Empathy: Jinthel's main ability is a supernatural form of empathy, which allows her to fully interpret and replicate the emotions, moons, and temperaments of others. This allows her to tell another person's emotions without reading the apparent symptoms, or to find that one emotion is hiding another. Seeing beneath the 'surface' to what lies underneath. Because she knows what emotion a person is feeling at any given moment, she could use this knowledge against a person.. If she so wished.
~ She cannot 'turn off' sensing other people's emotions.
~ She is basically forced to empathize with everything. The 'good'.. And the 'bad'.
~ She can be overwhelmed by large amounts of emotions at once.
~ Touching someone (actual skin contact) is a stronger connection than simply being near them.
~ Extremely strong emotions, or simply an overwhelmingly large amount of varied ones, can effect her behavior in various ways.
~ She cannot do anything against a being that doesn't have emotions, or someone who is completely apathetic.
~ Spirits and ghosts that are capable of possession would find it more easy to possess her than someone else because they are beings bound by emotions.
Emotion Manipulation: Pretty much what it sounds like. This is the ability to manipulate the emotions of herself and others, whether by increasing, decreasing, causing or otherwise channeling emotions. She can even outright forcibly change what someone else is feeling.
Some people, such as those who have some form of psychic shield or psychic immunity would be highly resistant or completely immune to this ability.
~ Some applications can cause an emotional backlash if she isn't careful.
~ She has not received any training, so keeping her emotions in check can prove.. Difficult, to say the least.
~ Sharing her emotions with another requires physical contact.
~ She can only manipulate the emotions of three people at a time.. Five if she really strains herself
~ If a target is strong willed or feeling one emotion extremely strongly, that will make their emotions much harder to manipulate.
Empathic Constructs: Perhaps the most interesting of Jinthel's abilities is the one which allows her to create various constructs out of pure emotional energy.
~ Every emotion has its own advantages and disadvantages
~ At the moment, she doesn't have the best control.. She can only form constructs from emotions she is feeling at that time.
~ The strength of these constructs depends both on her will and the continuation of the emotion that fuels it. A break in concentration or an emotional change can destabilize the construct in question.
~ When another being touches one of these constructs, they will feel the emotion it is formed from.. Except for emotionless beings, which are immune.
Neko Physiology: Since she is a neko, it should come as no surprise that she well.. Has the physiology of a neko. This means obvious things, such as the ears and tail, as well as less obvious things, such as minorly enhanced physical capabilities and enhanced senses.
~ The physical stuff is all great, but she's still not really fit.
~ Enhanced senses can be a bad thing.. Especially in situations where they are likely to be overloaded.

Personality: Jinthel is a very shy and timid kind of person. She is definitely not a person who enjoys socializing, instead keeping to herself and to her precious few friends. It is highly likely that her life has left her pretty distrustful towards most other people and her introverted behavior is a wall to keep away strangers. And yet, she is not really an unfriendly person by any means. Nervous and kind of high strung, yes, but not unfriendly. She has a kind heart and a gentle soul, being willing to do what she can to help another person even if she would have to go out of her way to do so. She tends to be a more agreeable person than not, often going along with what others want even if she doesn't really want to herself. Just about the only times she shows any stubbornness is when she is trying to help someone else...

Backstory: Jinthel's life has not been one that most people would consider particularly "good" by any stretch of the word. She was born into a frankly awful household. Her mother might have been a good woman, but her father was heavily abusive towards both of them. It was never all the time. He would get drunk and get angry over some inane thing which would end with either her mother or herself being beaten by him. Her mother took the brunt of it. Her earliest memories were of lying awake at night, listening to her parents fighting. Mostly her father screaming at her mother. Sometimes her mother's cries as well. There were many times when the police would be called, but there wasn't much they could do without at least some cooperation. It wasn't a very good environment to be in. To this day, she still doesn't know why, but her mother never left her father.
It all came to a head when she was ten years old. She doesn't remember what set her father off that time, but it was bad. The screaming disturbed the neighbors enough that they called the police again. This time, they arrived to a horrible scene. Jinthel's mother was dead. It looked like she had been beaten to death with a hammer. As for Jinthel, it was an awful sight. The child had been badly injured, but she was alive. She was rushed to the hospital to receive treatment for her injuries. She was unconscious for several days, but ultimately, it was determined that she would recover. When she woke up, she wasn't exactly told what was going on. There were questions, from which doctors gathered that she had become mute. What she did gather was that she would be sent to a temporary place to live. The people there were nicer than she expected. She was so jumpy and kept panicking over such little things that she had to be difficult to deal with. But they tried. Unfortunately, she wouldn't be staying with them for more than a few months.
