Whipping his long tail behind him he took a long look at the surrounding area. His companion wasn’t too far away, Ra’s busy tails blowing in the gentle breeze. He wasn’t sure how the two of them had come to be so close but they were well suited for one another. He was an excellent scout and an even better friend. He counted himself lucky to be paired to him, he was fairly certain Ra felt the same way but he wasn’t going to speak for him on that front.
Adujsting his shoulder pauldron he dug his long claws into the hard earth. The fact it seemed to poof up around him was a sure sign that he wasn’t any closer to a hydrated land source. He was hoping in another days travel they’d find a suitable location to set up shop but for now the desert reaches was where they would be living.
He knew he could send the fox ahead, but he didn’t really like the idea all too much, plus he never liked to boss him around. He was his own creature so he let him come and go as he pleased.
Ra looked over towards his companion and have a small shake of his body, flexing his wings momentarily before returning them to his body. “What’s the verdict?” He asked curious to know what the larger male thought. By the look on his face he knew they were still outta luck but he wasn’t overly worried.
Heli gave a deep sigh, “Well, do you want the good news or the bad news?” Not that there was really any good news to speak about.
“Hit me with the bad.”
“Well, we likely have couple days travel ahead of us still.” His voice was light but not filled with doubt. “Good news is, it’s almost dusk and we’ll be able to travel while it’s cooler.” He didn’t mind the heat, his body was built for it, his furry friend on the other paw was not. He often let the fox stand in his shadow to cool off every couple of hours.
While their trip had been long, it wasn’t disappointing to say the least. They were very much enjoying their time spent out here and had run into a few interesting sorts along the way. A golden stallion who was trying to rekindle with his family had given them a few stories about his own adventures and a dark mare with bones had offered to read his future but he had politely declined.
The three of them had traveled a couple days together and he had gotten to know her a little bit. It had truly been interesting to hear what she had to say, though he would be lying if he hadn’t been glad to depart from her.
“That’s not so bad. I’m sure we’ll be able to cover much more ground once it’s dark.” Ra said pleased to be out of the heat and hopefully onto much greener lands. He wanted a nice hare or a juicy duck to eat instead of these blasted sand critters.
“That looks like a nice spot to rest for now.” Ra said pointing to a rather dead looking tree that offered little shade. Heli agreed and the two of them rested until night fell.
