-Book of Psychic-

The Psychic type, one of the most powerful types of them all, and one of the most widely distributed in terms of ability to utilize the type. Out of all the types Psychic is probably the most common when it comes to humans being able to harness its power, often in the form of a telekinetic abilities. Some say that humans were once Psychic types themselves, what with how almost natural, though still extremely rare, for humans to be born with some kind of telekinetic skill. Other also point to the Pokemon Oranguru, which possesses Psychic powers and is now known to share a common ancestor with humans, as evidence of this theory of humans having a natural affinity towards the type. Regardless many have attempted to master the powers of the Psychic type, and many have failed, driven mad or complete comatose. Psychic Channelers, commonly and unimaginatively called 'Psychics', are far more common than Psychic hybrids, for whatever reason, some saying this being further proof of the aforementioned theory.

-The Dark One-

The Dark One, the great calamity himself is said to have, in his original incarnation, once been a Psychic Channeler. Lore states that he was incredibly powerful for a Psychic Channeler, capable of performing feats that only certain Pokemon could, to an even greater extent than even the most well trained of their species. The foresight of a Xatu, the memory manipulation of a Beheeyem, even capable of manifesting dreams like a Musharna. It is said he could even do the impossible at this time, and that is Channel with a legendary Pokemon. What Psychic legend he Channeled with is unknown. Despite all this he did something further impossible, for whatever reason, and switched his Channeling type, become an even more powerful Dark Channeler, if it were even possible to become more powerful than he already was. It's said that his time as a Psychic Channeler is what allowed him to figure out the impossible feat that a certain Psychic Channeler named Maya would discover many years after him; how to defy death. Regardless, these are but a few examples of the Dark Ones immeasurable power, a person whose very existence was such a defiance of reality that most refuse to believe he ever existed in the first place.

-Maya's School for the Supersensitive-

Hundreds of years ago there lived a very powerful and skilled Psychic Channeler, a woman who is said to have been able to control the tides with her mind, manipulate emotions, and even foresee the future its self. Maya was globally renowned for her Psychic abilities, so much so she was seen as a sort of oracle, a divine being in human flesh. A cult of worship even briefly formed around her, much to her annoyance. Desiring not power over people and their worship Maya formed a school to train people in the ways of the Psychic and to show them that there was nothing divine about her abilities. Originally she would make her school in Lilycove City, but it would not last long here as it quickly became a place of worship for many, a temple of sorts to honor their perceived oracle.

Maya would move her place of teaching to a more remote location, to an island which is said to not even exist; one of the Mirage Islands. She decided that not only being more remote from the greater populace would put an end to such silly worship of her but also it would weed out those who were serious about being trained from her, and actually had the skill to handle her training. She would routinely send a pair of Pokemon through out the world to seek out prospective students, the Eon Twins themselves, Latios and Latias, which she had befriended (but not captured).

At her school or the mind Maya would teach many students, numerous Psychic Channelers being formed here who would leave her school far more powerful than they came, many of them spreading her teachings themselves and finding places of tutelage. For this reason it is no small wonder that today you can still find Psychic individuals through out the world, namely in the form of numerous gym leaders and Elite Four members. While she did have a few nefarious students she was pleasantly pleased with how her students turned out. Unfortunately, however, she could not live forever and upon the 'death' of her twin sister, Amaya, who managed to defy death and bind her spirit to the world, Maya set out to find a way to do similar. The Psychic Channeler knew if she could defeat death just like her sister then she too could continue to teach people to unlock their true potential and perhaps reveal the profound secret to humanity; that they were all Psychics.

Maya created a way to bind her celestial being to the physical world through special stones crafted by herself which acted as sort of anchors. The Betyl Stone she called them, pieces of carved meteorite infused with her power. Just making the stones weren't enough, she needed a living person to possesses the stone so that it may draw from their imagination and give Maya's spirit form in this world. So as long as Maya has a living student to carry one of her stones she can continue to exist in this world, the powerful Psychic Channeler using the imaginations and minds of her students to defy reality and death its self.

While the original Eon Twins she befriended have since passed away their successors continue to visit the Mirage Islands and pay homage to their ancestral friend and thus continue to assist her in finding students so that she may always have a carrier for her Betyl Stones.

-The Tanoby Clan-

The Tanoby Clan is a family of Psychic Channelers who are renowned for their unique Channeling abilities which stem from exclusively Channeling with a single Unown each, incapable of during so with any other species. Their Channeling has been described as 'alchemy', that is they possess the ability to alter matter, transforming it into a state different from its original. This unique form of Channeling draws from the power of the Unown they Channel with, tapping into the Symbol Pokemon's latent reality warping abilities. Not even the Tanoby Channelers are certain on the mysteries surrounding the Unown and their strange powers, all they have figured out is how to tap into them themselves.

Utilizing 'alchemy' is not as simple as Channeling with an Unown and not something any Psychic Channeler can do, in fact it is almost impossible for other Psychic Channelers to even establish a Channeling bond with Unown. The process of bonding and Channeling with an Unown is a difficult and precise one, as well as a closely guarded secret by the Tanoby family. It's said that they are paired with a single Unown at a very early age and grow up alongside them to establish the required bond.

