Koamalu eventually decided the mud had satisfied his cravings of an itch-free adventure enough to resume the hunt. Grunting he pulled himself atop dry soil before swiveling his head to survey the area. Tahiti had found three feathers making their hunt seem somewhat successful in the small male reptile's eyes. Leaning over he inspected a rock nudging it over a bit noticing tiny bugs scurrying about. Hissing he backed away then kept a vigil of the area. Several birds had taken flight with no positive find of feathers needed for the Forgemaster.

Tahiti noted her companion was not sulking after she had scolded him. In truth, the flightless mare did feel a little ashamed for how she treated him but, honestly it was in his best interest leaving his loud nature buried so the birds wouldn't spook. Three feathers meant there were more if even one or three. They were not coming back empty handed which was a complete relief on the entire search party. Still, she completely felt for her mate who was pretty much feeling in a beat up sediment that he was useless in this quest. Even his mate seemed at a loss other than the fascinating water hole that she could soak in, becoming less irritated. Raising her head her eyes set sight on the sun which slowly was creeping behind a bunch of clouds. It's nearly mid-day Nahele. I don't think we should be up here too late".

Turning his head towards the skies, it seemed that the day was starting to fade. The afternoon was stretching and the shadows were getting longer. Heaving a sigh, Nahele was just about ti turn away from the trees when something caught his attention just off the path. Something flicked from one of the branches as a breeze passed. Stepping off the path he went to investigate. When he drew closer to what distracted him from where he was headed. When he was at the branch, Nahele's eyes widened. Stuck to the branch, wedged under the bark some were two feathers. Long ones at that, probably primary flight feathers of some sort of bird.

Pulling the feathers from their spot, Nahele backed out of where he had gone and turned back towards his mate. the feathers went to the bag with the other three. "Progress." Was all that was said as Melika waddled out from the brush to shake the leaves from her back. Seems the Gator came up featherless.

Tahiti nearly jumped for joy hearing her mate announce he had located two feathers instead of her normal singles. Five altogether with a possibility of more she mused with a strong positive vibe seeking out more feathers. Seeing they were getting double coins for each feather made things definitely more of an accomplishment bringing in 10 coins instead of five. There were other bonuses but the feathers were her biggest incentive. Pondering for a moment about the "Hunting Mushrooms" quest she remembered some of the questers complaining how difficult that particular gathering test really was. She wasn't one for making salves or sticking her head in dark caves either. So, when Nahele mentioned the feathers it seemed rather simple. More so than those other ones where questors were sent off to fight walkers or a tiny vicious beast of a feral rabbit. No, feathers were right up her alley since she truly wasn't born with them herself. Imagine the fact of a flightless parrot seeking feathers, It was amusing, to say the least.

Still, in all of her contemplation not one feather past their five had made itself known. Perhaps their quest as coming to an end as the sun was setting downward leaving the chill of dusk creeping upon their heels err hooves.

Koamalu himself hadn't had any luck either as his strong legs and claws followed Tahiti seeking more feathers for their sack. His eyes turned upward noting the usual energetic mare was settled in deep contemplation leaving her to walk sluggishly almost within slow motion. It was perplexing seeing her like this compared to the usual "take a dare... pay for it later" attitude. Well, there really wasn't ever regret when she enjoyed the motions feeling accomplished. It almost amused him how boisterous that scarlet macaw could make herself jumping over one of those extremely thick logs or rock formation. Tahiti was certainly one of a kind which made Koamalu attach himself to her when they first met. He honestly loved her being so reckless as he was. It made them both feel connected and paired with one another.

Tahiti groaned since her success streak only seemed to stop around three whilst Nahele stopped around two. Now with the night sneaking up closer, she decided to give Nahele one last chance to find remaining feathers within the forests before the daylight crept away leaving them in a blanket of incoming darkness. Pawing the ground her ears swiveled one last time trying to capture if anything one more sound of feathers flapping as they sent downward a single solitary feather. Alas, though this wasn't the moment that Tahiti's heart was sitting upon. More like a squirrel shaking branches in an annoying gesture to make a mockery of their current tactics. Pulling her ears pack slowly, Tahiti rolled her eyes the opened her muzzle loudly. What escaped thereafter was the most annoying screech combined with a squawk of a deranged parrot. This sound echoed down through the treeline till it shook the branches the squirrel was using as an annoyance. Chittering madly it leaped for the nearest hanging branch escaping for its life.

"Ah haha ha" she called out to its retreat with the largest smile on her face, "Serves you right for tricking us pretty much all day. See how you like it!"

Koamalu was doing his own part to search for feathers minding his own business till that sound made him suddenly trip in his steps. Tahiti sounded annoyed he assured himself of that. That sound it just made him shudder as it still echoed throughout the trees endlessly. Turning around he made his way through the grass and stopped looking up at her, "That was a bit much Tahiti" he groaned then smiled, "but that squirrel. You scared living daylights out of it hee hee".

Honestly, he wondered when she would have slipped back into her old self again. The squirrel seemed to be the trigger he was pondering about through this entire quest. Tahiti being quiet just wasn't plausible before she'd become a parrot again.

With the night on their heels, Nahele looked at his mate as she called to something in the trees. Shaking his head he nosed at her lightly. "Come on, lets go turn those in. It's getting late and I don't want to be traveling in the dark." Not that he really minded walking through the trees in the dark, just that it was getting colder and he didn't care much for the cold. A shiver coursed through his spine as he headed back towards the faire grounds and the Forge Master's tent. With only five feathers, it was something at the very least. They were going to get something out of this day's venture.

Melika also shivered at the thought of the cold, it was worse then dry skin. She hated the cold and always tried to stay as close to the teepee fires as possible, even if she sometimes scared people. But it was the one way she kept from freezing to death or rather going into hibernation. "Yes lets, or find a roaring fire to stay at. Or you'll be having to carry me home." She half warned, half threatened. This only got an eye roll from Nahele as she suspected he would just leave her somewhere to sleep the winter away..

Tahiti sniffed the damp air shaking her head in disgust, "I'll take the warmth of the tropics over this any day. Yawning she stretched looking sideways at Koamalu, "Yes... Yes, I did lol". She then grabbed the sack in her teeth and swayed her rump playfully as she trotted past Nahele, "Always aim to please". Chuckling she looked downward at the Gators, "Come on you don't want to become gator icicles, do you?" Laughing she began trotting again feeling her old self-return once more. That squirrel certainly learned a lesson she hoped. Five feathers indeed with a nice doubling bonus was something the flightless mare was quite proud of to say the least. Moving toward the counter she placed the sack gently in front of the Forgemaster, "We've managed five, sir. Birds seem to be roosting elsewhere this year but were did get some luck.

A pleased expression from the older stallion rewarded them a small metal rattle of coins within a tiny pouch. Nodding in respect the silly mare picked up the coins then exited the tent.

Koamalu regarded his mate's own attitude with a grumpy expression, "same goes for me. I need something warm before I freeze right out of my scoots". He chuckled briefly about his joke then followed Tahiti with a big yawn, "Hey Tahiti! Don't forget your promise!"

Tahiti stopped for a moment and looked sheepish, "Promise?"

Koamalu grunted, "Turkey leg for two".

Tahiti laughed, "I know you silly reptile. Its where I'm heading actually".

Koamalu rolled his eyes, "Good. I just had to check". Swaying his own tail he followed in tail savoring that juicy aroma that called to him across the faire.