With no known living relatives to send her to, she was left in government care.. The foster system, where she quickly learned just how little people care when there's a question of money involved. Her caseworker was alright, but had far too many cases for just one person. It was a toss up where she would end up, but it turned out to be mostly bad. It was such an unstable environment.. She went from one foster family to another, sometimes with other kids, and never really stayed for long enough to settle. Sometimes these families were nice, but there were a lot who had strict rules for kids in their care, could be abusive, or just plain neglectful. Perhaps the worst were group homes. Jinthel was entirely non-communicative and practically scared of her own shadow. This made her a prime target for bullying and mistreatment at the hands of other children. None of this helped an already traumatized child. It arguably worsened things considerably.
During her tenth year of life, she was sent to a group home where the usual stuff continued.. But something good happened, after a fashion. One day, she was cornered by a group of bullies who were beating her up. There weren't any adults around and it seemed like no one would help her.. Again. But in the midst of all this, a miracle occurred. Another girl who had been watching suddenly tackled one of the boys. No one had ever done that before.. It was both a relief and horrifying as those boys turned their attention to that girl. Jinthel could only watch as they beat her into a bloody pulp. It was bad enough that she was afraid that they might have killed that girl. Like an idiot, she hadn't tried to run while they were distracted, so naturally.. Their attention was returning to their initial victim. But.. Another miracle happened.
That girl started shouting at herself and struggled to her feet, only to put herself between Jinthel and those bullies. Jinthel was sure that this was going to end up horribly for both of them, especially since that girl was already so badly hurt.. What happened next, no one could have predicted. That strange girl teleported to one of the boys and slammed his head through a table. This was enough to send them all running away, screaming at the top of their lungs. This commotion finally drew the attention of the adults on duty in this group home. This was both a good thing and a bad thing.. Good because Jinthel couldn't have done much to help that strange girl, but bad because the boys were the ones who immediate began setting the story. Their story was that they had just been attacked by that crazy girl and she nearly killed them for no reason. Fortunately, there was plenty of evidence to the contrary.. Much of it was the beating that had been given to that strange wolf girl. She had to be hospitalized for a little while herself due to her injuries. When she returned to that group house, Jinthel was still there, so the wolf girl was able to easily find her.. And introductions could be made, of a sort.
This was how she met the person who would become her best, and only, friend, Tikhaya Urozhaya. From that point on, they were practically inseparable. Tikhaya was.. Very different from her. Although she was another quiet person, Jinthel quickly learned that this girl had no intentions of letting either of them be pushed around by anyone, not even the adults.. Although she seemed far more motivated if it was protecting Jinthel. She wasn't really sure what made Tik latch on to her like this, but she quickly grew very attached to her as well. While Tik ensured they stayed together and weren't harmed, which often involved making some very pointed threats, Jinthel took to trying to look after the other girl. She got hurt with disturbing frequency for various reason.
Four years passed with them sticking together like this until, one day, they received a pair of odd invitations. They were to a boarding school off in England. Tik was.. Initially more enthusiastic about this prospect than Jinthy was. It took her a bit more convincing.. The idea of going somewhere so far away was quite scary. In the end, they both would go to attend this school, only to learn that it was far more than it appeared. This wasn't a safe place to be. It wasn't just the stories about it, but it quickly became apparent that this school was some kind of focal point for all manner of terrible happenings.. And an attraction to many dangers. So students had to contend with staying safe and still keeping up with their studies! As if one wasn't difficult enough without the other.
Jinthel did not take to the school nearly as well as Tikhaya did, but she decided to try to be brave since her friend seemed to thrive in this place.. She would just hide in her dorm at night and do her best with her studies. It was during one of her classes that she would meet someone who would become a new friend. This was a blind boy named Oswald. The way they met was actually rather humorous and possibly a bit cruel on the part of their teacher. For some reason, that woman thought it would be cute to have Jinthel assist Oswald in class.. Having a mute girl helping a blind boy was not exactly the most efficient way of doing things. The communication barrier, for example, was an issue. She could write well enough to be able to transcribe what he wanted written, but he couldn't read what she wrote if she needed to tell him something. Luckily, the internet provided the way.. With horrible quality text-to-voice technology! Yea, it wasn't always fun.
Anyway, this in class partnership eventually developed into more of a friendship as the two of them began to hang out even outside of class. It was nice to make another friend.. Although Tik treated him with a good deal of wariness. He never tried to hurt either of them.. So he was tolerated by her. Other than the craziness of monster attacks and various unexplained happenings, the year passed by.. Pretty well. The mortality rate for students and teachers that year was very concerning though... The summer passed by with no really unusual events, leading in to the beginning of a near year, which would once again feature Videl as its backdrop. Jinthel can only hope that this year will be calmer than the last, but that isn't looking too promising so far...