The Tanoby Clan also takes their name from the Tanoby Ruins of the Sevii Islands, which family lore states to be the origins of their family, the ruins constructed by their ancestors to house the Unown they were said to revere. A pilgrimage to the Tanoby Ruins is a coming of age ritual for members of the Tanoby Clan. It is said here where the young Tanoby are christened as true Channelers. The clan's folk religion also pays special reverence towards the Spatial Pokemon, Palkia.

Another aspect of these Psychic Channelers that gives them their strange abilities is their artifacts, said to be carved from meteorites and share similarities with Key Stones and Z-Rings. The process of creating their artifacts is known only by the head of the clan and only passed onto their successor on their death bed. Such an arrangement risks the extinction of their abilities, such as in the case that the clan elder dies unexpectedly and yet despite an alleged thousand year lineage this has never happened, the Tanoby claiming the Unown protect and ensure the succession.

One known trait of the Tanoby Channelers is that they are known to carry in their artifacts an assortment of Elemental Gems which they charge with energy and use in an emergency to transmute matter, usually only in dire situations in which they require protection. The reasoning behind this is because it takes a long time charging the gems for use. They can use the gems in ways such as turning earth into water, though creating even the smallest of puddles is something only a very talented Channeler can do.

The ultimate goal of the Tanoby Clan is to forge a Philosopher's Stone, which they believe will allow them to unlock their true powers and transcend this dimension and into the Unown's Dimension, thus discovering the secrets of life and reality its self. None have come close to actually creating one. The heir apparent to the position of clan elder, Selagin, however claims he is making progress. Few believe this as many of a successor has made these claims to bolster their image as future elder. To this end, and their desire further their abilities most Tanoby Channelers leave home to explore the world, many thus selling their services to make a living in their quest for knowledge.

All members of the Tanoby Clan are named after plants, this theme directly in line with the names given to the various Tanoby Chambers. Ambrosia, a Tanoby Channeler familiar to Team Snagem, seems to be an exception, however 'Ambrosia' is not her real name. Many of the mercantile Tanoby Channelers take on a different alias, a tradition with no real reasoning. Ambrosia's real name is Peony.

-The Enlightened Sage-

Long ago, far too distant in history to put an exact date on, there lived a powerful Psychic Channeler now simply known as 'The Sage'. Legend states that he had unlocked the secrets of the mind, that peering into the future was little more than a hindrance of effort to him. Amaya claims that The Sage was far more powerful than herself, that if he wanted to he could almost certainly have escaped death as she did, but for whatever reason, did not. Regardless The Sage did not use his powers to harm, and instead utilized them to uncover the world's secrets and empower others. He lived at a time when dogma divided things into good and evil and yet he taught that there was a more preferred middle ground between vice and virtue, so long as you didn't harm. While the more devote claimed indulgence was always evil and that abstinence was holy he preached for the middle, that life was to live and to swing towards anyone one extreme deprived you of truly living.

The Sage would amass a large following of humans and hybrids who wanted to learn from him and the ways he taught. For most of his life he would teach, and study as well, claiming that he and everyone else should forever be students. In his middle years he abandoned his students and retreated into the wilds, some claiming that he discovered a profound truth and needed to reflect on it in solitude. For almost two months he meditated under a single tree in the wilds and here he achieved true Enlightenment, a profound understanding of life and one's own self, how to want for nothing, to truly be at peace. It's claimed he was the only person to truly reach this state, not even Amaya dares claim she has done the same.

He would continue to teach for the rest of his life and allegedly before his passing wrote the chronicles of his meditation and journey to Enlightenment on stone tablets which were locked away in a golden chest. Upon his passing his followers would hide away his corpse, as instructed by The Sage so that it may not be idolized. However they wouldn't fully honor his wishes as a temple was erected around the tree of which he achieved Enlightenment and the chest which contained his final teachings placed under it. All who have dared to open the Ark of the Sage to read his final teachings were driven mad by the truths they discovered, their minds shattered. As such no one is sure what the tablets say and why they have such an effect on people, or if perhaps The Sage even intended such a thing to happen.

Due to his place in the history of Psychic Channeling Amaya often has her students take a pilgrimage to the location of his Enlightenment to pay proper tribute to the principle figure of her school of thought.

It is said by some that The Sage befriended a Celebi and the source of his Enlightenment was traveling to different times to learn, and to see what exists at the end. Amaya however claims this is just rumor and hyperbole, that there is no reliable documentation that The Sage ever came in contact with Time Travel Pokemon.

-The Disappearance-

According to Kreek historical records an event took place they called 'The Disappearance', just a few decades before the greater, and more devastating, Great Fog Calamity which wiped them up along with their rivals, the Gyaan. The Disappearance is said to have been a bizarre event where Water type hybrids with Psychic abilities, whether or not they were dual typed in both, suddenly disappeared without a trace. The great majority of these disappearances happened within the Kreek Empire and since it only happened to hybrids that meant they were all Gyaan that lived under Kreek rule after the fall of the Gyaanish Haxaman Empire.

Because of these facts the remaining Gyaanish hybrids blamed their Kreek rulers for the disappearances, claiming it to have been an intentional purge. The Kreek insistently denied this but it would do no good and large scale uprisings by the Gyaan would take place through out the empire, all the way until the Great Fog Calamity which would wipe them all out.

It's curious that The Disappearance only targeted those hybrids with Psychic abilities, and thus why it is noted here in Book of Psychic. Amaya is unsure as anyone else as to what took place but she insists that it was not the Kreek who did anything, that the signs point to some sort of spectral force, whatever it may have been.
