was believed the only source was in Alphapolis at the time. It is ironic that the only living first hand source of the Kreek civilization, and the possessor of their claim to power, the Kyogre Tears, is a member of the Gyaan.
